BERLIN 2016

ANNUAL CONVENTION 21- 23 SEPT EMBER LEADING EXECUTIVE EVENT FOR PT/MC INDUSTRY

AMESSAGEFROMTHELEADERS

Dear EPTDA members, Dear industry peers, Dear friends and colleagues, I am privileged to serve as EPTDA’s 2016 President and to invite you to a truly memorable destination. Once again, our Bureau and Convention Committee have worked hard to put together an Annual Convention programme that will bring value to every delegate on both a professional and a personal level. 2015 was another incredible year of growth, valuable partnerships, innovative new launches and strategic development for EPTDA. We successfully pursued our quest to build our membership, attracting 33 new member companies. Despite persistent social and political unrest in the world, despite subdued forecasts for the global economy and despite ongoing consolidations in the PT/ MC industry worldwide, EPTDA has continued to grow and deliver on its promises and its strategic priorities to: 1. Broaden and deepening EPTDA’s membership base; 2. Transform EPTDA into a community with full focus on modern communication; 3. Serve the end customer according to the highest standards; 4. Strengthen members to be successful, profitable and competitive; 5. Establish EPTDA as a mark of quality. 2016 is expected to be another year of repair, recovery, reform and risks for most countries. Market intelligence, quicker and more accurate trend analysis and instant information on the moves and grooves of the industry are critical if our members are to make decisions. In 2015 we announced our ambition to evolve from a networking organisation to a navigator organisation, helping our members and the PT/MC industry successfully steer through the choppy waters ahead of us.

Dear EPTDA Manufacturer Members,

At EPTDA Berlin 2016, we are looking forward to sharing our successes, our vision, our new initiatives and the progress made with the strategic roadmap to help us tackle the challenges of a highly fragile, ever-changing and digital/shared economy. EPTDA has grown to become one of the most respected and admired names in the industry worldwide. I was very proud of the recognition we received from our international colleagues at the PTDA Industry Summit in the United States (Chicago) last year. I am confident that with the incredible support and loyalty of our members, the passion of our volunteers and the hard work of our Bureau team , we are destined to thrive and strive. I look forward to welcoming you, your partners, your advisors, your colleagues, your loved ones – business and personal – to a spectacular ‘all-star’ celebration in Berlin. Be prepared to be delighted and surprised. Berlin is one city you cannot afford not to meet and fall in love with.

Curt Carlsson EPTDA President CEO, Nomo Kullager AB, Sweden

On behalf of the leaders of EPTDA, the leading association in the PT/MC industry in the EMEA region, I am proud and privileged to welcome the entire Manufacturer community to the 2016 Annual Convention in Berlin. For an association that is built on strong heritage, valuable partnerships and a vibrant future, it is only natural that we chose a city – a multicultural metropolis and historic landmark that is über-rich in art, architecture, lifestyle, fashion and nightlife – to be our ultimate destination in 2016. We look forward to hosting you at a rather unusual hotel, Estrel Berlin, Germany’s largest hotel, providing the EPTDA community with ample space to create, craft, capture and capitalise on new opportunities. And opportunities are plentiful… with a community that now comprises 250+ leading companies employing 300,000 employees in more than 30 countries from Europe, the Middle East and Africa, representing over 30 billion euros in sales. And as Demosthenes (a Greek statesman) said, ‘Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises’. The goal we set for ourselves for this year’s convention is to strengthen and improve our role in the industrial distribution channel, enabling our companies to be more competitive and to become more successful and profitable. My invitation is extended especially to your participation in the effective MD-IDEX (Manufacturer-Distributor Idea Exchange) formula. It is the perfect opportunity to meet reference distributors and collaborate with them personally, while working together to create a strategy and partnership. So grab the opportunity! Be part of a top-level community characterised by integrity, honesty and fairness – and take your business to the next level of success and recognition. Carlo Rondelli EPTDA Manufacturer Council & Convention Chair Distribution Corporate Sales Manager, Bonfiglioli Riduttori, Italy

...Ich bin ein Berliner... I am a citizen of Berlin...: this powerful quote from US President John F. Kennedy in a June 1963 speech underlining the support of the United States for West Germany echoes in the hearts and minds of anyone who appreciates history. The speech was both a significant moment in the Cold War and a high point of the New Frontier. And as we – individuals, professionals in the PT/MC industry and global leaders – move to explore new frontiers of our own, it is a remarkable occasion to meet in the historic city of Berlin. As wise men and women say, history is important because it tells us how we got where we are. And personally I am incredibly proud of the EPTDA’s history and the point we have reached today. Not just in terms of numbers of members and the countries, businesses or revenues we represent, but also because of the strength of the personal relationships that make up this community. We are strong because we stand united, we flourish because we strive for ethical business practices and we lead because we promote diversity – of people, of ideas and of geographical representation. In Berlin, we will showcase the best of this powerful community. You can look forward to a highly professionally organised industry summit of leading PT/MC executives, a selection of global thought leaders, a spectacular social programme and a series of informal and formal networking opportunities to drive your business and personal growth forward. You can look forward to three inspirational days that will take you out of your comfort zone to challenge the status quo, open you up to new thinking and give you an opportunity to review the latest market trends and form a 360° view of the vast array of possibilities available. We look forward to welcoming you in Berlin. Hans Hanegreefs EPTDA Executive Vice President

RASMUS ANKERSEN

Opening Keynote Address How To Create Hunger In Paradise?

Rasmus Ankersen is a bestselling author, an entrepreneur, a speaker on performance development and a trusted advisor to businesses and athletes around the world. He is also Chairman of FC Midtjylland, the current Danish League champions, and holds the position of Co-Director of Football at Brentford FC in the UK. Both are known as being amongst Europe’s most innovative football clubs, especially recognised for their use of big data to drive decision-making. With his book ‘The Gold Mine Effect’, Rasmus has taken another step into the secrets of high performance, becoming the only expert on the subject who has literally lived and trained with the best athletes on the planet. ‘The Gold Mine Effect’ has now been published in more than 40 countries. Over the past few years, Rasmus has been hired to share his research on highperformance cultures by global brands such as LEGO, Google, Boston Consulting Group, IKEA, Nasdaq, Ernst & Young and many more. His latest book, ‘Hunger in Paradise’, came out in 2015. At the heart of success lies the reason for failure. While we talk

a lot about how to achieve success, we talk way too little about the consequences of success. About the complacency, arrogance and the fear of losing it all again, which often follow as a shadow of success. Success produces complacency. It happens to individuals, companies and nations. But how do you stay humble when the company cashes in record profits, and how do you provide people with the feeling that they are standing on a burning platform when there are no flames in sight? Or put it in another way: How do you create hunger in paradise? Over the past years Rasmus has travelled the world to hunt for the answers to these questions. Based on real case stories about Apple, LEGO, Blockbuster, Manchester United, Southwest Airlines, Restaurant NOMA and Nokia, Rasmus will present the four lessons we need to learn: Never Trust Your Success; Burn Your Trophies; If It Ain’t Broken, Consider Breaking It and Kill The Illusion of Perfect Conditions. By putting these lessons into practice, we can avoid becoming another victim of complacency.

STAN SCHNEIDER NexGen Seminar

How the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) Is Transforming Industrial Systems Stan Schneider is CEO of Real-Time Innovations (RTI), the Industrial Internet of Things connectivity platform company. RTI is the largest embedded middleware vendor, with an extensive footprint in all areas of the Industrial Internet of Things, including Energy, Medical, Automotive, Transportation, Defense, and Industrial Control. Appinions recently named RTI the ‘most influential’ company in the Industrial Internet of Things in an article published in Forbes and Reuters.

IT. The CEO of General Electric famously said: ‘If you go to bed as an industrial manufacturer, you will wake up as a software and analytics company’.

Stan Scheider is the small company representative on the Industrial Internet Consortium Steering Committee. The goal of the IIC is to develop, test, and promote the standards that are crucial to the success of the next industrial revolution. Stan, a BS and MS graduate from the University of Michigan and a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Stanford University, serves on the advisory boards for Smart Industry and IoT Solutions World Congress. Embedded Computing Design Magazine presented Stan the Top Embedded Innovator Award for 2015.

This change will directly transform the Power Transmission and Motion Control (PT/MC) industries. With intelligence, PT and MC components will become parts of much more sophisticated, connected systems. This talk will present a glimpse of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) disruption by exploring distributed control for wind turbine farms, advanced mining systems, automated motion control for oil drilling rigs, and huge industrial SCADA systems. With the right strategy, the IIoT offers great opportunity to PT & MC vendors.

The Internet changed banking, retail, and travel agencies. It created huge new companies and ended many others. But it didn’t touch most industrial applications. Factories, plants, hospitals, and power systems operate today the same way they did 20 years ago. That is changing now. Gartner, the analyst firm, predicts that the ‘smart machine era’ will be the most disruptive in the history of

Intelligent distributed systems will fundamentally transform our world. The enabling technology is a common architecture that bridges sensor to cloud, interoperates between vendors, and spans industries. And that technology is here now.

The talk will also present the role of the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC), ground zero of the IIoT ecosystem. This rapidly-growing alliance of over 200 companies is defining architecture, early standards, and testbed programs for the IIoT. Attend to better understand the leading edge of technology, its likely impact on your business, and how to best navigate this new age.

S E The Manufacturer-Distributor Idea Exchange (MD-IDEX) is consistently recognised as the most tangible and valuable feature of the EPTDA Annual Convention in terms of return on investment. These formal sessions provide a powerful, effective and efficient meeting environment, where distributors and manufacturers can book up to 14 B2B

meetings (per table) with decision-making executives, and potentially develop new partnerships. Participants can discuss new product lines, market information and opportunities or any other topic of mutual interest. The MD-IDEX meeting tables are hosted by EPTDA Manufacturer Members only, and visited by participating distributors.

Welcome Reception & Dinner

First Timer / New Distributor Reception

Reconnect with your peers and friends and meet new colleagues in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere while enjoying a carefully selected menu, designed to satisfy the most refined culinary tastes.

Special attention is given to those who attend the Annual Convention for the first time. Accompanied by their designated ‘buddy’, someone who is an existing member or a convention host, first timers are invited to attend the First Timer / New Distributor reception. This is the perfect opportunity to become acquainted with EPTDA and its members and, most of all, to learn about the benefits of joining our Association.

The EPTDA Berlin 2016 Welcome Reception & Dinner will be hosted at the Estrel Berlin, Germany’s largest hotel and Europe’s largest convention, entertainment and hotel complex.

Grand Finale and Closing Dinner After three intensive days of meetings, exchanging ideas and fruitful networking, all delegates – together with their spouses/ partners – are invited to celebrate the success of the 2016 convention in the exciting, typical Berlin-style surroundings of the Postbahnhof. In this listed building, located a few metres from the Berlin Wall Gallery, our guests will enjoy the finest dining experience in a beautiful setting and some surprising entertainment acts.

D2D MEETING SESSIONS: A chance for distributors to have B2B meetings with their peers EPTDA is primarily an association for distributors in the Power Transmission and Motion Control (PT/MC) industry. It is a platform where distributors can share ideas and best practices, and also discuss and find solutions to specific issues they have to deal with on a daily basis. After initial success at EPTDA Barcelona 2015, EPTDA is once again facilitating opportunities for distributors to openly exchange ideas with each other during the D2D meeting sessions.

The D2D meetings have the same format and structure as the successful MD-IDEX sessions and distributors who wish to book a table or visit other distributors at their tables will benefit from an online advance booking system, which is available to all distributors prior to the Annual Convention. This will enable them to schedule meetings and create their agendas.

In 1842, today’s railway station was put into operation under the name Frankfurter Bahnhof, but at the end of the 19th century it was renamed Schlesischer Bahnhof and rebuilt as a transit station. During the GDR era it was known as Ostbahnhof, becoming East Berlin’s central station, and is still an important traffic hub in the capital.

EPTDA makes ethical business one of its priorities, supporting the welfare of society. In 2016 EPTDA will continue its charitable commitment and partner with Die Arche Berlin (The Ark), a wellknown charity organisation that offers free meals, assistance with school work and after-school activities for children from low-income families in Berlin.

INFORMAL Distributor - Manufacturer (OPEN MD-IDEX) Meeting Session Parallel to the D2D meetings, informal distributor-manufacturer meeting sessions, or OPEN MD-IDEX, will be organised. During these sessions, distributors and manufacturers will be able to meet and interact in an informal setting, providing the opportunity to discuss topics such as business opportunities, ongoing business and trends in the industry

in a more relaxed and unrestrained manner. The informal distributor-manufacturer meeting sessions will not require prior reservation. This part of the Association’s convention programme represents an additional opportunity for distributors and manufacturers to network and socialise.

EXLUSIVELY FOR EPTDA MEMBERS ONLY Presidential Review & Annual Business Forum The Annual Business Forum (ABF) is the opportunity for our collective membership to reaffirm EPTDA’s direction, set in motion by the Association’s strategic plan. It is the general meeting (assembly) of all the serving members (‘active members’) of the Association, during which members review the activities of the past year, budgets and annual accounts, elect the new Board of Directors and vote on proposed amendments, to carry forward EPTDA’s programmes and services. Finally the Best EPTDA Promoter Awards ceremony and a moment to reflect and contribute to the future of EPTDA are also hosted during the ABF.
