General Computer Information

No-Show/Drop

You are expected to be familiar with computers and the Internet. We strongly recommend high speed Internet access. If you are unable to access high speed Internet, you may use a modem or other device capable of connecting to the Internet at a speed of at least 56 kbps. Note: some courses with audio, video or graphical components may not load properly if you are using a dialup Internet connection.

To better serve our students, Chemeketa Community College has a No-Show Drop policy based on class attendance during the 1st week of the term.

If you do not have high speed Internet at home we recommend accessing public computers at public libraries, WorkSource Oregon centers or Internet cafes. These locations commonly provide public access to high speed Internet. If you live in a remote location that prohibits you from accessing high speed Internet, please contact your instructor for available options. A technical orientation and information regarding minimum requirements for your computer, browser, and software needs is available at http://online.chemeketa.edu/orientations.htm. You are responsible for your own software and equipment maintenance and setup. Students may need to come to the Salem Campus for testing. If that is not possible, due to a student’s location, Chemeketa may identify an approved test proctor in their community. Some classes have required labs on campus. Confirm which online courses have labs/recitations on campus versus labs done at home or 100% online. Register for the lecture portion of your preferred lab/recitation. (There is a limited enrollment in all classes.) For general questions send email to [email protected] or call (503) 399-7873. Technical Support is available 24/7 by calling (503) 399-7399. You can also use e-mail support M-F, 8-5 Pacific Time.

What does Chemeketa’s No-Show Drop policy mean for online students? • You must participate in your online classes by Wednesday of the 1st week of the term, or the college may drop you from the class. • Online and face-to-face classes begin on the same day.

What if you cannot participate in your online class by Wednesday of the 1st week? If you cannot participate in your online class before this time, you must contact your instructor. If you do not contact your instructor, you may be dropped. How will you know if you have been dropped? If the college drops you, you will be notified through regular mail. Note: Being dropped from a class may affect your eligibility for tuition assistance if you are a veteran, if you receive financial aid, or if you are sponsored by an agency.

Tuition & Fees U.S. citizens: $81 total per credit ($72 per credit plus $9 per credit Universal Fee). International Students: $243 total per credit ($235 per credit plus $8 per credit Universal Fee, plus a nonrefundable fee of $265 per term for students attending on an F1 visa, or $75 non-refundable fee for concurrent F1 international students.) Students attending on other visa types are charged a non-refundable fee of $75 per term. *International Students currently in the U.S. and taking only online classes do not pay the non-refundable International Student Service fee. Costs for credit classes are calculated on a per-credit basis. Tuition varies depending on your permanent residence. All Online and Distance Education classes have additional fees. Some sections may have additional course fees. Some classes have fees for materials or lab use. All fees for a class will appear totaled together in the ‘Tui + Fee’ column of the schedule. Tuition and fees are due when you register. If payment is not received within 10 business days of registration, you will be assessed a $25 late fee.

If you decide to drop a class, you may do so by using the web, visiting the Enrollment Center, Building 2, Salem campus, or your nearest Chemeketa Outreach Campus during regular business hours. If you drop a class that meets for the entire term (full term class) within the first two weeks of the term, you will receive a refund of tuition and fees as long as you have no outstanding debts. Less than full term classes have a shorter refund period. You will not receive a refund or credit toward another class for any classes dropped after the end of the refund period. Refunds for classes paid by Visa or MasterCard will be credited back to the credit card. Refunds are not issued for amounts under $5 unless requested. Changes in the number of hours for which you are registered may affect your financial aid, agency, or veteran’s benefits.

All online and distance education classes require textbooks and some may require additional materials as well. All books and materials are available from the Chemeketa Bookstore on the Salem campus. Students may order by telephone using a credit card. You may also order books online at http://bookstore.chemeketa.edu. For information or to order by phone call (503) 399-5131.

About online and distance education classes

Online and distance education classes follow the same term schedule as classes on campus. You will have due dates for assignments and testing. All online and distance education classes require as much time as attending class and completing assignments for on-campus classes, as well as extensive reading assignments, writing and testing. Online and distance education students should be selfdisciplined, highly motivated, independent, and willing to take on new challenges.
