JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

Welcome It is with great pleasure that I introduce the new Spring 2015 season programme, which brings you the best in entertainment from the West End and across the UK as well as performances that showcase our fantastic local talent. 2014 was a very successful year for the Grand Opera House, with sell out events such as Derren Brown, Singin' in the Rain and Dirty Dancing. This year looks set to be even more successful as we bring you a wide range of shows to inspire and delight. If you have any comments on how you feel our facilities can be improved, these would be most welcome so please do let us know.

Jesus Christ Superstar exploded onto the musical scene in 1971 stunning audiences and changing the face of musical theatre forever. Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera tells the story of the last seven days in the life of Jesus through an extraordinary, groundbreaking score. As compelling today as it was at its inception over forty years ago, Jesus Christ Superstar has some of musical theatre’s most legendary songs from I Don't Know How to Love Him, Everything's Alright, and Gethsemane through to, of course, Superstar.

I really hope that you enjoy our new programme and I look forward to welcoming you back on your next visit to the Grand Opera House. Mary-Clare Deane Chief Executive

Middle Ground Theatre Company Ltd is delighted to present The Business of Murder, the acclaimed psychological thriller from the pen of Richard Harris (The Sweeney, A Touch Of Frost, The Avengers) which enjoyed a successful nine-year run in the West End.

With special guests from the hit TV Show Strictly Come Dancing, audiences will be wowed with glamorous costumes, breathtaking ballroom skills and unforgettable songs including Cheek to Cheek, Alexander’s Rag Time Band, Birth of the Blues and I Got Rhythm

“A brilliant and nostalgic night out! The singing was top class, and the dancing even better.”

Stone, a humourless and dour man, invites Dee, a television playwright, over to his flat on the premise of discussing a script. Once there, she is surprised when superintendent Hallett, the man with whom she is having an affair, also arrives for an entirely different reason.

But nothing is as it seems, and as the plot twists and turns the motive of their host Stone gradually becomes clear. They are all, it would seem, in the same business...the Business of Murder.

Bursting with all the ingredients of a classic fairytale, including a Wicked Stepmother, a handsome prince and a damsel in distress, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs stars Northern Ireland’s much-loved Queen of Comedy, May McFettridge in what will be her 26th consecutive pantomime appearance.

William Golding’s 20th century classic Lord of the Flies explodes onto the stage in a remarkable production direct from London’s award-winning Regent’s Park Theatre. When a group of schoolboys survive a catastrophic plane crash, what starts as a desert island adventure quickly descends into a struggle for survival in a darkly sinister world of superstition and immorality.

Most definitely the fairest of them all, May will lead the cast in what will be another spectacular Grand Opera House pantomime.

Playing to capacity audiences during its original run, this acclaimed production is guaranteed to grip from start to finish.
