The following activity is simple and fun. Butterflies have fascinated people around the world. This activity is based on the Hopi Indian tradition of making kachincas. Although, this activity is not a traditional kachinca, the Hopi Indians still make beautiful butterfly kachincas in honor of this amazing insect.

Hopi Butterfly Maiden Palhik Mana The Hopi Butterfly Maiden or Palhik Mana is part of the Mamzrau Initiation Dance. The headdress is called a tableta. The tableta are often an elaborately carved and frequently include symbols representing clouds, corn and of course the butterfly. Feathers are also used for added embellishment on the headdress.
