Death, Grace, Life

Muerte, Gracia, Vida

Fr. Rene Butler, MS Death is among the causes of Mary’s tears at La Sale e. “Children under seven will be seized with trembling and die in the arms of the persons who hold them.” The death of the li le innocent ones wrings all but the hardest of hearts, how much more the gentle heart of Mother Mary. The Beau ful Lady calls us to live the life of the bap zed, to let the power of grace work in us. Eternal life is our Chris an desny, a most especial gi . Mary’s tears fall in abundance because her people, by rejec ng the gi , have rejected the Giver. Yet her hope is “full of immortality.” She will not abandon us. She will see us through the crisis, she will guide us to her Son who will raise us up on the last day. The way may be like the steep zigzag path that Mary traced at the end of the Appari on. Like the two children, however, we can stay close behind, confident that where she leads we cannot fail to be secure. She will bring us to her Son, through whose death we have, and will have, grace and life.

Fr.

DOMUS DEI ...DOMUS ECCLESIAE (House of God...House of the Church (God’s People)

Sanctuary The Altar We reflected last week that Christ’s passion, death and resurrection happens at the altar. It is this mystery that we remember and make present every time we celebrate the mass with the priest. The United States Bishops’ document, Built of Living Stones, corroborates this statement in: A t the Eucharist, the liturgical assembly celebrates the ritual sacrificial meal that recalls and makes present Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, proclaiming “the death of the Lord until he comes.” (no. 56 ) The same document states that the Altar “is the center of thanksgiving that the Eucharist accomplishes”[71] and the point around which the other rites are in some manner arrayed. (72). Elsewhere we reflected on the fact that the A ltar is Christ and this document teaches that its (altar) “composition should reflect the nobility, beauty, strength, and simplicity of the One it represents. DOMUS DEI ...

Celebrating Mary in October

Celebrando María en octubre

So far as of last September and continuing through October we have reflected on the meaning of the symbols surrounding her apparition at La Salette specifically: the symbols of the Mountain and of the Globe of Fire (LIGHT). In October, we learned about he meaning of the rosary and how the Beautiful Lady was dressed like the poor women of La Salette. Moreover, she taught the children to pray well, at least the Our Father and the Hail Mary. Now we turn to the symbols of Roses on her feet, waist, shoulders and on her head. The roses on her feet, and around her waist symbolize the Joyful mysteries. After receiving the joyful announcement that she would conceive the Son of God, and, after a dialogue with the Angel messenger, she accepted the good news.. What did she do? (to be continued…)
