4. Cooling



4. Refrigeración

• To avoid undesirable heat generation during preparation, make sure to provide sufficient cooling by means of air/water spray (at least 50 ml/min.).

• Additional external cooling is required when using FG instruments with a total length of more than 22 mm or a head diameter exceeding 2 mm.

6. Eliminación de los Instrumentos gastados – Los instrumentos con filos dañados o deformados causan vibraciones y generan imperfecciones en los márgenes de la preparación, así como superficies ásperas e irregulares.

– Blank spots on the surface of diamond instruments are an indication of abrasive grit wear and reduced cutting efficiency. These deficiencies lead to excessive temperature and finally pulp damage. Therefore, bent or “out of true” instruments must be eliminated immediately. Very important: Blunt and damaged instruments may lead to the dentist applying higher contact pressure which may result in an increased operating temperature and thermal damage to the pulp. Damaged instruments therefore have to be discarded immediately.

6. Elimination of worn instruments

7. Esterilización

– Prior to the first use on the patient and immediately after each use, all rotary instruments have to be (re)processed.

– Wear puncture resistant utility gloves when handling contaminated instruments.

– Pre-soak instruments immediately after use to loosen debris. – For cleaning we recommend to use automated cleaning equipment (e.g. ultra­ sonic cleaner or washer-disinfector). – Burs should be separated from each other in a bur block to prevent damage during immersion. – Brush away remaining debris with a metal cleaning brush (REF 9791) or - especially in case of cleaning ceramic instruments - with a softer nylon cleaning brush (REF 9873) and rinse instruments under running water.

– Dry burs (e.g. by airblasting) to avoid corrosion.

– Quite los residuos remanentes con un cepillo de metal (REF 9791) o - especialmente para instrumentos cerámicos – con un cepillo de nylon, más suave (REF 9873) y enjuáguelos bajo agua corriente.

– Sterilization of instruments is carried in the autoclave out using the known methods. Minimum hold times: for 30 minutes at 121°C or for 4 minutes at 134°C. Times are hold times, running times are longer and may vary from unit to unit. The instructions provided by the device manufacturer have to be observed.

– After sterilization, check instruments for defects on the surface (corrosion). Do not reuse corroded instruments. – The operator of medical products is responsible for seeing that proper treatment is carried out by qualified staff using the appropriate materials and suited equipment.

8. Specific instructions for individual instrument types

Tungsten carbide – When trimming dry plaster a suction device must be used.

– Avoid any contact with H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide). The carbide working parts would be attacked and damaged reducing the instrument‘s working life.

Steel – Tool steel instruments may corrode when sterilized in the autoclave (see information in the catalog table).

– When using the separating strip (REF 9816) please avoid contact with the gingiva as there is a risk of injury due to sharp blades.

Diamond – Use a disc guard for rotating diamond discs when working intraorally.

– Use diamond discs REF 8964 and REF 983 only in standard clockwise rotation. Counter-clockwise rotation may lead to jamming and breakage.

– When using finishing disc REF 952 avoid axial deflection over 45° and radial deformation. This may lead to breakage. In order to guarantee non-traumatic treatment, ensure direct vision and avoid contact with soft tissue. An integrated sliding clutch stops the disc in case it gets jammed. Afterwards the finishing disc can no longer be used.

– When using the diamond strips (REF numbers start with WS or DS) please avoid contact with the gingiva as there is a risk of injury. Please also avoid extreme bending as this might lead to fracture of the strip.

Therefore, when using such products, use sufficient water cooling (at least 50 ml/min) and work at minimal contact pressure. To achieve an optimal surface roughness, subsequent finishing is necessary.

– When using ceramic instruments for cutting, care should be taken that the instrument does not get jammed; this increases risk of fracture.

– Special care has to be taken when cleaning the long and narrow bores and blind holes of these instruments.

– Information with regard to cleaning: Clean the workplace and surfaces from all contaminations with a single-use cloth or tissue. Preparation of instruments with internal cooling has to take place within one hour after they have been used at the latest. It is not necessary to disassemble the instruments with internal cooling. Cleaning is carried out by means of a mandrel (REF 9793), a cleaning brush (REF 9791), a 10 ml syringe and running water.

For cleaning and sharpening, DSB abrasives have to be dressed with the white cleaning stone REF 9750 from time to time:
