frauentreffen Due to the fact that some of our members were overseas and quite a few otherwise engaged at this busy time of the year, a slightly depleted group of ladies congregated at Bettina’s home end of November for our Christmas braai. This, however, did nothing to lessen our great enjoyment of the occasion. Thoroughly appreciating the lovingly decorated tables, we quickly got stuck into the tasty sausages (expertly braaied by Astrid) as well as a great variety
of salads and breads with great gusto. For our dessert, Monika Martin had saved the beautifully decorated cake created by her daughter for her mum’s recent round birthday – thank you, Monika! We had also missed Gerda’s special birthday, so both ladies were serenaded and enjoyed their gifts of flowers. Once again: thank you so much Bettina, your hospitality is very much appreciated!

Santa Claus day, held on 4th December, also brought some of us ladies to Jonkershoek for our traditional Christmas Sale. Against all expectations, there was quite an array of goods for sale apart from the Swiss Christmas biscuits, and the table displaying the raffle prices was practically overflowing! As we had received a wonderful donation of wool earlier in the year, several members, especially Susi Gurtner, had been busy for months knitting and crocheting blankets. Many of them found buyers and the rest were eventually offered at reduced prices with the suggestion that they be donated to a charity, which turned out to be a great success. And so another year and another profitable sale are behind us, and we are most grateful to all the ladies who contributed to the various functions, but especially to our chairlady Therese, who tirelessly continues to organise our meetings and outings – THANK YOU!

The Caterer’s Corner Dear Members The New Year has kicked off and all the indulging of the past festive season is only a wonderful memory now! So let’s start making new and happy memories. Nicky and I, together with the Piroschka sisters; Inge & Jutta will put all our efforts together and spoil you on Thursdays and at every function that follows. We are very excited about the ideas that are bouncing off the pots and pans in the kitchen and trust that you will enjoy this new journey together with us. The club will remain open on a Thursday and Pensioners lunch will take place on the 1st Thursday of every month. Following is a brief introduction of Inge & Jutta Warm kitchen greetings, Nicky, Marcie, Inge & Jutta Inge und Jutta, stammen aus Frankfurt / Main und sind vor mehr als 15 Jahren aus beruflichen Gründen nach Südafrika gekommen. Obwohl die Schwestern aus andren Berufen kommen (Jutta ist Architektin und Inge arbeitete als Geschäftsführerin eines deutschen Chemiekonzerns, in Südafrika) haben sie nicht nur ihre Liebe zu dem schönen Land, seinen wunderbaren Menschen und den wilden Tieren Afrikas entdeckt, sondern auch ihre große Leidenschaft für gutes Essen und Kochen mit den wunderbaren Zutaten, die es nur hier am Kap gibt. Im Gepäck hatten sie viele alte Rezepte ihrer ungarischen Großmutter und der deutschen
Mutter, die sie geschickt mit der südafrikanischen Küche gepaart haben. Die Schwestern gründeten in Kapstadt ein „etwas anderes“ Catering-Unternehmen und haben damit großen Erfolg. Angeregt von den feinen Gewürzen der Region, die sie in die ihnen so vertrauten Speisen der europäischen Küche einfließen ließen, dem frischen Gemüse und dem ausgezeichneten Fleisch und Fisch, entstand ihr bis über Kapstadts Grenzen hinaus bekanntes CateringUnternehmen und Pop-Up Restaurant PIROSCHKA´S KITCHEN. Als die Schwestern dann zwei Kinder aus den Townships zu sich nahmen und die hohen Kosten von den Privatschulen auf sie zukamen, kam ihnen eine weitere Idee: „Wir backen und verkaufen Flammkuchen aka Tarte Flambée, ein 200 Jahre altes Rezept aus dem Elsass. Der Flammkuchen passte prima zum Wein und der Verkauf finanzierte schnell die Ausbildung der zwei Buben. Kaum ein Weinfest oder einer der vielen berühmten Märkte in der Kapregion verzichtet heute auf den köstlichen Flammkuchen der Cook Sisters, Inge und Jutta. Zahlreiche Catering Preise gewannen die zwei Schwestern, im vergangenen Jahr sogar den ersten Preis für „German Delicatessen“ auf dem SA Cheese Festival, dem größten Gourmet-Festival Südafrikas. Aber nicht nur in ihrer Poup-Küche in der Kapregion
zaubern Inge und Jutta ihre kulinarischen Köstlichkeiten, sondern sie nehmen ihre Gäste auch regelmäßig mit auf ihre Gourmet-Safaris mitten in die Wildnis Afrikas. Dort verwöhnen die Beiden ihre Besucher aus nah und fern mit ausgesuchten Speisen unter dem endlosen afrikanischen Sternenhimmel. Wir freuen uns darauf, Euch kennenzulernen und ab dem 9. Februar 2017 jeweils donnerstags ab 17.00 Uhr und an besonderen Fest- und Feiertagen Eure Gastgeber im Schweizer Club sein dürfen. Die Auslandschweizer in Mexiko und Australien werden ihre Delegierten erstmals online wählen können. Genau wie die Mitglieder der Bundesversammlung werden auch die Delegierten des Die AuslandschweizerAuslandschweizerrats für Organisation (ASO) eine vierjährige Amtsdauer vertritt die Interessen der gewählt. Mit dem Ende der Auslandschweizerinnen und laufenden Amtsperiode finden Auslandschweizer in der 2017 weltweit Neuwahlen Schweiz. Sie informiert die der 120 Vertreterinnen und Landsleute im Ausland über Vertreter der ausserhalb der das Geschehen in der Schweiz Landesgrenzen ansässigen und bietet ihnen eine breite Schweizergemeinschaft Palette von Dienstleistungen statt. Gewählt wird zwischen an. Januar und Juni 2017. Mit der Organisation und Die ASO wird von rund 750 Beaufsichtigung der Wahlen Schweizervereinen und werden die verschiedene, schweizerischen Institutionen in rund um den Erdball aller Welt getragen. Im Oktober und November 2016 führte die AuslandschweizerOrganisation eine Umfrage unter 25 Bankinstituten zu den Konditionen für Auslandschweizer durch. 21 Banken nahmen an der Umfrage teil. Nicht beteiligt haben sich die Banca dello Stato del Ticino, Raiffeisen, UBS und Credit Suisse. Praktisch alle befragten Bankinstitute gaben an, dass sie die Gebühren für Auslandskunden ab dem 1. Januar 2017 anheben werden. Zur Begründung verwiesen sie auf das Inkrafttreten des automatischen Informationsaustauschs. So müssen die Banken neue Verfahren einführen, um die Verpflichtungen aus dem Abkommen über den automatischen Informationsaustausch zu erfüllen. On an extremely windy day 16 shooters braved the conditions to compete for the ‘President Mettler’ Cup, a knockout competition. Lots were drawn and shooters were paired off. Very good results were achieved in spite of the wind. As luck would have it, Heinz Mettler had the second highest score [38/40] in the opening round only to lose against Charles Kriel with 39! In 30 shoot-offs we had 15 scores of 37 or more [1x39/40, 3x38 and 11x37]. In the 2nd sustained fire section Charles’s three shots in the “5” could have been covered by two R5 coins! In the final Daniel Siegenthaler beat Paul Schweizer. The year-end shoot was on a hot day at ‘Good Hope’ near Atlantis, followed by a fish-braai. 18 shooters did 5 shots each from prone at 300 metres, sitting at 200m, kneeling at 100m and standing at 50 metres. The top 3 spots were claimed by our Navy members (who regularly shoot from standing and kneeling positions), Charles Kriel winning the ‘Vier Hürden’ trophy from Graham Butler with Eric Fraser in 3rd place. Behrendt filled places 4 to 6. Over 50 members with family and friends filled the Swiss Social & Sports Club for the very successful and enjoyable year-end dinner on the evening of 16 December. Past president and honorary member Hans Baumberger sadly passed away on 9th January. He was 86. Hans was an entrepreneur and had a transport company. At one time he was a big game hunter in Botswana. Our condolences to his daughters, family and friends.
