are incorporated into the Church.” (Canon 849 of the Code of Canon Law). People can be baptized as adults or infants. The preparation for adult baptism takes place in the process of the catechumenate, commonly known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA. Any adult desiring baptism may call the office to begin this process. Preparation for infant baptism happens in baptism classes, generally held on the fourth Thursday evening of each month in the Parish Office. No child will be baptized at St. Catherine unless both parents have attended one of these classes in the last five years. Baptism of adults generally takes place on Holy Saturday night, while baptism of infants can take place on any Sunday. Since baptism “incorporates one into the Church,” it is appropriate that the infant be baptized during a Sunday liturgy when the local Church is gathered. There are legitimate reasons for not wanting to have the baptism during a Sunday liturgy; in those cases, baptisms may be scheduled for a Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

PARISH RAFFLE

It’s almost time for our 4th annual Parish Weekly Raffle to begin. Each registered Parish family, as well as each school and CCD family who are not registered as parishioners, have been mailed two raffle tickets. Each family is asked to purchase or sell the tickets at a cost of $50.00 each. Simply fill out the name, address and phone number portion of the ticket and return it, along with a check made out to St. Catherine of Siena. Tickets can be mailed, put in the collection basket at Mass, dropped off or placed in the mail slot next to the Parish Office door. Tickets may also be purchased in the Parish Office. Weekly drawings will begin November 1st and run through October 31, 2017. Any tickets purchased after November 1st will be entered for the remaining weeks. Each week, there will be one winner drawn for a prize of $100.00. A check will be mailed directly to the winner, and their winning ticket GOES BACK IN the drawing so each ticket is eligible to win each week! So, for less than $1.00/week, you could win $100.00 every week! We’ve had several people win more than once. If you haven’t received your tickets yet, contact the Parish Office.

OCTOBER 9, 2016

PARISH RAFFLE WINNER

The winners for the week of October 3rd were Nicole and Shawn Green. Congratulations!

CHILI COOK-OFF AND BENGALS GAME

The first event sponsored by the new St. Catherine Fund-raising Committee will be a chili cook-off next Sunday, October 16th. Come and watch the Bengals game and enjoy some chili, friends and fun. See the insert in today’s bulletin for details.

40 DAYS FOR LIFE

The Fall Campaign started September 28th and runs through November 6th, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., daily. Believers throughout our area are joining together for prayer, fasting and peaceful vigil in front of Planned Parenthood on Auburn Ave. in repentance for the destruction of innocent lives right here in our midst. Our Pro Life Committee plans to provide prayer coverage on Tuesday, October 18th. If you can help out by praying in front of Planned Parenthood for one hour, see the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in back of church. We would like to have two people each hour. For questions or more information, contact Linda Schuchter at 441-1220 or [email protected].

“THE MANY FACES OF PRO-LIFE” DIOCESAN NEWSPAPER AD.

Bishop Roger Foys has requested that the Pro-Life Committee collect signatures for the Row vs. Wade newspaper ad during the month of October. The ad will be published in January around the anniversary of the Supreme Court Decision that legalized abortion. The hope is to draw attention to the deliberate and massive attack on the most vulnerable members of society, the unborn, that requires courage and willingness of persons and institutions to speak out. We will be collecting signatures after all Masses on October 15-16 and October 22-23. There is a suggested donation of $2.00 per name or $10.00 per family to help cover the cost of the ad.

ST. BERNARD PANTRY

The suggested items being collected for the pantry in October are pasta and sauce. Please note that this is just a suggestion. The pantry is always in need of any nonperishable food items, paper products and hygiene items for their clients. We will gratefully accept any donation. All donations can be dropped off in the back of church or the Parish Office.
