SERIES EVENTS 2013 VIRGIN ISLANDS SAILING SERIES

The International Melges 32 Class Association cordially invites Melges 32s worldwide to participate in the 2013 Virgin Islands Sailing Series (M32VISS). The 2013 M32VISS is an exciting, all new winter/spring racing series designed to provide a high level of sailing venue diversity and competition. The Series consists of three sanctioned events in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands — February 21-24, March 22-24, April 26-28, and one non-sanctioned event on March 29-31. Special shipping and logistics packages have been organized for boats to ship directly from Florida following Key West Race Week 2013. Discounted accommodation options have also been provided for each event.

INTRODUCTION 2013 VIRGIN ISLANDS SAILING SERIES

This document contains comprehensive information about the 2013 Virgin Islands Sailing Series (VISS), including shipping, event hosting, accommodations and dockage. Owners and boat captains can plan and confirm participation based on the information provided within this document. Teams are encouraged to confirm attendance as soon as possible, so that further event planning can be coordinated on an accurate estimate of entrants. Following the very successful VISS promotional reception at the 2012 U.S. National Championship in Newport, the IM32CA is pleased to inform that thus far, there has been an overwhelming response to the VISS, with an initial count of 20+ boats indicating participation. As we approach the 2012 Melges 32 World Championship taking place in September, it is requested that teams consider their plans for the upcoming season and anticipate a very enjoyable and successful inaugural Melges 32 Virgin Islands Sailing Series.

Regatta • 40th Annual International Rolex Regatta (the original Rolex sailing event worldwide) • Usually 75-100 boats, from beach cats to TP52’s to maxi yachts. • The entire event is based out of the St. Thomas Yacht Club (STYC) in Cowpet Bay. • All regatta activity is based out of the STYC, with food, drinks, music, and dancing nightly. • The regatta format consists of buoy and coastal courses with several races each day. • The Melges 32 will have a separate class, start, and can select the type of courses they desire. • www.rolexcupregatta.com • See Appendix B for photos & map of area Logistics Flights • From US: Over ten direct flights daily to St. Thomas (STT) from major US cities (Miami, New York, Atlanta, Washington, Boston, etc.) • From Europe: Fly either via Miami, New York, Atlanta, St. Maarten or San Juan Moorings and Dockage • Regatta participants either anchor or use moorings in Cowpet Bay or Christmas Cove. Accommodations A catamaran, hotel, or a combination of the two is recommended Catamaran Using a catamaran for accommodation is a great way to enjoy Caribbean regattas. They provide on-site accommodation, the ability to tie the race boat along-side, deck space for sails and gear, and a perfect place to relax and swim after racing.
