Overview Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. For professionals participating in the design and construction phases of high-performance, healthful, durable, affordable, and environmentally sound commercial, institutional, and high-rise residential buildings, the LEED AP Building Design + Construction (BD+C) exam is designed to measure your knowledge and skill in understanding the LEED Rating System and ability to facilitate the project certification process. This course helps participants understand and prepare for the LEED AP BD+C exam. Additionally, the course will provide a focused view on the new requirements for Designers and Contractors and will address the challenges that they face while executing LEED projects within the Middle East. A bonus session will explore how to effectively utilize LEED practices as a Project Manager for LEED Projects.

Course Objectives This course will be an introduction to the concepts of sustainable, high performance green buildings, as well as methods for designing, constructing and evaluating them. The emphasis will be on reviewing the fundamentals of the LEED 2009 for New Construction and Major Renovations Rating System and the relevant LEED certification process as per LEED Version-3 requirements. Accordingly, the course will provide key preparatory information about the needed tools and technical expertise for taking both the LEED Green Associate exam (part 1) and the LEED AP BD+C specialty exam (part 2). Moreover, the course will provide project teams with the necessary procedures and technical tools for planning, designing and constructing LEED certified projects.

Course Director Jourdan Younis BSCM (Hons), CMAA, LEED® AP Associate-UAE Jourdan Younis has over 10 years of experience in the fields of sustainable development, finance and cleantech.  His MBA from London Business School and Bachelor of Science from Cal Poly are coupled with several years of sustainability consultancy experience (LEED & Estidama).  He has launched and developed sustainability departments in both the USA and the UAE.  His project portfolio includes commissions ranging from a multi-billion USD financial center development in the UAE to the training of over 1,000 professionals in multiple facets of sustainability and green investments. Mr. Younis is currently the Managing Director for Alpin, Limited (Formerly Technical Director – Oger International) and teaches Estidama’s Pearl Rating System for the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council and LEED for the American University of Sharjah and AMIDEAST.

Certificate Participants who attend and complete the course obtain two Certificates of Accomplishment: one from AUS and one from AMIDEAST. The certificate awarded form AUS is signed by the university’s Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management. The certificate awarded from AMIDEAST is signed by the AMIDEAST Country Director.

Course Fee The course fee includes course attendance, course material, coffee breaks and snacks, and Certificates of Accomplishment. Public Fee, AED 3,000 Early Bird Fee (for registrations received one month before course starts): AED 2,750 Groups of 2 or more or AUS Alumni: AED 2,600 per person Registration closes two weeks before the first day of class. Accommodation is not included in course fees. However, any accommodation required can be arranged by AMIDEAST/AUS at the time of booking with special discounted rates. Driver service from the hotel to AUS and back can be provided for participants staying in the recommended hotel (pick up and drop off timings are fixed).
