Why Start Early? The richer the music environment a child inhabits, the richer the brain network. ■

Research shows that the early years are the most significant time in a human life. Music, at a very young age, has a dramatic impact on a child’s BRAINPOWER. Donna Brink Fox, PhD, Eastman School of Music

Where’s the Bunny?

Magic Trick I can do a magic trick, if you sing the magic word…..Please! Down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down.

Hide it!

Here is a bunny with ears so funny, And here is his hole in the ground. A noise he hears he sticks up his ears And jumps into the hole in the ground Bunny, bunny, where are you? Here I am, here I am, how do you do?

Sing hello to your bunny friends! Bunnies are hungry! What do you think they want to eat? Sing what you would like. Rodney the Rabbit! Rodney the rabbit is plump, plump, plump (tap tummy 3X) He warns of danger with a thump, thump, thump (stamp foot 3X) Rodney the rabbit likes to jump jump jump (jump 3X) Be careful Rodney, don’t bump bump bump! (move hips 3X) Jump jump jump, Jump jump jump Be careful Rodney don’t bump bump bump! ■Perfect precursor to reading and writing! Repetitive Rhyming Words! ■Use body percussion or percussion instruments to play on the repeated words.

Happiness and Joy! ■ Increased participation results when props and puppets are used and when activities are presented in a game-like atmosphere. (Little Clown) ■ Speech comes faster and is clearer when done with lots of repetition, through rhythmic chants, songs and rhymes. ■ Enunciation improves, even stuttering disappears when language is presented rhythmically ■ Speech delays and difficulties are improved when language is encouraged through singing, rhyming, chanting and even echoing.
