Be Part of the Legacy Since 1903, Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego has built a legacy of exploration and discovery, leading efforts to fully investigate the oceans, solid earth, and atmosphere. Scripps scientists have sailed to Edward Willis Scripps (1854-1926) was

a cofounder of Scripps Oceanography in 1903. In 1907, he selected an undeveloped parcel of land to be the permanent home of the institution, which was purchased for $1,000. The Scripps campus still occupies the land, and E.W. Scripps Associates dues are set
