Hello and welcome When you arrive, please do the following things: -

sign in on the register find an available computer introduce yourself to anyone sitting nearby switch on the computer log in using your AUT username and password See if you can find MS Word and open it

This workshop is for: • people who are starting out with Word, or for those who are developing confidence with computers

But first… …we’re going to learn about an essential resource for learning all we need to know about how to use MS Word.

As students of AUT, you have free access to lynda.com lynda.com is an excellent online resource packed full of clear and easy to understand video tutorials on numerous software programmes. The main advantages of lynda.com are that you can watch each video again and again, and also pause and replay any part of a video as many times as you need.

Open Internet Explorer Type lynda.com into the address bar Select “Log in” Under “Log in through your organisation or school”, enter www.aut.ac.nz (only required when logging in for the first time) 5. On the next screen, enter your AUT log in details 6. You will then be returned to the lynda.com homepage

Word 2013 Essential Training This is a great course you can access in lynda.com - most of the functions you need to know how to use as a beginner user of Word are covered clearly - search for this course after you log in There are other great videos on Word in lynda.com also. Have a look!

Open Internet Explorer. Type www.aut.ac.nz into the address bar Near the top right-hand corner of the AUT homepage, click on AUT Online. On the AUT Online homepage, look at the links on the left-hand side. Find the Student Learning Centre and click on it. On the Student Learning Centre homepage, click on Learning resources. On the Learning resources page, click on Study Smart (in the right-hand column). On the next page, click on Workshop presentations (the eighth item on the list at the top of the page). You will then be dropped down the page to the Workshop and seminar print resources area. In the table, look at the middle column. At the bottom of the list, click on Microsoft Word Sample Text. A box will appear, asking you the following question: “What do you want to do with…?”. Click on Open. The document will now open in MS Word. It will open in the “Reading view”, which only allows us to read the document. However, we need to be able to edit this document, so click on VIEW near the top left-hand corner. A drop-down menu will appear. Click on Edit Document. Now we are ready to play with Word, hooray!
