Orion Gold Project Locations

Key tenements granted at Connors Arc epithermal gold project, Qld Key Points 

EPM 19825 and EPM 25122, granted by the Queensland DNRM.

EPM 19825 provides access to the northern half of the prospective Aurora Flats epithermal gold prospect, a near-term exploration drilling target.

Both tenements also provide access to a number of broad ‘grassroots’ style epithermal / porphyry style targets generated by earlier ASTER data analysis and interpretation.

ASX Code: ORN

Orion Gold NL (ASX: ORN) is pleased to advise that two of the three tenements covering its Connors Arc Epithermal Gold Project, EPM 19825 and EPM 25122 (Figure 1), have been granted by the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines. Orion has a 100% interest in EPM 19825 and EPM 25122.

EPM 19825 provides Orion with access to the northern section of the highly prospective Aurora Flats epithermal gold prospect (Figure 1 and 2). As outlined previously (see ASX releases dated 15 July 2013 and 27 August 2013), Aurora Flats represents a high priority, near-term exploration drilling target. As detailed in previous releases Aurora Flats has been given a high priority due to the geochemical signature returned in previous shallow drilling completed at the prospect. This signature, along with other geological characteristics, is commonly consistent with a shallow level in an epithermal gold system, indicating potential for the preservation of high-grade gold mineralisation at deeper levels. Upon grant of the adjacent tenement application, EPM 25283, Orion will have access to the entire Aurora Flats – Powerline epithermal quartz vein trend that has been mapped to date (Figure 2). This trend is only very shallowly drill tested in several locations and comprises discontinuous outcrop of epithermal quartz veining over a strike length approaching 2km. EPM 19825 and EPM 25122 also provide the Company with access to a number of grassroots style epithermal / porphyry style target areas, comprising zones of possible hydrothermal alteration interpreted from the processing and analysis of ASTER data (see ASX Release – 27 August 2013). These target areas are sparsely covered by previous geochemical sampling, and represent opportunities to generate additional exploration targets for first pass drilling.

Background The New England Fold Belt in Queensland hosts numerous +1Moz Devonian through to Triassic aged epithermal and intrusion-related Au deposits. Many of these deposits are Permian – Carboniferous aged systems and are intimately associated with intrusive lithologies of similar age. Orion’s Connors Arc project area incorporates prospects specifically interpreted as low sulphidation epithermal style systems. These prospects represent attractive gold exploration targets on the basis that they are located within a geological and structural setting very similar to other significant epithermal gold systems in Queensland. Notable features include close proximity to the eastern margin of the Bowen Basin and prospective, PermoCarboniferous aged volcanic and intrusive lithologies. In addition: • •

Key prospects are spatially associated with a large, magmatic hydrothermal system (Mt Mackenzie); The Connors Arc hydrothermal system is located within a geological and structural setting which is very similar to other significant epithermal gold systems in Queensland such as Cracow and Mt Carlton and is of the same broad age (Permo-Carboniferous) as many other intrusion-related gold systems in Queensland; and Geological and geochemical characteristics suggest that some prospects may be shallowly eroded, implying potential for higher gold grades at depth.
