Introduction By following the instructions in this document, the Sybase 15.5 PC Client should install successfully without having to un-install previous versions (e.g. 11.1, 12.5, 15.0) of the client. Important Note: These instructions were written and tested for the Microsoft XP operating system. The instructions may work with other operating systems, but have not been validated by the project team.

2.

Required Steps

2.1

Establish System Restore Point Before performing the 15.5 client installation, it is recommended to establish a System Restore Point, in the event that problems are encountered during the installation. This is a very important step and should be completed before performing any of the subsequent activities described in this document. To create a System Restore Point, navigate to the menu option as shown in Figure 1 below.

Figure 1

Figure 2 Select “Create a restore point” as shown in Figure 2 above, then click “Next”.

Figure 3 Enter a descriptive name for your restore point (e.g. “Before 15.5 Install”) as shown in Figure 3 above, then click “Create”.

5

Figure 4 The creation process should only take a few seconds. When it is finished, a screen similar to Figure 4 should appear. Click “Close”.

2.2 2.2.1

Install the Sybase 15.5 Client Locate 15.5 Install Files Go to https://apps.state.or.us/tech/htdocs/sybase.html. At the top of the page you will see a link for “Sybase Client 15.5 ESD#1 Windows 32 bit”. Click this link. Make sure you are clicking the link for the 32 bit client as opposed to the 64 bit client. A screen should appear as shown in Figure 5. It should indicate an approximate 487 Mb zip file.

Figure 5 Click the “Save” button, and save the zip file to c:\temp.

2.2.2

Extract the Files Extract the .zip file into the c:\temp directory. Do not extract into c:\sybase.

2.3

Run the “Standard.reg” File The purpose for running this file is to overwrite any existing standard ODBC connections with newly-created connections which use the 15.5 driver, and to create any additional standard ODBC connections, as defined by the Sybase 15 Upgrade Project Team. DHS technical support personnel should obtain a copy of the standard.reg file from the DHS Tech Info web site. External partners should call the DHS Service Desk and request a copy of this file. After obtaining a copy of this file, run it on the local workstation by double-clicking on the file. A screen should appear as shown in Figure 15.

Figure 15 Click “Yes”. When the execution completes, you will be presented with a window as shown in Figure 16 on the following page.

11

Figure 16 Click “OK”.

2.4

Run Copylibs.bat The purpose of the copylibs.bat file is to create a set of 15.5 client files that retain the Sybase 11.1 client naming convention. This avoids having to modify applications which have hardcoded references to these files.

Figure 17 Refer to Figure 17. At a DOS prompt, enter the following path, file, and parameter information: c:\sybase\ocs-15_0\scripts\copylibs create Press “Enter” to execute the script.

12

Figure 18 If the Sybase 11.1 or 12.5 client was previously installed, 7 files will be copied as shown in Figure 18 above. If the Sybase 15.0 client was installed, 5 files will be copied.

2.5

Replace the SQL.ini File If this is the first time the Sybase client has been installed on the machine, you will need to obtain a copy of the DHS standard sql.ini file. This file contains important connection information, and must be used instead of the generic sql.ini file created during installation. If you are an external partner, contact the DHS Service Desk for a copy of this file.

2.6

Cleanup of C:\Temp Delete the contents of the c:\temp directory, and then delete the directory.

3.

Non-Standard ODBC Connections Custom or user-specific ODBC connections will need to be modified to use the 15.5 client driver. Open the ODBC Data Source Administrator window, by opening Control Panel, then clicking on “Administrative Tools”, then “Data Sources (ODBC)”. The window should appear as shown in Figure 19 below.

13

Figure 19 a) For each custom ODBC connection that is using the Sybase System 11 driver, click “Configure” and note the Data Source Name and Database Name. Click “Cancel” to return to the main ODBC Data Source Administrator window. b) From the main window, select “Add”. Select the “Adaptive Server Enterprise” driver as identified in Figure 20 below.

Figure 20 c) Click “Finish”. You will be presented with the Adaptive Server Enterprise window as shown in Figure 21.

14

Figure 21 d) In this window, enter the Data Source Name and Database Name for the first set of System Data Source information collected in Step (a). e) Search for then open the sql.ini file. Scroll to the section containing information for the Data Source Name being entered above. f) Locate the Server Port number (e.g. “7000”), and enter it in the screen above. g) Locate the Server Name (e.g. “facis-prod.hr.state.or.us”) and enter it in the screen above. h) Test the connection. Upon successful testing of the connection, click “Ok” to return to the main ODBC Data Source Administrator screen. i)

Repeat steps (a) through (h) for each custom System Data Source Name that needs to be updated to use the Sybase 15.5 driver.
