Meet the Senior Leadership Of Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC

Joe McAleese is Chairman of Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC (BCVS). He is a member of the three-person Bendix Executive Board. With headquarters in Elyria, Ohio, Bendix is a member of the Munich, Germany-based Knorr-Bremse Group, the leading worldwide supplier of pneumatic braking and related safety systems for commercial vehicle and railroad applications. A seasoned executive with diverse industry experience, McAleese has enjoyed a dynamic career at Bendix and Honeywell / AlliedSignal (owners of Bendix prior to January 2002) for over 30 years. He has spent over 20 years with the Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems business, and has held numerous leadership roles including Vice President - Finance, Vice President - OE Enterprise, Vice President - Six Sigma, Vice President E-Business and Vice President - Operations. McAleese served as President of Bendix since May, 2001, adding the CEO title in October, 2003. He was named Chairman in 2014.

In addition to his role at Bendix, McAleese has served the industry as the 2012 and 2013 Chairman of the board of governors for the Motor Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA). He has been a member of the board of MEMA, in addition to being a member of the MEMA Executive Committee, since 2008. McAleese has also served the commercial vehicle industry as 2008 chairman of the board of governors for HDMA (Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association) and 2009 co-chair of Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week. He was a board member of HDMA, from 2001 thru 2012. He is a frequent speaker at both trucking industry events and a range of business leadership forums. A strong supporter of educational and community involvement, McAleese also has been appointed to a number of civic and educational organizations, including the Bowling Green State University business school Board of Advocates, and the Lorain County Community College Foundation Board. He served as the 2010 corporate chairman of the Cleveland Kidney Walk by the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) serving Ohio. McAleese holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and a Master of Accountancy degree, both from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. In March 2009 he was honored by the University as one of its accomplished graduates. A resident of Avon Lake, Ohio, McAleese is the father of two children; Kyle born in October 1997, and Ashley born in July 2001.

Berend Bracht is President and CEO of Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC (BCVS). He is a member of the three-person Bendix Executive Board. An established entrepreneurial and visionary leader with broad international/multicultural experience, Bracht brings strong strategic vision and a proven track record of optimizing business performance and sustained profitability. He comes to Bendix after an accomplished 24-year career as a part of the Bosch Rexroth organization, an international leader in drive and control technology. There he most recently served as president and chief executive officer of Bosch Rexroth Americas. In that post since 2007, Bracht led the company to annual sales of over a billion USD, engineered multiple successful M&A projects, and drove a substantial and sustained increase in sales volume within the Americas Region of the global Bosch Rexroth organization.

Bracht’s knowledge of the North American marketplace began President & CEO Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC early in his career. After completing two years as a technical sales engineer at Mannesmann Rexroth in Munich, in 1993, he accepted the U.S.-based role of sales engineer, relocating his family to Bethlehem, Pa. Rapidly moving up the leadership ranks, in 2000 he was appointed vice president & general manager for Bosch Rexroth and directed the post-merger integration of Rexroth’s and Bosch’s Industrial Hydraulic divisions. In 2004, capitalizing on a strong track record of accomplishment alongside his holistic business approach, he was named president and chief executive officer of Bosch Rexroth China. During his three years in Shanghai, he led the construction of two manufacturing facilities, doubled the overall employee census, and tripled the regional sales organization to help achieve strong sales growth. While still in grade school, Bracht moved from Germany to Brazil; it’s one of the reasons he describes himself as an international citizen. He is tri-lingual, with proficiency in English, German, and Portuguese, plus he also maintains a good understanding of conversational Spanish. Bracht holds an MS in mechanical engineering as well as an MBA from the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Bracht and his wife, Silke, will relocate from Charlotte, N.C., to Northeast Ohio in the near future. They are the parents of three grown daughters – Bianca, Melanie, and Kimberly.

Carlos Hungria joined Bendix Commercial Vehicle System LLC (BCVS) on July 2, 2012 as Chief Operating Officer. He is a member of the three-person Bendix Executive Board.

An entrepreneurial and visionary leader with broad international/ multicultural experience and a proven record of accomplishment of optimizing operational performance and sustained profitability, Hungria enjoyed an accomplished 30-year career as a part of the Volvo organization. Most recently, he served as Chief Operating Officer at Volvo Powertrain. While in that role he led corporate operations worldwide, introducing Lean Strategy, reaching record production levels for heavy-duty engines and transmissions. Capitalizing on a strong track record in the commercial and industrial arena and his holistic business approach, Hungria progressed through the leadership ranks at Volvo serving in a variety of key management roles including Senior VP – Volvo Powertrain; VP – Purchasing & Supply Management at Volvo Construction Equipment; VP of Purchasing at Volvo/Mack North America; VP – Purchasing Bus North American – Volvo Bus Corporation; and Director, Product Development, Purchasing and Product Planning at Volvo de Brazil. He began his career at Volvo de Brazil as Manufacturing Manager – Trucks and Buses.

In connection to his functional roles, Hungria has led several Supplier and Technology events connected to the commercial vehicle industry. Lending his operational expertise, he is a frequent speaker at both trucking industry events and business leadership forums. A proponent of educational and community involvement, Hungria has lectured at the Supply Chain PhD Program at the University of Leuven in Belgium. He has been member of the Greater Hagerstown (Maryland) Committee and, in the last five years, led the corporate efforts with records contribution to the United Way in Washington County (Maryland). Hungria has also been a supporter of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra. Born and raised in Brazil, Hungria is a US citizen. He speaks and writes fluent Portuguese and is conversant in German, Spanish and Swedish in addition to English. Hungria holds a master’s of science degree in mechanical engineering from Universidade Federal de Paraná, Curitiba, Brazil as well as an MBA in process engineering from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Florianópolis, Brazil. Carlos and his wife, Ana Rosa, are the parents of two adult children, Anderson and Andressa.
