Morton High School Class of 1976 30th Reunion Dear Classmates, Every class reunion we have had so far has had a theme…except this one. The last Reunion’s theme was “Forever Young.” Forever is a very long time. That would imply that certainly after only 5 more years we would still be “young.” Then why did we not have a theme for our 30th reunion? Certainly NOT because we are getting old and forgetful, right? After talking to quite a few of the people who attended our 30th reunion, we can safely say that it was a resounding success. Scheduling this reunion during the Pumpkin Festival was a big hit with the out-of-town classmates, but caused some problems for the local classmates who regularly volunteer for various festival events and booths. There were a number of classmates who had never attended any of our reunions before this one. The comment that was common from all of them was that they were all amazed how everyone had “grown up” and there wasn’t any of that “clique-ishness” we all remember so well from high school days. Those of us who have attended most if not all of the reunions haven’t seen much of that in many years, so we were surprised by that! Another common comment was that nobody was bragging about how much money they made, how important they were, or anything else that would make the average person try to initiate the gag reflex. We all had a wonderful time seeing each other, joking around, updating one another about life’s journeys, and crying just a bit when we got the bits of bad news such as the passing of Laurie Merritt Carrico. But by and large, the time went far too quickly with not enough time to spend with everyone and catch up on everything. As usual, though, it was sad that we didn’t see more classmates who still live in or around Morton. Much of the chatter during the evening was regarding disappointment that so-and-so wasn’t there to share in the occasion. We are proud to say that we didn’t hear a single negative comment or gossip about anyone who wasn’t there, either. We all just hope that more of the classmates who are proud to be life-long residents of Morton (and of the greater Morton metropolitan area) will grace us with your presence at the 35th Reunion. We miss you guys! Last time around, the reunion committee asked for some new people to step forward to plan future reunions, and some of us took that step forward to meet the challenge. This committee was a wonderful mix of experience and new enthusiasm. We all worked hard to make this happen and can’t wait to start planning the 35th! One last thing…OK, two last things! We hope you don’t mind if we spam you from time to time, just so you don’t forget about us, and secondly, don’t forget to check the website for updates. Since the website is new this time around, we can’t say how often to check, but everyday would probably be too often…☺ You will always be able to give us updates to your address, phone numbers, email addresses, etc. by filling out the electronic sheet like you might have done for the reunion. It will really help the committee finding you to let you know about future reunions! If there is anything we can do until the next reunion, please “give us a shout,” or at least send an email! It's been a fun 30 years! I got married and graduated from Bradley in 1978 (believe it or not), lived in Lesotho, Africa from 1980 to 1983, briefly stopped in Morton then lived north of Bloomington in Flanagan 1984-1992. We lived in Champaign for 16 months then in Houston from 1994-2000. Y2K found us moving back to Champaign where we hope to stay for a while! Since it would take way too much typing (& brain cells) to recall all of the past 30 (!) years, I'll go back to 1989 when I had a wonderful opportunity to move to Orlando, FL and do planning & development for Universal & Nickelodeon studios. After the opening, I moved on to PBG&S as a Sr. Admin. Mgr. over their Tampa, West Palm & Orlando offices. I worked on several water resource & hydrogeology projects throughout the state and spent a lot of time over a two year period in Manhattan on a large storm water project. In 1997, I moved back to good ol' Illinois to give my boys the Midwest values and time with their grandparents - both of which seemed lacking in Orlando. They both went on to graduate from MHS! The saying "it's in your own backyard" proved too true as I reconnected with an old friend from back in the day - Kenneth Baum. We were married on August 4, 1999 on Sapphire Mountain in Breckenridge, CO. We bought a home in Whispering Oaks in Groveland - just houses away from the home I lived in during my Jr. & Sr. years. Kenneth & I still make our annual trip to Siesta Key, FL for the month of March and just love it there! We also enjoy road trips to NASCAR races & do a lot of entertaining at our home. I've spent the last 7 years creating events & doing events thru my event management company, Innovative Events. I LOVE to cook & cater and frequently handle that for my friends. I bought the former Uhlman Pumpkin Farm & Corn Maze in 2005 and renamed it Green Acres Farm. I volunteer with the Morton Chamber & have chaired the Merchant Tent the last 5 years. Note: We received two bios from Terry. This one is the first: After the operation, which really changed my life, I worked on the Alaska pipeline and went into fishing on the Bearing Sea. I made my fortune by inventing Post-It notes using different colors than canary yellow, but lost it when I was sued by 3M. Currently, I juggle for a living in the Pike Street Market in Seattle. And this one is the second...You pick which one you would like to believe ☺ - ed. After graduating I worked a number of jobs and went to school. I received a BA in mathematics from the University of Chicago and a MS in applied math from Northwestern (with honors) where I was enrolled in the Ph.D. program. Who would have guessed after almost failing Wayne Wector's algebra class (was it me or was it Wayne soft voice late in the afternoon....). I also received my MBA from London Business School. I left the Ph.D. program to work for Swiss Bank Corp in Chicago where I was VP of quantitative analysis. Next,I took a job with GE Capital in NY in the early 90's and 3 years later moved to London where I was Managing Director for interest rate trading for Bank of America. I moved to a director position with ING Bank (London)where I traded emerging market debt and they moved back to NY in 1998 just after marrying Natalie Frutig, who I met while she was a student at the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2000 my life was greatly improved by the arrival of Harry, my 1st son. In 2001 I began consulting for Citibank's risk management group and also did some work for Bank of America's investment bank. On the morning of Sep 11th I was supposed to be at WTC 1, but to be able to sleep late, I rescheduled to the late afternoon of the 10th (serendipity at work, how could I know that not being a morning person would be an asset someday). We heard the 1st plane pass over our house before hitting the WTC, which was about a mile south. The next day the winds changed to out of the south and the acrid smell was unberable and we evacuated to Natalie's family in upstate NY as soon as the trains started working again. Two days after we returned to NY Boeing offered me a position in Chicago and I didn't think twice. We moved to Evanston and my son Oscar was born in 2004. We almost made it to a Pumpkin Festival, but not quite. Natalie really wants to see one.... In 2005 Boeing moved me to Seattle to head the deal analysis for their leasing portfolio. My beautiful daughter Adi was born here last year. We have a beautiful view of lake Washington and Mt Rainier & Mt Baker. It is exceptionally beautiful in the summer but December through February are pretty hard to take between the darkness and the rain. I'd take a cold clear Illinois day to a dark, overcast month of rain anytime.

Upon completion, they laid me of indefinitely. I then had a variety of jobs which included, a woodworking business called the Wooden Nichol, being a janitor at a church, taking photographs for the Peoria Area Reality Assoc, canning pumpkins for Libby’s, and bailing hay. Realizing after this three year period what I did not want to do, I took a job with a local firm doing technical writing. After 5 years, they decided to get out of the technical writing business, so I and two others started Technical Publication Associates, Inc in 1990. In September 2004 I became sole owner of the business. I have been happily married now for 26 years and our son Adam is 21. Lori was a retiree at the ripe old age of 48 from Caterpillar. She now enjoys her time of being able to shop throughout the day, but in reality she has come to work for me. Adam is currently attending Johnson and Wales University pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts. He had the opportunity to visit India this summer, and in fact is there as I write this. I also had an extended trip this summer to Alaska, which is indescribable. Probably the most life-changing event for me has been accepting Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. I lived in Lawrence until 1992, then bought a house on 5 acres on the outskirts of the Kansas City metro. In 2001, I took a year of leave from the EPA and moved to Davis, CA. Out there I worked for the California Wilderness Coalition, a small but mighty non-profit, where I got to combine two of my areas of interest - politics and the environment. While I spent four years there, I would have to say my better education came from spending three weeks in South Africa doing volunteer work shortly after apartheid was lifted. I have been blessed with 2 great friends that I consider my best friends, Betsy (Berg)Windsor and Sherry Nelson Stephens, Sherry will actually becoming to the reunion with me as she stayed with me during summers while I attended MHS. I live in a 2 bedroom apt. in Chillicothe, awaiting for next spring when I am supposed to have a home built, I am very excited about that because they will build it handicap accessible as sometimes I am in a wheelchair due to a neurological disease. I am doing well, and enjoy being on my own. Most of my family lives here in Chillicothe, and I really enjoy that. Can't wait to see everyone at the reunion.
