“The one that absorbed my attention the most fully was Tiffany Rea-Fisher’s piece, Identity. There was mysteriousness to the movement as well -- the long pauses or the writing on the floor to mention just two -- that drew me into it. I thought it excavated the theme of the tension between the group and the individual, how one influences and shapes the other, the pressure of conformism in a particularly resonant way, one that allowed me to take it in emotionally. It made me eager to see more of Ms Rea-Fisher’s work.” - Harry Newman, Bessie Judge

ZYDECO, ZARE Choreography by: Tiffany Rea-Fisher Musical Director: Jonno Frishberg Performed and Arranged by: Jeffrey Broussard & The Creole Cowboys Costumes by: Karen Young Lighting and Scenic Elements by: Clifton Taylor Dancers: Tiffany Rea-Fisher, Joe Celej Premiere: 2008 at the Heymann Performing Arts Center Commissioned by: The Performing Arts Society of Acadiana and The Joyce Theater Made in honor of Matthew Fisher’s (Tiffany Rea-Fisher’s husband) last year with Elisa Monte Dance, this duet explores the trials and tribulations of relationships, and how to come out stronger in the end. This piece is part of the larger suite from Elisa Monte Dance, which features music by a six-piece Zydeco band and was inspired by the style of folk music originating from African American and Creole descendants of slaves in Southern Louisiana in the late 1800s. This innovative duet incorporates the syncopated sound and movements that are found in Zydeco. “The best part, however, is the central pairing for a fussy man and woman. They grapple, push and pull. Their collisions are aggressive, but not disturbing. It’s a healthy battle between the sexes that ends in a truce.” - Wendy Liberatore, Daily Gazette Artwork by Vergie Banks

Dance Enthusiast sits down and talks to Tiffany Rea-Fisher about how she became a dancer for Elisa Monte Dance. Watch it here.
ON THE RISE 2007 “Her riveting onstage personality emphasizes the fluidity, precision, and vitality of the choreography. Movements seem to roll through her body. She can pull off cyclone spins and leaps that hang in the air without a grimace. ‘She doesn’t seem to touch the floor. She’s so lifted,’ says Monte.” - Emily Macel, Dance Magazine Read the rest of the article here. Photo by Roy Volkmann
