OF THE BOIS ENERGIE 2013 INNOVATION COMPETITION The 2012 Jury, chaired by Mr. Bernard Lemoult

reviewed all 19 submitted applications. Twelve candidates were pre-selected and were subsequently visited during the Exhibition on Thursday March 21st 2012. The Jury was constituted of the following members: • Bernard LEMOULT, Sustainable Development Officer at Mines de Nantes, President of ATEE West and Director of AFUL Chantrerie • Annick GARSAULT-FABBI, Coordinator of the Wood Energy Plan for the Cantal department since 2000, co-president of the «animation» commission at CIBE • Gwenola DOARE, Chief Editor of Habitat Naturel • Xavier COLIN, Chief Editor of Granulenergie, Engineer at IDEX • Jeremy HUGUES DIT CILES, Journalist, author, director specialised in renewable energies, with a focus on wood • Jean-Pierre TACHET, Technical Advisor at CIBE The president of the jury welcomed the arrival of the Salon Bois Energie and its Innovation Competition for the first time in the Western part of France, and highlighted the quality of applications submitted this year. Another new element for this 14th edition, the splitting of the «domestic heating» category into two sub-categories: central wood heating and localised wood heating. This had become necessary due to the large number of applications in the domestic heating category. Therefore, the four categories are now: • Category 1: Wood fuel supply chain • Category 2: Central wood heating for the domestic sector • Category 3: Localised wood heating for the domestic sector • Category 4: District heating Following the visits on stands and the technical presentation of the 12 preselected candidates, the Jury awarded:

Eight prizes : four Innovation Grand Prize and four Congratulations of the Jury (one Innovation Grand Prize and one Congratulations of the Jury in each category)

Category 1 Wood fuel supply chain 1st Prize : Innovation Grand Prize Transmanut (in partnership with Legras Industrie) FMA-S (Commercialised) Articulated lorry with scraper floor and a blower. Allows delivery of humid wood chips (>30% humidity) for large volumes (up to 86 m3), allowing the construction of silos at street-level and thus making significant savings on civil works and equipments of medium and large-scale boilers. Not having to tilt the tray of the lorry makes deliveries much easier, and expensive handling equipments (conveyor belt, elevator, hopper) are no longer necessary, provided the silo is located within 25m of the parking lot.

2nd Prize : Congratulations of the Jury Delox - SiCon Eco (Commercialisation expected in June 2013) Simplified filling level measurement device for small silos, for individuals and/or wood pellet suppliers. The device is equipped with a GSM modem, which allows remote monitoring of the filling level and possibly alerts the user and/or the supplier when the level is low, which enables suppliers to optimise the supply of its customer base. Category 2 Central wood heating for the domestic sector 1st Prize : Innovation Grand Prize Novotek - Cogemax (Commercialised since January 2013) Boiler coupled with an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) scroll turbine, allowing simultaneous production of heat and electricity (microcogeneration), for the domestic market and small service industry. Available thermal outputs range from 12 to 40 kW, with an electrical output of 1.5 to 5 kW. The organic fluid as well as the scroll turbine have been developed specifically for this product. Contrary to gasification technologies, internal combustion and Stirling engines, this technology requires very little maintenance. It is robust, silent and affordable. As of now, it is the first product of its kind fully operational and really commercialised in France.

2nd Prize : Congratulations of the Jury Fröling - P1 Pellet (Commercialised) Small-scale pellet boiler (2 to 10 kW) for households under the RT2012 building regulations. Very flexible, with the possibility to add a module for hot water, and/or a module for the heating network. Very compact (0.38m² for the boiler, 0,68m² with all modules) and a high efficiency (>94%), minimised losses in standby mode. Also very silent (remote blower feeding pellets to the boiler).

Category 3 Localised wood heating for the domestic sector 1st Prize : Innovation Grand Prize Palazzetti - Ecofire Adagio (Commercialised) Airtight pellet stove with a very low power rating and a large power range (1 to 4 kW), ideal for passive and low energy consumption houses. Natural convection mode, with a piped heat exchanger developed specifically for this product. Innovative pellet feeding system, allowing as little as 200g of consumption per hour. Specific design of the crucible, inspired by Italian coffee cups, keeping it warm for longer periods. Thermal efficiency of 94%. Interesting price.

2nd Prize : Congratulations of the Jury Dixneuf - Protection murale (Commercialised since March 2013) Isolation and wall protection device, reducing the required distance between the wall and the stove (divided by two, with a minimum of 20 cm). 10 different styles are available, to suit different aesthetical tastes. Easy to install and affordable.

Category 4 District heating 1st Prize : Innovation Grand Prize OekoSolve - OekoAITop & Filterbox (Commercialised) Electrostatic filtration device with humid cleaning for boilers up to 600 kW. Easy to install and flexible, also adapted to existing boilers, thanks to its compactness. One of its advantages is to filter exhaust fumes as soon as the boiler starts (low temperature above dew point), without bypass. 80% reduction in particles. Electricity consumption of 30 to 60W only. A large number of units are already operating in Switzerland. Interesting price.

2nd Prize : Congratulations of the Jury Cogebio - Gasclean (Commercialised) Dry biomass gasifier, coupled with a hybrid biomass/fossil (natural gas, propane, heavy fuel) or 100% biomass burner. Usable biomass includes wood chips, pellets and agricultural by-products with a humidity below 20%. Very low pollutant emissions (CO
