Involvement includes a bi-weekly meeting with members of the chemoprevention program to discuss ongoing Phase I-III clinical trials at UW as well as discuss future proposed clinical trials. These meetings discuss progress on accrual rate, clinical events of participants, and protocol amendments. UI CENTRE (2013 - Present): The UI-CENTRE (University of Illinois Collaborative Engagement for Novel Therapeutics Research Enterprise) is a campus wide initiative to promote collaboration across many disciplines to encourage the development of novel therapeutics for a wide variety of disease states. The UI-CENTRE is comprised of 5 cores that include administration (Core 1), Medicinal Chemistry (Core 2), Drug Library Development (Core 3), High Thru put screening (Core 4) and Pre-clinical Pharmacokinetics (Core 5). The pharmacokinetics core that I lead is responsible for the development of LC/MS-MS assays capable of detecting small molecules for in vitro studies (e.g. plasma stability and microsomal assays) and in vivo studies (e.g. mouse pharmacokinetics including plasma/serum and tissue). Role: Core 5 Leader

CLINICAL PROTOCOLS / TRIALS Active / IRB Approved: 1. A phase 1 clinical trial to evaluate the pharmacokinetic profile of a dietary supplement containing αmangostin in healthy adult volunteers ClinicalTrials.gov: IRB approved, Not Recruiting PI: Johnson JJ Site: University of Illinois at Chicago Role: Protocol Chair / Pharmacokinetic Assay Development and Analysis Summary: The purpose of this to study is to see if a mangosteen extract when given orally is absorbed and the main phytochemical can be detected in blood. Participants will receive one dose of 1000 mg of a Mangosteen Extract (containing 20% α-mangostin) with a meal. Blood will be collected at 15 minutes, 30 minutes and 1, 2, 4 , 6, 8, 12 and 24 hrs. The level of α-mangostin will be determined at each time point. 2. Resveratrol with or without piperine to enhance plasma levels of resveratrol ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT01324089 PI: Howard Bailey, MD Site: University of Wisconsin Role: Pharmacokinetics analysis Summary: The purpose of this study is to see if resveratrol in combination with piperine is more effective than taking resveratrol alone. Since investigators don't know what dose of piperine to use in combination with resveratrol, two different doses of piperine will be studied. Twenty-four participants, equal numbers of males and females, will receive a single dose of resveratrol (2.5 grams) without piperine, resveratrol (2.5 grams) with piperine (5 mg), or resveratrol (2.5 grams) with piperine (25 mg). 3. A Biological Study of Resveratrol's Effects on Notch-1 Signaling in Subjects With Low Grade Gastrointestinal Tumors ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT01476592 PI: Emily Winslow, MD Site: University of Wisconsin Role: Pharmacokinetic Assay Development and Analysis Summary: The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of resveratrol and Notch-1 on neuroendocrine tumor tissue and to examine how people with neuroendocrine tumors who take resveratrol for up to three months tolerate the product
