Responsible Solutions “Cleaning for Health and Safety” By Brian Eltis and Red Fulcher You have heard Red and Brian talk about Responsible Solutions. You have read and heard the buzz words of the moment: Green Programs, Green Energy, Environmental Responsibility, Green Cleaning. There are many more variations on the same theme. The theme is a good one. The theme is one that you should adopt for your congregation. So here is the important question!! Why Adopt The CE Supply Responsible Solutions GREEN PROGRAM? Here are 4 easy answers. 1) The CE Supply Responsible Solutions Program will IMPROVE THE INDOOR AIR QUALITY OF YOUR FACILITY. The program will positively impact your congregants as well as your associates. The program especially benefits children and adults with allergies and asthma. 2) The CE Supply Responsible Solutions Program will be REVENUE NEUTRAL if not less expensive than your current program. 3) The CE Supply Responsible Solutions Program is SIMPLE TO IMPLEMENT. 4) The CE Supply Responsible Solutions Program BENEFITS and IMPROVES THE ENVIRONMENT. The real bonus for you is the Communications Package. Once fully adopted we will furnish you with a communications package that will allow you to easily communicate to your congregation the wonderful steps you have taken to improve the environment. Red and Brian’s deal of the month is the Communications Package. Please call or email Red or Brian to help you implement your own Responsible Program! It will be one of your best decisions! PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Well, fall is here and we are turning our attention to a different time of the year. Each season comes and goes we change the way we may be attending to some activities but for the most part we watch over our facility and our people just like we always have. This brings up a good point. I recently read a great book that many of you may have already read and I highly recommend it. The book is called “The Way of the Shepherd by Dr. Kevin Leman and William Pentak”. It is a book about your heart, your character, and your priorities. What amazed me about this book is that as facility managers we are very much like a shepherd in many ways. I don’t want to tell you the entire story but I would like to remark on many areas of our ministry that we can improve. The way of the Shepherd shows us how God, a simple sheep shepherd and you and I are very much alike. We should manage our flock or staff each day as God manages our life. For now let us put ourselves in the position of the shepherd and our employees as your sheep. Do you know the condition of your Flock? Get to know your employees one at a time. God know us individually! You should know your sheep the same way. Discover the shape of your sheep. Your choice of sheep can make your flock management easier or harder, or are you inheriting someone else’s problems. Are they in the right position? God is constantly maneuvering us in to position that is best for us. As the shepherd leads the direction, are you out front and leading the way? There are many tools the shepherd may use. Remember the staff is used to direct and keep your sheep in the right direction. The loop end of the staff is used when you have to pull a little harder on some of the sheep to straighten their path. I know many times God has used the loop end of the staff on me to keep me in His path. The shepherd also uses the rod. He uses it not on his sheep but on the predators that are after his sheep. Stand in the gap and fight for your sheep. There is a price to pay for your leadership and you or your sheep must pay that price. Good leadership is a lifestyle, not a technique. Have a heart for your sheep! God chose His son to pay the price for us. Are you paying the price for your leadership? Empowering and Serving Glenn

Leadership

I was at a seminar and attended a session about leaders verses managers by Ken Wasco with Gordon Food Service. What he shared was that leaders see a bigger picture and people while managers are task orientated and are get it done type people. Every organization needs both types but it seems that true leaders rise to the top. Here are some things he shared that represent leaders: - They realize it is never about them - They realize everybody wants something and you help others succeed - They realize success takes time and you need to commit to individuals not processes - They know how to energize people by building personal relationships - They use successful situations as opportunities to praise people publicly - They experience success through their people - They can sense a diamond in the rough and are “diamond cutters” As leaders at home, work, church or anywhere remember someone is always watching and listening and you can’t take back your actions or words. To wrap up this idea of leadership I would like to pay tribute to someone, I and many others have seen as a leader. My father went to be with his Lord on November 3, 2007 after a sixmonth battle with cancer. I was overwhelmed with the number of people he has impacted in his short 68 years on this earth. As at least 600 people came to the visitation and shared with the family how he had impacted them and then to help write his eulogy I could see how he was a true leader. He first served his community as a police officer retiring after 33 years as a Captain. He served his country retiring with 25 years in the Air National Guard as an E9 Command Chief Master Sergeant, the highest available enlisted rank. Finally his shortest but most loved service was to his Lord as he received his license to preach in the United Methodist church and lead two congregations for about four years. He did all this while being a loving father and husband and impacting generations to come by being a true leader of his family. We will miss him dearly but his legacy will live on through the many people he had the opportunity to lead. Sherri and I want to thank all of the NACFM board, the membership and spouses for their loving support and prayers through this difficult time. The flowers meant a lot, as we knew you were thinking of us. We are enjoying them still and as I sit in the living room in the evening they remind me of all the great friendships I have in the NACFM.

Autobiography of Kevin Reitz I praise the Lord for the work he has done in my life. The events in my life that have brought me to this point have been simply amazing. These experiences have brought me to the Lord’s call on life as a church facility manager. Originally from Pennsylvania, my mother lived and worked on a farm growing up. My father worked for a family grocery business that evolved into a 102-store chain based in Dubois, PA. My Father was the head engineer for the company. In laymen’s terms, he made sure everything worked, and if it didn’t, he fixed it. In 1973, my parents felt the Lord leading them into full-time Christian service. We moved to Kentucky, and they began working with a missions organization. My Father led many work crusades around the world exposing people to ministry. These trips and experiences began to mold me and prepare me for full time ministry. I met my wife-to-be Linda in high school where we played in the high school band together. In July of 1979, she became my bride and we set up housekeeping in Nicholasville, KY. We have two children, Julie who is married to Jeremiah, and our son James. We also have two grandchildren, Haven and Liam with a third due in October. All of our kids are serving in Christian service in a church in Indiana, and all have been missionaries. We are truly blessed with a wonderful family. I began my full time work experience at Asbury College as a custodian; shortly after that, I went to work for a plumbing company. There I gained a multitude of experiences in the plumbing field. From there, I ran a small plumbing supply store where I began to hone my customer service skills. My next career began with a major pet supply company. There I continued to hone my customer service skills, and within a year was promoted into management. My management and organizational skills were learned through this time. I worked for this company until downsizing finally hit home, and I was without work. Within six months, the Lord opened the doors to start a cleaning company. We were a full service company, providing not only cleaning services, but also maintenance services to the apartment industry. Linda and I did this for five years. During our fourth year in business, the Lord began to lead us in another direction. In December 1998, I was hired as the Facility Manager of Immanuel Baptist Church. The challenges have been many during my time with Immanuel Baptist Church. We have increased the number of events in our facility by two-fold. We have renovated our sanctuary and completed a 68,000 square foot addition to our facility in 2003. The Lord has blessed and continues to bless the ministry of Immanuel Baptist Church. I am excited at what the Lord has in store for us.
