Accompanying FEA Basic Training Course: From Conventional Stress Calculations to Finite Element Analysis A three day introductory or refresher course Gothenburg, Sweden, October 25th - 27th, 2010

The use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) techniques and an understanding of the underlying principles are becoming increasingly important. Many CAD tools offer integrated analysis capabilities. For an efficient application of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) techniques, however, the basics of engineering mechanics and mechanics of materials, as well as the fundamentals of the simulation method itself, are indispensable. The users of the powerful CAE features should dispose or refresh some essential common know-how, which is completely independent of the specific software code. There are also useful rules and recommendations related to the modelling issues, as well as to the evaluation and interpretation of results. Making use of simple hand calculations can significantly enhance the necessary competence and help to increase the significance and quality of the results obtained. Last but not least, the user should be aware not only of the possibilities but also of the limits and risks inherent to the modern analysis tools. This three day course offers excellent guidance on how to decide which approximations / simplifications are acceptable and appropriate for solving a wide range of practical problems. How to judge the reliability of the results is discussed as well, by means of a large number of selected examples. The participants can bring their particular analysis problems and contribute to the workshop part. Their interaction is encouraged throughout the course, in order to ensure maximum benefit for them. Course Lecturer Dr Yasar Deger is a well-recognised expert in teaching and practical application of Engineering Mechanics in general and Finite Element Method (FEM) in particular. For nearly three decades he has been giving lectures in these areas at the HSR, University of Applied Sciences, Department of Mechanical Engineering, in Rapperswil, Switzerland. During the same time period he was continuously engaged also in the engineering practice and has accumulated a wide range of industrial experience. In parallel, for over 15 years now he offers short-term courses & workshops addressed to design engineers and analysts involved with structural mechanics or stress analyses. Several of these courses have been organised by NAFEMS – D-A-CH (Germany, Austria & Switzerland). Language: English Notes: Included are comprehensive course notes as well as the NAFEMS book „A Finite Element Primer“. Registration The courses are open to both members and non-members of NAFEMS. Please register either online or by sending the completed feedback form. You will receive a registration confirmation. Fees NAFEMS member 8.000 SEK + VAT not NAFEMS member 12.000 SEK + VAT Included are course notes, lunch, coffee breaks and a certificate.
