At Lumenis, we constantly look for opportunities to expand the medical applications of laser technology. As clinical capabilities within ophthalmology increase, so do your options in selecting a laser. With over thirty years of medical laser experience, there is an unparalleled history—and history in the making—at Lumenis Indeed, Lumenis’ focus on ophthalmology stretches from pioneering the argon photocoagulator in the early ‘70s to partnering today in the exciting possibilities with photodynamic therapy. Whatever the specific technology, a relationship with Lumenis is more than a one-time purchase — it’s a promise that you’ll be in good company, with someone to count on, for years to come.

safety

A failing laser fiber can make it difficult to determine the amount of energy that reaches your patient which may compromise the quality of the treatment. The Opal Photoactivator offers the advanced new SmartLink™ with Power√™ output monitor and damaged laser fiber sensor. This innovative feature offers the unique ability to measure the laser power at the LaserLink™, after it travels through the optical fiber, minimizing the potential for inadequate drug activation due to low fiber transmission.

for the treatment of AMD* — nothing c trouble-free

P O R T A B I L I T Y When you work at different treatment sites, you need a laser that is easy to transport, install and link to a variety of slit lamps — without the need for a service engineer or recalibration. Only the Opal Photoactivator provides a user-installable clip-on, clip-off link to a variety of slit lamps. You can easily transfer the laser from one site to another without requiring a service engineer or recalibration. Just put the Opal Photoactivator in its carrying case, take it where you want to go, and set it up yourself.

consistency

Inconsistent energy across the diameter of the spot could produce “hot spots,” frequently around the fiber edges, which may result in uneven drug activation. Lumenis engineers found that fiber optic systems deliver inconsistent energy across the diameter of the treatment area, creating “hot spots.” The unique beam homogenizer on the Opal

Inconsistent energy creates “hot spots”

Photoactivator delivers uniform energy across the treatment zone to prevent “hot spots” and to protect against uneven drug activation.

An easy-to-use interface can save time and reduce errors due to manual calibration and adjustment. Concentrate on the treatment, not the instrumentation. The Opal Photoactivator offers: • Touch-screen user interface for safe, error-free operation— even in the dark. • Automatic contact lens list adjusts laser energy for the magnification of the contact lens chosen. Look-up tables and manual entry errors are eliminated. • Adjustable beam makes it easy to see through the slit lamp to the treatment spot over the lesion zone. • Direct spot size entry permits adjustment while observing the beam on the retina through the slit lamp.

Adverse effects of the Opal Photoactivator laser system could be related to inappropriate laser powers or improper use. Such situations should not occur if the conditions and instructions for use, as described in the laser system User Manuals and Visudyne Package Insert, are followed. Use of incompatible lasers that do not provide the required characteristics of light for the photoactivation of Visudyne could result in incomplete treatment due to partial photoactivation of Visudyne, overtreatment due to overactivation of Visudyne, damage to surrounding normal tissue, and/or damage to the delivery system which could additionally create an optical hazard for medical personnel and/or patients.
