New artists confirmed for Celtic Connections 2016 Donald Shaw, Artistic Director of Celtic Connections today confirmed exciting additions to the programme for 2016, building on the line-up already announced and adding fascinating new elements to the festival.

A second performance of Bert Inspired: A Concert for Bert Jansch has been added following the first concert selling out in four days. Robert Plant, Bernard Butler with special guest Ben Watt, Jacqui McShee accompanied by Mike Piggott, and Ryley Walker will perform on Monday 1 February in the Main Auditorium of the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

On Thursday 28 January a concert celebrating a classic night at the 1998 Meltdown Festival curated by John Peel, comes to Oran Mor. The Nectarine No9, The Secret Goldfish, The Leopards, and special guests, present Bent Meltdown (Redux) in tribute to the legendary Peel. Glasgow duo Honeyblood make their Celtic Connections debut as part of the Roaming Roots Revue in the Main Auditorium of Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Saturday 23 January as part of a line-up that also includes Virginia soul maverick Matthew E. White.

A selection of some of the most acclaimed traditional musicians will also be taking centre stage at Celtic Connections. The finest in music and craic awaits at St Andrews in the Square on Wednesday 20 January when Glenfinnan fiddler Iain MacFarlane launches his debut solo album. Scottish multi-instrumentals duo Mairearad Green & Anna Massie continue to explore and expand on the duo format’s possibilities in a concert at The National Piping Centre on Sunday 24 January. Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas; Robyn

Stapleton & Claire Hastings; George Duff, Kevin Macleod & John Martin are among the other stars of traditional music who will be performing. The line-up for Showcase Scotland - the prestigious industry event for musical directors and programmers of leading festivals and venues from around the world which this year celebrates the music and musicians of France - is completed by French singer-songwriter Nolwenn Leroy, performing on Saturday 30 January in the City Halls and Marseille-based band Moussu T who will be appearing on Sunday 31 January at the Mitchell Theatre.

The sounds of the central São Paulo neighbourhood, Bixiga, come to Drygate Brewery on Saturday 30 January when Bixiga 70 perform a genre-spanning mix of afrobeat, Guinean malinké, Brazilian candomblé, samba and cumbia.

The best in world music is to the fore in a new concert at the Mackintosh Church on Saturday 23 January featuring South Indian Carnatic violinist Jyotsna Srikanth and renowned Santoor artist, Dr Dhananjay Daithanker.

One of the hottest selling tickets, Teddy Thompson supported by Holly Macve, will now take place in the Main Auditorium of Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Wednesday 27 January, leaving the original venue the Mitchell Library to catch a breather before hosting an evening with James Yorkston, the Pictish Trail and Withered Hand on Thursday 28 January. New York-based singer-songwriter Greg Trooper brings his beautifully crafted music to The National Piping Centre. The electro-folk music of Broken Back comes to Drygate Brewery. Edinburgh-based folk singer-songwriter Bella Hardy performs at The Mackintosh Church. Legendary singer, songwriter and broadcaster Jimmie Macgregor returns to the festival, teaming up with Annie Grace and friends for an evening at St Andrews in the Square. Combining an ancient melody with her own tunes, award-wining Black Isle fiddler Lauren MacColl previews her new solo album at the Art Club. Each Sunday afternoon during the festival at 2.30pm at the O2 ABC, a line-up of four artists will help ease you over any lingering memories from the Saturday night before with Hazy Recollections. Each show will also feature a surprise artist. Performers include Bella & The Bear, Teen Canteen, Have Mercy Las Vegas, and Findlay Napier.

There’s Celtic Americana from Leith via Nashville with Dean Owens and the Whisky Hearts, and virtuoso performances on the Syrian kanun by Maya Youssef to look forwards to as well. Beginning on Thursday 14 January 2016, 2,500 musicians from around the world will gather in Glasgow for 18 days of concerts, ceilidhs, talks, art exhibitions, workshops, free events, late night sessions and a host of special one-off musical collaborations.
