We are excited to bring Dr. Elizabeth Clawson, pediatric psychologist and Carol Elliott, pediatric occupational therapist to share their many years of experience in treating infants and children with complex feeding issues. Carol and Elizabeth share their 30 years of combined clinical practice and expertise in this unique feeding course. Together they have developed the TRansdisciplinary Effective Assessment and Treatment (TR-eat™) model. This model melds medical management, skill building and behavioral interventions to create a distinctive treatment method with outstanding outcomes for children with complex feeding problems. This dynamic course will cover innovative strategies, using video case examples, to address oral aversion, food refusal, poor transition onto solid foods, texture grading, learning to chew, self-feeding and feeding difficulties related to autism and picky eaters. Elizabeth Clawson, MS, PhD, LCP, HSPP is an internationally renowned pediatric clinical psychologist known for her extensive work in the field of pediatric feeding disorders. Dr. Clawson is a dynamic and engaging speaker who is able to combine her clinical expertise with research-based outcomes to support the intervention strategies presented in this course. Her clinical practice is at the Pediatric Feeding Program at St. Mary’s Center for Children in Evansville, Indiana. Dr. Clawson received her MS and PhD degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1996. She completed her internship training at the Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Pediatric Feeding Disorders Program. As behavioral director of the Children’s Feeding Program in Richmond, VA she collaborated with colleague Carol Elliott to develop the TR-eat™ model. She has presented and published extensively in the area of pediatrics. Carol Elliott, BS, OTR/L is an internationally recognized and energetic speaker. She is a master clinician at Children’s Feeding Program at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, Virginia. Carol has worked in the area of Pediatric Occupational Therapy since 1987 after receiving her degree at Elizabethtown College, Elizabethtown, PA. Carol has devoted the past 13 years developing and implementing treatment techniques utilized in the TR-eat™ Model for children. She provides treatment for infants through teenagers both in an outpatient clinic setting and as part of the Intensive Day Feeding Program. Along with her full-time clinical practice, she has published multiple articles, conducted numerous presentations and has provided consultative services to other professionals and treatment centers in the area of pediatric feeding evaluation/treatment.

Intended Audience Occupational Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists, Psychologists, Nurses, Nutritionists, Dietitians, Early Intervention Specialists, Fellows, Pediatricians, Family Physicians and providers (e.g. Help Me Grow, county and state providers).

Objectives Upon completion of this two-day course, the participants will: • Identify the foundation of the TR-eat™ model. • Identify variables that produce complex pediatric feeding problems including: medical, moral motor and behavioral. • Explain feeding problems across developmental stages. • Explain the use of behavioral strategies including shaping, chaining and fading as a catalyst to enhance oral motor and therapeutic skill building. • Identify texture grading techniques and apply them to the process of making pureed table foods for children weaning from tube feedings and learning how to chew. • List three or more treatment strategies for “picky eaters,” including those with autism, using behavioral interventions. • Identify methods to improve problem solving skills through careful analysis to determine the most effective treatment plan to maximize desired outcomes.

How to Register Attendees are given the opportunity to register via the website www.NationwideChildrens.org/conferences or by completing the attached registration form. Please follow the instructions on the website carefully. Upon receipt of the registration fee each attendee will receive a registration confirmation. The registration fee for the conference includes educational materials, breakfast, lunch, and continuous snack/beverage breaks.

Cancellation Policy A refund, minus 30% for administrative costs, will be given for cancellations received in writing before April 24, 2015. After this date, no refund will be available. Nationwide Children’s Hospital reserves the right to cancel any program listed based upon enrollment or other contributing factors. Individuals who have enrolled will be notified at least one week in advance of a cancellation. Full tuition will be refunded.
