MISD Spring Registration: Graduation Requirements

As easy as 1-2-3! 1) 5 STAAR End of Course (EOC) Exams

2) 26 specific credits 3) 4 credits from the 26 that are connected by an endorsement

STAAR End of Course (EOC) • • • • •

Algebra I Biology English I English II US History

When do I take the EOC and when will I know my scores? • State EOC exams are designed to be taken as you are completing the target course at the “end” of the course. The English EOCs are typically given in April and the other subjects are usually given in May. • 9th grade students typically take an EOC in English I, Biology, and Algebra I. • Scores usually arrive in June.

What happens if I don’t pass my EOC? • You will be required to repeat the exam. • MISD will provide special instruction to assist you in improving your skills. You may be placed in specific courses as an elective or you may be asked to attend summer programming or other instruction outside the regular school day. • Successful mastery of the EOC exams is required to complete your high school diploma.

MISD Recommendations • The Texas Education Agency gives authority to individual school districts to add local requirements to the state plans. •McKinney ISD has aligned the requirements for graduation to prepare students for diverse postsecondary options, including both defined career pathways and coursework to prepare students seeking admission to selective colleges and universities. • Students and parents should carefully research college admission requirements when making course selections. • See the Academic Planning Guide and the Parent and Student Guide to Graduating under House Bill 5 for more information.
