Greetings fellow Lions. The new lion’s year is about to start, I send all new Lions Presidents and Boards every success and may your clubs and projects be fun and enjoyable for the coming year. Remember to keep emailing Noozletta with the news of your projects, events and any awards, new members as it helps to keep the district informed and lets everybody know what great work our clubs are doing in our communities. PDG Gary Pavitt - District Youth Chairman, urgently needs some families to help with home hosting- if you can assist please contact Gary. See details below DG Elect Stu Gray has invited all club Presidents to the Presidents Dinner – see poster below Start the week with a Smile on your Dial I had a giggle at this quote up on the black board of our local Fat Dog Cafe “People who think they know everything; are a great annoyance to those of us who do” - Isaac Asimov.

Have a great Week

Ed. Wendy

A Word from DG Jim Greetings fellow Lions, Lioness, and Leo Members. A quiet Lions week for me this past week, except for attending our District 202L final of the young speechmaker’s competition in Hamilton, along with Robyn and our granddaughter Katelyn. We were privileged to listen to 10 prepared, and rehearsed speeches of varying topics, and 10 impromptu speeches with the topic “Much a- do about Nothing”, where each Contestant was given the subject, then had 1 minute to prepare a speech of no more than 2 minutes. A great variety of speeches came from that subject. Winner of our District final was Tate Fountain, 2 nd Sebastian Hoesard, and 3rd Kimberly D`Mellor. Congratulations to the place getters, and also to all 10 Contestants for your well prepared and presented speeches. I wish to encourage all of our Clubs to start looking now for possible Contestants for next year. Along with our other Youth Programs, this deserves our full support. ]

Before leaving Hamilton, I received a phone call from All Black Coach Steve Hansen saying he needed me to travel to Auckland to cover one of the loose forward reserve positions on the bench for the Test against Wales. Not wanting to let the All Blacks down, I did go to the Test, but lucky for Wales I didn’t have to take the field. I wish DGE Stu Gray well for the rest of his Training, and his trip to Fukuoka for the International Convention, from where he will return as District Governor 202L It is with sadness that I have received news of the passing of Tirau Lions Club Member Murray Mc Alister. Murray was a past Cabinet Member. Deepest sympathy and regards to Murray`s family. Have a great week everyone, remember the commitment you made when you joined a Lions Club, and where possible, honour that commitment. Thank you all for the love and support extended to Robyn and I, and remember that we should continue to “Challenge Ourselves to do Better”. DG Jim and Robyn A word from Robyn. SCHOOL - 1950s v 2016……..What does this bring up for you? How about this “Scenario”; Johnny & Mark get into a fight after school……..1950s….. Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny & Mark shake hands and end up best friends……2016…..Police called, and they arrest Johnny and Mark & charge them with assault. Both expelled even though Johnny started it. Both children go to anger management programmes for 3 months. School governors hold meeting to implement bullying prevention programmes!! Did this bring a smile to your face?

I accompanied DG Jim, along with our {soon to be 11yrs} granddaughter Katelyn, to the Lions Speech makers finals in Hamilton on Saturday. Now, this event DID put a smile to my face!! What an amazing event, the professional attitude, sense of humour & maturity shown by all the contestants had to be heard & experienced to appreciate. I know our Katelyn was inspired!! Congratulations to all Lions, schools & families concerned for the hours of effort given to make these young people the success they are & I just know, who will continue to be! I encourage as many of you who have NEVER attend/ supported or sponsored a student to your Lions Speech Contest, DO SO next year. Please. Johnny & Mark should have been encouraged to join their schools, speech makers class? Thank you again dear Lions of 202L District, for your friendship so kindly given. Forever grateful; Robyn Towersey QSM

Te Aroha Mountain Lions enjoy afternoon tea with Pippins Three members attended the Pippins 'Thank You' Afternoon Tea and we were given a really warm welcome. The girls and leaders had gone to a great deal of trouble and presented us with a large and beautiful Thank You card which Caroline will bring to the July meeting. Caroline, Kate and myself thoroughly enjoyed being entertained and learning more about Pippins and Guides. They had prepared a yummy afternoon tea which was much appreciated, as was hearing all about what the funds we had donated went to.
