22nd June 2016 Letter from Mr May

Dear Parents, Please support our new Arts Week – Coming soon! On the final full week of term, we will be having an Arts Week (w/c. 11th July) focussing on the theme of ‘Rio’. Everything from rain forests, surf board painting, pebble painting, tie dye and more will be explored and we need your help on a few areas. 1. Parent volunteers In order to make this work, we are looking for one or two additional helpers for each class who can support the children along with the class teacher and LSA to produce their very best. You do not need any specific experience but some artistic interest would help! Our Art sessions will run on Monday 11th (all day), Tuesday 12th (all day) the morning of Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th and all day on Friday 15th July. Help for the Friday afternoon when we will be backing and presenting a lot of the work is especially welcome. Although you would not need to be there for all of them, we are ideally looking for volunteers who can offer time for a run of sessions. If you are available, drop a note in to your class teacher letting them know when you are available and we will get in touch as soon as possible. Please accept our apologies if lots of people are available, as there are only so many volunteers we can accommodate! 2. Your old rubbish, or at least, some of it… Outside the school each morning there will be a dustbin for children and parents to drop off any of these materials you may be have around the house. We need as many different materials for the children to experiment with in the four house colours of red, yellow, blue and green. Beer bottle tops of the 4 colours corks

Can opening pulls

Material scraps

Egg cartons

Unwanted CDs

Old newspapers

String

Balls of wool in the 4 colours

Washed out coke cans Buttons & beads Milk bottle lids in green, orange, red and blue

Camouflage scraps Small yoghurt pots – any colour Magazine pages of photos largely from 1 colour

3. Painting apron Please can you ensure your child has an old shirt to paint in during this week. We have some spares in school but not enough for everyone.

Problem Solving, Communication, Team Work, Positive Attitude, Confidence, Creativity and Independence

4. Donation of £1 per child If you would like to make a voluntary donation, it will go specifically towards new art materials and display boards so that we start to build something special in our art curriculum for future years. On a different subject… Winners of the Cake Competition for the Queen’s 90th Birthday We would very much like to thank Gareth Jones at Odiham Cake Company (http://odihamcakecompany.co.uk/) for the amazing finished cake design. He managed to find a way to combine the 7 ideas whilst being able to create a cake big enough to feed over 600 people. The winning designs went to Freddie Tristram, Daniel Parker, Jessica Ives, Mim Taylor, Jack Scotting, Lena Mairs and Libby Hughes.

SCHOOL NEWS Osmington Bay Residential Trip – Important Reminder Reminder to all parents that the final payment for the Osmington Trip is due on the 1st July. The trip must be fully paid by this date. If you have not already done so please can you return your child’s medical form to the School Office as soon as possible. Camo Day – Friday 24th June We are delighted to be taking part in the Armed Forces Day celebrations 2016 by supporting SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) by holiding a Camo Day on Friday 24th June. We have many exciting activities planned for the children to take part in throughout the afternoon, including face painting. The children will also have an opportunity to watch the chinook land and take off but as landing is planned for 9.00am, they will need to be in school promptly for 8.45am. The children are invited to come to school ‘camouflaged’ in some way. They do not necessarily need to wear traditional military camouflage; they can use their imagination and camouflage themselves in any way they wish. All we ask for is at least a £1.00 donation on the day that we will send to SSAFA.

Year 5 Swimming Please remember there is no swimming this Friday 24th June. American Lunch – 29th June Orders have now closed for the American lunch on Wednesday 29th June. If you have not ordered your child a lunch you will need to provide them with a packed lunch that day. Preordered meals only.

Sports Day – Thursday 30th June Start Time – 9.30am

End Time – 12pm

The morning will start with a carousel of activities and fun races where the children will be representing their house. The children will then return to school for a toilet break before coming back onto the school field for the traditional relays and races. At the end of the morning, the winning team will receive the Sports Day shield and parents and children are then invited to enjoy a picnic on the school field. Here is what you need to know:  Make sure your child comes dressed in a t-shirt of the colour of their house.  There will be NO hot dinners that day – please send your child in with a packed lunch. If you are unable to provide a packed lunch a picnic lunch, including a ham roll, can be ordered on the day.  The kitchen will not be providing snacks that day.  All children will receive a free ice pop courtesy of FOMS.  FOMs will be announcing the winners of the raffle: tickets to Lowde Fest 16.  Children will need a water bottle, sun hat and sun cream – this is your responsibility and we cannot provide this. They will be enjoying more activities in the afternoon (children only) and may therefore be outside all day.  Picnic lunches: Please be aware that adults are not permitted to drink alcohol or smoke on the school premises.  Lunch will last for approx. 45 minutes, at which point we will then ask children to return into school. Please note, if the sports morning finishes at 11.40am, we will start lunch early and finish lunch early. Therefore, we would advise anyone coming only for the picnic to arrive early. Any parents who wish to wait on the field for the Buryfields Sports Day are welcome to do so. We ask that the children wear a T-shirt in the corresponding colour of their house. SEA KING
