Sunday 29th September 1963 at The Pigalle Club was Len Ford's last gig with the Hi-Fi's. He collapsed on stage diagnosed and caused by a "Plural Effusion" (a wet plusisy of the left lung, which housed a germ similar to TB). He subsequently spent 6 months in the Hermitage Cottage Hospital near Crystal Palace Among the many visitors, The Hi-Fi's Malcolm Wright and Brian Bennett, Len's girlfriend Josephine Brooks was Liquorice Locking the ex bass guitarist with Cliff Richard and The Shasdows and earlier in The Crew Cuts with Marty Wilde, Big Jim Sullivan and Brian Bennett (the drummer not the hi-fi's pianist of the same name). It took a further six months convalescing at home before len declared fit, but not recommended to follow the musicians lifestyle again and so joined the everyday work place. The Hi-Fi's regrouped and in early Noverber 1963 were engaged to become the backing group for Duane Eddy / Little Richard package tour The musicians union blocked his group "The Rebels" performing in the UK due to musicians union rules where exchange artists had to make an appearance in the USA So you could say that Duane Eddy replaced Len Ford as The Hi-Fi's lead guitarist. The Hi-Fi's Gig List 1963 October 1963 The Hi-Fi's regrouped with Ted Harvey (vocals/bass ) and Garry Peterson changed from bass to piano/vocals. Brian Bennett purchased an organ keyboard, this new line up format being very forward thinking in 1963 was not suitable for the Duane Eddy gig and so Garry went on his own way never to be heard or seen again.
