Market share of feature films in cinemas in 2014 (%) In 2014, 16.3% of admissions were to see foreign-language films in their original version, 2.33 million admissions for programs of short films, 0.5% of admissions for non-feature films.
Exhibition: 5,653 screens On average, a screen registered 36,967 admissions, a theater 103,453 admissions and a multiplex (theaters with eight screens or more) 654,840 admissions in 2014. By the end of 2014, 100% of screens were equipped for 2K or 4K digital screening. At the end of December 2014, 1,187 active theaters had at least one 3D digital projector, i.e., 58.8% of the total number of theaters.

French household electronic equipment In 2014, 97.6% of French households had a TV set. The electronic equipment market in France has become broader with the growth of smartphones (up 7.5 points in one year to 51.2%) and tablets (up 7.4 points to 36.1%).

Cinema audience: 2/3 of the French Two thirds of French people aged 6 and over went to the cinema at least once in 2014, i.e. 39.2 million individuals (up 4.0%). People aged under 25 account for 31.3% of moviegoers, and the over-fifties represent 33.1%. 91.0% of 15-19 year-olds went to the cinema at least once in 2014. 52.6% of movie-goers are women. Each moviegoer went to the cinema 5.3 times one average. The audience is made up of 32.2% of cinema regulars, who go to the movies at least once a month and account for 71.3% of admissions.

Distribution: 7,035 films in the theaters In 2014, 7,035 films were screened in theaters, of which 663 were new releases. The new releases in 2014 included 212 dramas, 100 documentaries, 98 comedies, 74 comedy dramas and 29 animated films. On average, new films are released in 137 theaters. French films are released in 119 theaters in their first week, while American films are released in 258. 41 new releases are available in 3D.

Video: down by 10.4% to €1 billion Video sales (physical video media and VoD) dropped by 10.4% to €1.046 billion. Physical video media’s generated 76.2% of the video market. Physical video: €797.9 million market The physical video market shrunk by 14.1%. DVDs captured 76.4% of the market value. In 2014, films accounted for 60.1% of revenue from physical video media, and non-feature films represented 35.5%. French films generated 22.1% of revenue from films, and American films generated 64.7%. 9.5 million DVDs and Blu-ray discs of French films were sold in 2014.

Video on Demand: €250 million In 2014, 12,811 feature films were downloaded at least once, 941 more than in 2013. Feature films generated 75.6% of VoD revenue of the GfK panel. French films generated 36.4% of revenue from films, and American films generated 54.3%.
