Manitoba National Triathlon Centre 2015 AGM Report Submitted by: Gary Pallett Our Mission: To develop elite athletes and coaches for major international games, world championships, national championships, and major nationals games by providing a holistic approach to sport. Our Performance Enhancement Team (PET): Head Coach – Gary Pallett Assistant Swim Coach – Craig McCormick Sport Scientist Testing – Daryl Hurrie Sport Psychology – Adrienne Leslie-Toogood Strength & Conditioning Specialist – Adam Toffan Nutritionist - Jorie Jansen Athletic Therapist / Massage Therapist – Byron Bahniuk Our Partners: Triathlon Manitoba Canadian Sport Centre – Manitoba (CSCM) Sport Manitoba

Our Program:  The MNTC has been in operation for fifteen years. During this time our program has put more junior athletes on the Junior Worlds Teams than any other program in the country. Two of the MNTC alumni athletes Sarah Anne Brault and Tyler Mislawchuk have placed top 10 in World Triathlon Series Events.  Focus for most athletes in the program was the 2015 Western Canada Games and 2015 Junior / Youth National Series.  The MNTC membership during the season was 9 athletes (5 junior and 4 youth). Quinn Desrochers and Adam Naylor from Windburn were selected for the 2015 WCSG team, therefore, they both trained with MNTC over the summer. 2015 International Race Highlights:  Kyla Roy placed 19th in the junior elite race at the 2015 World Triathlon Championships in Chicago.  Kyla Roy won the Edmonton CAMTRI Triathlon Junior America Cup (Junior Women's race). Darian Hole placed 20th in the junior men's event.  Kyla Roy placed 11th at the 2015 Monterrey CAMTRI Triathlon American Championships (Junior Women's race). Darian Hole placed 24th in the junior men's event.  Kyla Roy placed 4th at the 2015 Sarasota CAMTRI Triathlon Junior North American Championships (Junior Women's race). Darian Hole placed 16th in the junior men's event.  Kyla Roy placed 14th at the 2015 Clermont CAMTRI Sprint Triathlon American Cup (Elite Women's race).  Kyla Roy finished the year 4th in the Pan American Female Junior Rankings. Darian Hole finished the year ranked 34th in the Pan American Male Junior Rankings. 2015 National Junior / Youth Series Highlights:  Kyla Roy won the National Junior Series as well as the National Junior Championships. She finished on the podium in all 4 series events winning 2, placing 2nd and 3rd in the other 2 events.  Darian Hole placed 5th overall in the Triathlon Canada National Junior Series Male Rankings.  Payton Ryz won the Triathlon Canada Youth National Championships. She also won the 2 other National Youth events she competed in.  Caitlyn Roy placed 2nd in the Triathlon Canada Youth National Championships. She also placed 2nd in the other 3 National Youth events.

 2015 Western Canada Games Highlights: Athlete Selection Committee for Games –Cory Smith, Erin Schinkel, Adrienne LeslieTogood. o Athletes selected to represent MB in Triathlon: Darian Hole, Quinn Desrochers, Adam Naylor, Kyla Roy, Caitlyn Roy, Payton Ryz. Alternates: Corey Arsenault, Ashlyn Cortvriendt, Claire Healy. o Team Coach – Gary Pallett. Team Manager – Chelsea Wardrope. Mission Staff – Seema Saini. o Kyla Roy won the Gold medal, Payton Ryz won the Silver medal and Caitlyn Roy placed 4th in the Individual female race. o Darian Hole won the Bronze medal in the Individual male race. o Manitoba won the Gold medal in the women's team relay. o Manitoba won the Bronze medal in the men's team relay. o Manitoba won the Silver medal in the mixed team relay. o Overall Manitoba won more medals at the Games than any other Province in the sport of Triathlon. Unfortunately our loss in the mixed relay to BC caused us to lose the team title. o Triathlon was Manitoba’s top performing sport in terms of both flag points and in terms of medals per sport at the Games. Training Camps:  MNTC conducted a successful fifteen day training camp in Tucson, AZ from March 27th to April 10th, 2015. The camp was conducted with the Saskatchewan Triathlon Centre. Manitoba brought 9 athletes to the camp.  MNTC also partnered with Saskatchewan to run 2 other shorter Western Canada Games prep camps. The first in November 2014 and the final one in July 2015. Challenges:  Due to Triathlon Manitoba’s finances, the coach was unable to travel to the Pan American Junior Championships. The absence of the coach possibly contributed to poorer than expected performances at the event. We need to ensure if we have junior athletes representing Manitoba at the North American and Pan American Championships we send a coach to ensure their safety particularly when the event is outside of Canada.  In the fall we will be combining the MNTC program and the Youth Team into a one program model. This change will create a few opportunities and even more challenges. Although we

have performed extremely well from a performance perspective over the past 15 years we have always done so with an extremely low number of younger athletes doing the sport. Athletes will usually only join a team if they try the sport and find they enjoy doing it. Trying to recruit athletes into our development program who have never tried a triathlon has failed to deliver program numbers to balance predicted budgets. If we want to increase development program numbers we have to be more aggressive in both offering youth events and in increasing number of younger athletes trying a race. If we increase numbers in these areas we can increase our development program numbers.  Seek sponsors, fundraise as additional sources of revenue. Program fee will increase for 201516 from $100.00 p/mth to $175.00 p/mth to offset facility fee increases.
