COURSE INFORMATION -- FOR ALL STUDENTS --

Classes are held from Monday to Friday. The average class size is 8 students. We never exceed 10 students per class, which guarantees a high level of teaching quality and a friendly classroom atmosphere. Classes are taught entirely in French, and all of our teachers are native French speakers who hold a professional master’s degree in French as a Foreign Language (Master 1 or Master 2) and have considerable teaching experience. Upon arrival, you will receive the LSF Roadbook, which will help you improve your French from day to day and make the most of your time at LSF and in Montpellier. To continue practising your French after class, you will have access to our teaching blog (news, culture, events) and our internal social network, through which you’ll be able to interact with your teachers and the other students at LSF. Everything you write will be corrected by our teachers, helping you make progress every day. You’ll also be able to reinforce your knowledge of French (in particular grammar and vocabulary) through our online course platform, which provides you with self-correcting exercises, lesson summaries and documents used in class. If you have difficulty with a concept taught in class, you will have access to free tutoring with an LSF teacher to help you overcome any obstacles. Our teaching staff is available and ready to answer any questions you may have about your level or your French course.

STANDARD: From an introduction to fluency in French •

20 group lessons of 45 minutes each = 15 hours of classes per week. 10 students maximum per class.

The goal of this course is to provide you with the vocabulary and grammar essential to communicating in French by working on the five skills necessary for learning a language: o o o o o

oral comprehension oral production oral interaction written comprehension written production.

To reach these goals (interaction based on daily life and the news, sharing experiences and opinions), our teachers use a wide variety of teaching aids and the latest digital technology and computer equipment, while introducing you to the cultural and social specificities of France and the French-speaking world and major themes in current events. Every week, LSF provides you with an assessment test so that you can measure your progress and memorise the main points of the week’s lessons. For each level, LSF has put together a programme based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*, allowing you to acquire the speech acts essential to understanding and being understood in French. The detailed programmes are available for reference at the school. (* The CEFR defines methods for learning, teaching and assessing a language and proposes a standardised scale of skills divided into 6 levels.)

INTENSIVE 20+6: Take your oral skills to the next level • •

In addition to the standard morning lessons, you will spend two afternoons per week in class. 20 group lessons of 45 minutes each (15h) + 6 group lessons of 45 minutes each two afternoons per week (4h30) = 19h30 of classes per week. 10 students maximum per class.

Our intensive courses are aimed at perfecting your oral skills in French (oral comprehension, production and interaction). All of our intensive courses are designed using interactive digital screens and take place in classrooms equipped with these screens, which means your lessons will be modern, dynamic, lively and, of course, interactive. All the documents used are taken from French-speaking media (videos, radio programmes, reports) and stimulate interaction, discussion and debate. There is no grammar taught in this course, but you will reuse and improve the grammatical tools developed in the standard course: your professor is there to guide you, correct any errors and help you improve your oral communication skills in French. INTENSIVE 20+10: A different way to improve your French •

In addition to the standard morning lessons, you will spend three afternoons per week in class: two afternoons that correspond to the description of the 20+6 intensive course and a third afternoon in the form of a workshop. 20 group lessons of 45 minutes each (15h) + 6 group lessons of 45 minutes each two afternoons per week (4h30) + 1 group workshop on a third afternoon (4 lessons: 3h) = 22h30 of classes per week.

The goal of the workshop is to make you speak more while learning in a different way. LSF offers workshops on various topics: theatre, cinema, video, photography, poetry, comic books, literature, writing, cuisine, songs, meditation, French expressions, cultural outings, meetings, conferences, etc. ONE-TO-ONE LESSONS: Tailored to your specific needs We offer three private lesson packages. Private lessons let you work on specific areas and are designed around your specific needs and expectations. Your teacher adapts to your needs, helping, advising and correcting in a totally customised manner. Before your arrival, you fill out a form to tell us about your expectations and your specific needs.

COMBINED 20 + 5 •

In addition to the standard morning lessons, you will have 5 private lessons over two afternoons.

20 group lessons of 45 minutes each (15h) + 5 private lessons of 45 minutes each (3h45) = 18h45 of classes per week.

This formula lets you work on specific areas and meets your specific needs and expectations (enriching your vocabulary, improving grammar, phonetics…). COMBINED 20 +10 •

In addition to the standard morning lessons, you will have 10 private lessons over three or four afternoons.

20 group lessons of 45 minutes each (15h) + 10 private lessons of 45 minutes each (7h30) = 22h30 of classes per week.

This formula is particularly adapted to students learning French for professional reasons (medicine, hospitality industry, business French, diplomacy, job interviews, TCF, DFP…). CUSTOM ONE-TO-ONE LESSONS You decide on the number of lessons and the content to create a programme totally suited to your needs. Before arrival, you fill out a form to tell us your needs, and you can send us any specific document on which you would like to work. A LEVEL / AS LEVEL PREPARATION The A/AS Level preparation programme includes 26 group lessons per week, focused on preparation for the exams, and a rich programme of tourist and cultural activities. The course content is perfectly suited to the specifics of A/AS Level exams. You will work on the 4 skills evaluated on exam day: oral comprehension, written comprehension, oral production and written production. You will study the methodology, vocabulary and themes specific to these exams. Before your arrival, you fill out a form to tell your teachers about your expectations and your specific needs. Additional private lessons can be added upon request. * If there are not enough students, the students preparing for A Levels or AS Levels will attend standard lessons (20 lessons of 45 minutes each = 15 hours of classes) and receive 6 intensive exam preparation lessons two afternoons per week (6 lessons = 4h30 of classes).

DELF/DALF PREPARATION COURSES: Official certification for your proficiency in French •

Our DELF/DALF preparation courses last five weeks. In addition to the standard classes, you have 6 specific lessons two afternoons per week.

20 group lessons of 45 minutes each (15h) + 6 group lessons of 45 minutes each (4h30) = 19h30 of classes per week.

The DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) and DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) are official diplomas issued by the CIEP (Centre international d'études pédagogiques) and the French Ministry of National Education. LSF offers preparation courses for B1 and B2 DELF exams and C1 and C2 DALF exams. These diplomas are internationally recognised and valid for life. They can help you find a job around the world and let you enrol in French universities (B2, C1 diplomas) and grandes écoles (engineering, business). They are often required for enrolment in other Francophone universities (Switzerland, Belgium, Canada). In the preparation course, you study the methodology, vocabulary and themes specific to these exams while improving your knowledge of grammar and ability to communicate. You work on and develop the 4 skills that will be tested on exam day: oral comprehension, written comprehension, oral production and written production. Practice exams are organised by the teachers at LSF to better prepare you for the exam. FRENCH AND COOKING • •

In addition to the standard classes, you take cooking lessons with a chef two afternoons per week. 20 group lessons of 45 minutes each (15h) + 2 group cooking lessons (2 x 3 hours)

French & Cooking courses are the ideal formula for students wishing to perfect their French while indulging in the pleasures of the French kitchen and discovering the secrets of France’s world-famous cuisine. This programme is available year-round to all French levels and all cooking levels (except the weeks of 10 April, 31 July, 7 August, 14 August and 25 December). In the French lessons, there is an average of 8 students per class (10 maximum). Our chef Armand, a renowned professional with forty years of experience, invites students into the kitchens of his restaurant (13 students maximum per class). The lessons take place in a very well-equipped professional kitchen located only 10 minutes from LSF on foot. With Armand’s dynamic and creative teaching style, students will prepare a full meal that they will then have the pleasure of enjoying together. The cooking classes at LSF are a great way to learn French and discover France’s celebrated cuisine.

FRENCH COURSES FOR TEACHERS: Strive for perfection •

30 group lessons of 45 minutes each = 22h30 of classes per week

LSF offers a special training programme for French teachers not from France (primary school, secondary school, high school, university). The minimum level required for course participants is CEFR B1. The goal of this course is to give you the tools to develop the written and oral proficiency of your students while providing you with new lesson planning techniques. We use the taskbased learning approach, through which the students develop the five CEFR skills (oral production, written production, oral comprehension, written comprehension, oral interaction). The activities offered not only let students discover the French language and culture, but also facilitate the teaching of specific grammar points. For each grammar point judged to be essential, we set up activities that allow students to put the concept to use. We offer a range of activities all based on authentic documents (media, press, photographs, films, Internet, songs, games…) and intended for non-Francophone students from the beginner (A1) to the C1 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). You will leave with an arsenal of ready-to-use activities corresponding to the level you teach. The course includes the following modules: ● Summary of the CEFR ● Phonetics ● Literature for children and young adults ● Resources (games, methods, media, social networks, digital tools) ● Interactive activities (IWB, interactive screens) ● Collaborative grammar ● Turning written and oral documents into learning tools ● Developing students’ written and oral proficiency ● Getting students involved and motivated ● Student assessment and self-assessment. These modules are dynamic and cooperative: participation and the sharing of experiences and teaching practices are emphasised. Our French courses for teachers take place in a classroom equipped with an interactive digital screen, unique in Montpellier.

AU PAIR COURSE: •

6 group lessons of 45 minutes each, two afternoons per week = 4h30

This course is adapted to the rhythm and to the professional and family obligations of au pairs. The goal of this course is to develop your oral proficiency and give you the cultural knowledge essential to living and working in a French-speaking environment. Our au pair courses will help you perfect your oral skills in French (oral comprehension, production and interaction). All of our au pair courses are designed using interactive digital screens and take place in classrooms equipped with these screens, which means your lessons will be modern, dynamic, lively and, of course, interactive. You will have classes with other LSF students, allowing you to meet students from all over the world and discover new cultures. All the documents used are taken from French-speaking media (videos, radio programmes, reports) and stimulate interaction, discussion and debate. There is no grammar taught in this course, but you will reuse and improve your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary in realistic situations, and your teacher will be there to guide you, correct any errors and help you improve your oral skills in French. To really improve, you must continue practising your French on your own after class. You can develop your writing skills (written production and interaction) on our teaching blog, and our online course platform gives you access to grammar lessons and self-correcting exercises.

Terms and Conditions – New LSF In registering with us, you accept the following Terms and Conditions. Courses The minimum age for adult French language courses at NEW LSF is 16. The company will not refund any monies for a client who applies for a course requiring a specific level and is then found to be unable to join the course after the initial level test. In this case, the client will be offered a suitable alternative by the company and any difference in price (if the alternative course is less expensive) will be refunded by the company. In some cases where there are insufficient numbers to run a group class, a reduced number of individual classes may be offered (eg 20 hours group lessons becomes 10 hours One-to-One lessons). Lessons for full beginners are organised once a month. If beginners arrive on other dates, LSF reserves the right to transform the group lessons into individual or semi-individual lessons. As a result, the number of lessons is reduced by half. Accommodation Accommodation is shown for the exact number of weeks during the stay, this means from Sunday to Saturday, unless otherwise indicated. For arrival dates different than Saturday or departure dates different than Sunday, a supplement charge will be payable. Materials and Transfers Examination fees, transfers costs, and the cost of activities and excursions are not included except where specifically stated; course materials are included. *Host family as accommodation option includes transfer to/from Montpellier Airport or Montpellier Train Station. Public Holidays Where a course takes place during a public holiday, no lessons will take place on that day and no reduction in price will be given except where specifically stated. For adults, individual and group classes are usually rescheduled (but not always), and it is the student’s responsibility to attend these rescheduled classes. For juniors, there will be no lessons on a public holiday, but a normal activity programme will take place on public holidays. Please consult the list of public holidays shown in the company literature (although it is the client's responsibility to check these since they are often subject to change).

-2Visa Problems Where a client has made a reasonable attempt to obtain a visa for the destination country within a reasonable time-scale but is unable to obtain the visa, all money and deposits will be returned subject to a €75 administration charge on receipt of written confirmation from the relevant consulate detailing the visa rejection (only original documents will be accepted). Notification of visa rejection must be made to the company in writing (or e-mail) at least 2 weeks before the start date of the course or accommodation booking. It is the client's responsibility to claim any insurance monies due as the company cannot claim on behalf of the client, which is why insurance should always be taken out prior to booking. Alterations by the Company The company will do its utmost to provide the arrangements that have been confirmed, but it reserves the right to modify or cancel any accommodation or itinerary if unforeseen circumstances arise. If the company cancels or significantly alters an essential element of the client's holiday for reasons of force majeure, on or before the date when the payment of the balance becomes due, the company shall inform the client as soon as possible and shall offer them the choice of an alternative holiday date or a full refund. If force majeure occurs while the holiday is in progress, the company will try to make reasonable alternative arrangements. Liability of the Company The company accepts responsibility for ensuring that all parts of the stay are supplied as described and that all services shall reach a reasonable standard. However the company shall not be liable for the failure or improper performance of those services where such failure or improper performance is attributable to a) the fault of the client, b) the unforeseeable or unavoidable actions of an unconnected third party, c) unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond the company's suppliers control, including force majeure (or delay, overbooking or cancellation by an airline, bus, train, car hire or ferry company). The obligations and responsibilities of the company shall also be limited where international conventions in respect of air or sea carriers apply. The company strongly recommends that clients take out suitable travel insurance. Descriptions The company honestly believes that all statements made in its brochure or web-site are factual and correct. Every reasonable effort has been made to describe the facilities and environs and to provide the amenities described. The company cannot therefore be held responsible for any changes that are made after the brochure was produced (up-to-date information can be found on the website), nor can the company accept liabilities for happenings outside its reasonable control. The company undertakes to advise the client of any material changes known to it prior to the client's departure. Special Requirements Any special requests must be advised to the company in writing at least one month before arrival.

-3Insurance The school subscribes to AXA, an insurance that protects the property and individuals within the school's walls and within the framework of educational visits or cultural and tourist outings. LSF cannot be held responsible in the case of theft on the premises. You must therefore be vigilant in this regard. Foreigners commit to being in order with the French administration (visa if necessary, upto-date passport, residents permit...) and to being covered by a personal insurance in the case of accident, of illness or damages to property and people. General Information General information is included in the company brochure and the company web-site for help and guidance to the client. Please read it carefully.
