August 2013

Exploring the value of loyalty with children The End of Summer is Fast Approaching It is hard to believe that the summer is almost over. The children have been enjoying their summer with water play, funtastic fitness, jugglers, mad science, soccer and so much more. The teachers still have some awesome plans for the remaining weeks of summer. On August 30th we will be having our end of summer Luau. We will be providing hamburgers and hotdogs and will be asking families to sign up for side dishes and desserts. We will be sending a flyer out as we get closer to the time. Our new school year starts on September 3rd. The teachers have already started preparing for the new school year. We have quite a few new families joining us this school year and want to welcome them all. Many of our new families have been referred to us by you and we appreciate That. As a reminder we do offer an incentive for families that refer others to us. You get a week of free tuition up to $300. Starting in September we will be hosting Parent's Night Out again and it will be on the second Saturday of each month. The children have a great time and ask to come back for the next one. The cost includes dinner, crafts and games (they love flash light tag and hide and seek). We hope everyone enjoys the rest of their summer and if you are doing more traveling, safe travels. Loyalty is all about commitment and dedication to specific things or people. In the month of August, Kiddie Academy explores the value of loyalty and teaches children by practicing actions they can demonstrate in the classroom. Parents can teach their children how to be loyal by first practicing it themselves. It’s important to reiterate loyalty by setting examples outside the classroom and implementing them at home. Showing dedication to your family will help develop that trait in your children. Mom.me offers the following tips on teaching children loyalty: Respect and Love – If children feel love and guidance, they'll naturally develop feelings of loyalty towards their parents. Tell your children that you will always be there for them and they can depend on you. For instance, if you’re picking them up from school you can say, “I’ll be there at noon, you can count on it!” l Family Activities - Children need strong, loving bonds with family members. These bonds are created through spending time together. Bring siblings to each other’s events, such as sports games or recitals. Eat dinner as a family. Playing games to teach loyalty is another great way to spend time together. l Model Loyalty - Look for the good in others and share positive moments with your children. When you see an example of loyalty, let your children know how much you appreciate the act of loyalty that was put into action. l Forge Links – Talking about your family history is a wonderful starting point to make your children feel connected to their family. Hand down traditions from previous generations and connect your child’s experience to those of other family members. These activities strengthen your child's sense of family, and teach loyalty. l Overcome Challenges - Children need to learn how to address and work through conflicts. When handled appropriately, challenges can strengthen family bonds and teach loyalty. Instead of hiding problems from children, talk honestly about the issues and look for solutions together. l Children’s Literature - Look for books with memorable characters that demonstrate the value of loyalty. Classics like “Where the Red Fern Grows” are a great read for both young and old. ® Kiddie Academy of Leesburg 400 Sycolin Road, SE Leesburg, VA 20175 703.771.9871 l
