CLINICIANS/GUEST SPEAKERS HOLGER OSIECK Former Head Coach Canadian and Australian Men’s National Teams Former Head of Development for FIFA Holger Osieck is one of the most important names in Canadian soccer history, as he led the men’s national team to a CONCACAF Gold Cup championship as head coach in 2000, beating Colombia 2-0 in the historic final. Prior to this North American success, Osieck was as an assistant coach to Franz Beckenbauer with Germany during their run to the FIFA World Cup championship in 1990. Osieck has also coached at the top club levels in the world, spending time as head coach of Fenerbahce and VfL Bochum, as well as an assistant with Olympique Marseille where he won the French League 1 title. As manager of Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan, he won the 2007 AFC Champions League. His accomplishments include winning the Turkish Cup with Koceali Spor and a bronze medal at the 207 FIFA Club World Cup. Osieck most recently served as head coach of the Australian men’s national team, leading them to the final of the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. Osieck also spent time as chief of FIFA’s technical department from 2004-06. His professional playing career consisted of stints with the likes of FC Schalke 04, Eintracht Gelsenkirchen, SSV Hagen, and the Vancouver Whitecaps of the North American Soccer League (NASL). Today, Osieck is currenlty working as a FIFA consultant. MARCEL LUCASSEN Techical Director, Al-Nasr FC - Dubai Former Technical Skills Coach, German Football Federation The World Football Academy’s football technique expert, Marcel Lucassen is the current technical director of Al-Nasr FC in Dubai, responsible for the youth academy in the club. He will also work with the Football Federation of the UAE to assist with coaching education in the country. Lucassen was formerly the assistant coach of the German U-17 national team and an individual coach for technique and tactics for the German FA (DFB). With the DFB, Lucassen had full-time responsibility for the individual technical and tactical training of the German national youth teams. With the U-17 squad, he helped the team to a runner-up finish at the UEFA European championships in 2015. Lucassen has worked with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira, and Mario Gotze to help develop an exciting new generation of extremely skilful German stars, which culminated in a victory for Germany at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Prior to his work with the DFB, Lucassen spent time as individual coach at Manchester United, 1899 Hoffenheim, and MSV Duisburg.

CLINICIANS/GUEST SPEAKERS continued ROBIN FRASER Assistant Coach, Toronto FC Robin Fraser is currently an assistant coach with Toronto FC of Major League Soccer (MLS), where he works with top talents such as Sebastian Giovinco, Michael Bradley, and Jozy Altidore. Prior to joining Toronto FC, Fraser served as assistant coach with the New York Red Bulls (MLS), where he was part of the club’s Supporters Shield winning side in 2013 and advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2014. Fraser did experience MLS glory as an assistant coach with Real Salt Lake as he helped the side to the MLS Cup championship in 2009. He also spent two seasons as head coach of Chivas USA. Before his coaching career in the MLS, Fraser was the head coach of RSL Arizona U-17 and the Director of Coaching for the Arizona Futbol Club. Fraser also experienced a decorated professional playing career that began with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers of the American Soccer League, before being drafted into the MLS by the LA Galaxy in 1996. During his career in MLS, Fraser spent time with the Galaxy (1996-2000), Colorado Rapids (2001-03), and Columbus Crew (2004-05). He was a two-time MLS Cup runner-up (1996, 1999), two-time Supporters Shield winner (1998, 2004), and a CONCACAF Champions Cup winner (2000). Fraser was also named MLS defender of the year on two occasions (1999, 2004), named to the MLS Best XI five times, and was a five-time MLS all-star. In addition to a successful club career, Fraser also earned twenty-seven international caps for the United States men’s national team.

LAURENT GUYOT Academy Director, Toronto FC Laurent Guyot is currently the academy director at Toronto FC of Major League Soccer (MLS), a position he assumed in June of 2015. At Toronto FC, he oversees player and coach development within the Academy. Guyot most recently served as head coach of the U-16 French national team, and acted as an instructor with the French Football Federation (FFF) teaching both the youth professional license and full professional license coaching programs. He was also a key contributor to the partnership between the FFF and MLS, serving as an instructor for the Elite Formation Coaching License (EFCL) program and working with coaching representatives from MLS academies. Guyot began his coaching career as a youth coach with French club FC Nantes, coaching the U-15, U-18 and reserve sides, as well as acting as academy director for the club. He also coached the CS Sedan Ardennes first team, as well as US Boulogne in Ligue 1, France’s top professional division. Prior to beginning his coaching career, Guyot experienced a successful fourteen-year playing career as a centre back, playing mainly for FC Nantes and winning the Ligue 1 title in 1994-95. During his career, Guyot played in 290 Ligue 1 matches and 36 Ligue 2 matches, including experience in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. In addition to his decorated club career, Guyot represented France internationally at the U-17, U-18, U-20 and U-21 levels.

CLINICIANS/GUEST SPEAKERS continued ANSON DORRANCE Head Coach, University of North Carolina Women’s Soccer (NCAA, Div. 1) Anson Dorrance is currently in his 36th season as head coach of the women’s soccer program at the University of North Carolina, a position he has held since the program’s inception in 1979. As head coach of the Tar Heels, Dorrance has amassed an all-time record of 763-54-29 (winning 91% of games overall), won 22 national championships (21 NCAA crowns and one AIAW title), 20 regular season ACC titles and 20 ACC tournament championships. Dorrance is the first coach in NCAA history to win 20 championships coaching a single sport, and was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2008. In 2004, ESPN named him as one of the best coaches of the past quarter century. Dorrance also served as head coach of the United States women’s national team, leading the team to the inaugural FIFA World Cup championship in 1991. When he ended his tenure as national team head coach in 1994, Dorrance had earned an overall record of 66-22-5 (.737). During his coaching career North Carolina and with the USWNT, Dorrance has coached some of the finest women’s soccer players in history, including Mia Hamm, Michelle Akers, and Kristine Lilly.

FRÉDÉRIC LIPKA Youth Technical Director, Major League Soccer Frédéric Lipka is currently the youth technical director for Major League Soccer (MLS), overseeing the development of youth programs within the MLS. He previously served as a consultant to the MLS in evaluating the academy programs of all clubs, while in his position in the Youth Elite Development Academy for French Football Consulting. Here he evaluated players, held clinics, and conducted training courses for coaches. Lipka was also a key member in launching the partnership between the MLS and the French Football Federation (FFF), where coaches from every MLS academy complete the French EFCL (Elite Formation Coaching License), a youth professional coaching license aimed at raising the standard of coaching in North America. Lipka also served as head coach of the U19 academy and reserve teams at Le Havre Athletic Club (HAC), one of the most prestigious youth academies in France, as well as general manager and head coach of Racing Club de France. Lipka holds the UEFA ‘A’ and youth coaching licenses.

Players used for all on-field sessions will include members of the Varsity Blues men’s and women’s soccer teams and KIA Toronto FC Academy.

GARY MILLER Technical Director, Ontario Soccer Association Gary Miller currently serves as technical director of the Ontario Soccer Association (OSA), a position he has held since being appointed in March of 2015. He has an abundance of experience in the Ontario and Canada soccer communities, having held the positions of OSA technical director and director of high performance, as well as high performance director of the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA). Miller most recently acted as a volunteer member of the OSA technical advisory committee having a significant influence on the establishment of the Ontario Player Development League (OPDL). He also spent over eighteen years at the academy level, having been the owner and president of Bryst International Inc., a private soccer academy he established in 1996. Miller’s roles with the OSA include overseeing soccer technical operations including coach and referee development, as well as player development from grassroots to high performance (inclusive of OPDL). Miller has also gained an extensive coaching education, as he holds A Licenses from the CSA, USSF (United States Soccer Federation), and UEFA (Union of European Football Associations).

MARK MARSHALL Manager of Coaching, Ontario Soccer Association Mark Marshall currently serves as manager, coaching for the Ontario Soccer Association, a position he has held since September 2011. Marshall has worked in Ontario for the last 20 years in all levels of the game. – as club technical director for Aurora Youth Soccer Club and Newmarket Soccer Club, OSA regional coach and OSA provincial/ NTC coach. In 1994, Marshall became a member of staff for the OSA coaching department as an instructor, then Learning Facilitator (LF) and currently he is a Master Learning Facilitator (MLF). Marshall has also been a member of staff for the Canadian Soccer Association on the National B License Course and currently is delivering courses for the Coaching Association of Canada as a multi-sport master facilitator. Marshall graduated From York University and has worked in several educational environments as a teacher and a coach. He is a holder of a Canadian A License and a UEFA A License. He is also a holder of the NSCAA advanced national and premier diploma courses.

ELISABETTA BAVAGNOLI Technical Director Youth Sector Talent, Academy Roma Former Assistant Coach, Canadian Women’s National Team Elisabetta “Betty” Bavagnoli is the former assistant coach of the Canadian and Italian women’s senior national teams, as well as SS Lazio CF of the Serie A Femminile, where she won a Coppa Italia in 1998-99. She was also head coach of the Italian U-19 women’s national team, guiding them to an appearance at the U-19 FIFA women’s world championship in Thailand. During her time as an assistant working with Carolina Morace and the Canadian women’s national team, she helped guide the Canadians to unprecedented success. Under Morace and Bavagnoli, the Canadian women won the Cyprus Cup in 2010 and 2011, as well as the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2010. On 5 July 2013, Bavagnoli was the only woman awarded the UEFA Pro License at Coverciano, the central training ground and technical headquarters of the FIGC, the Italian Football Association. Before she began her successful coaching career, Bavagnoli enjoyed a decorated playing career in Italy playing with clubs such as Piacenza, Lazio, Modena, Verona, Reggiana and Milan ’82, winning the Serie A championship on seven different occasions. She also earned eighty appearances for the Italian women’s national team, playing in four UEFA women’s championships and the inaugural FIFA women’s World Cup in 1991. Bavagnoli was a member of the Italian team that finished second at the UEFA Women’s Euro in 1993, the Azzurri’s best achievement to date.

DR. GUIDO GUISLER Sport Psychologist, University of Tsukuba (Japan) Dr. Guido Geisler is a lecturer of sport psychology and coaching within the University of Tsukuba’s International Academy for Sport Studies, Japan. He previously held contract positions at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland (where he led theoretical and applied courses in sport/performance psychology), and at the University of Toronto (where he taught theory and practice of coaching soccer). Dr. Geisler obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto and has presented his soccerfocused research at more than 20 international conferences in Europe, Asia, and North America. His practical applications include the development of mental plans and the inclusion of mental skills in coaches’ training activities. Outside the academic domain, he served as both head coach (women) and assistant coach (men) at the University of Toronto, and as a player, was a five-time OUA all-star with the Varsity Blues and a member of the 1988 CIS national championship team. He also spent time during 1990-91 with Rapide Wedding Berlin of the previous German third division (Oberliga). With respect to consulting work, Dr. Geisler has been the mental training coach for the University of Toronto men’s soccer program since 2007. He has also prepared mental training materials for junior golfers in the US and Turkey, and for the coaching staff of Japan’s national men’s and women’s cricket teams.
