Manufacturing with heart and soul Not all kitchens are created equal. It’s not until you dig a little deeper that you begin to understand that looks can be deceptive. For example; the stiles and rails of our shaker doors are made from solid kiln dried timbers unlike some manufacturers. No laminates here. Other manufacturers choose to import their doors. In fact quite a few use bought-in cabinets too, so what you’re buying are often cheap and inferior components and a brand name. At Ultima we’re intensely proud of the fact that we manufacture our own doors and cabinets using glue and dowel construction for added strength. Not so we can charge a premium, but so we can ensure our products are of the finest quality and so we can continually look for improvements.

We’ve invested heavily over the years in the finest machinery. It helps to ensure that the last cabinet to roll off the production line at the end of the day is built to the same exacting standards as the first. In fact it’s always been that way, ever since we began supplying trade customers over 30 years ago. It’s testament to the dedication of our founder, Alf Ellis, a pioneering spirit with a lifelong fascination with all things mechanical. Employing the latest, hi-tech machinery may not mean much when you’re looking for a new kitchen. But when you consider that it enables us to manufacture our products more efficiently here in the UK,
it means we can pass on any cost savings to you, our customers. The flexibility that our state-of-the-art production processes provide means our products can be tailored to individual customers needs. And that’s a rare find outside the more expensive or bespoke manufacturers.

It takes dedication and a passion for fine craftsmanship, and that only comes from having a highly skilled workforce who take pride in their work and know how to make things just so.

Ultima kitchens are delivered to your home by experienced staff using our own fleet of vehicles. It means your kitchen never leaves our hands and we have complete control over when and how they are delivered. It’s that uncompromising quality, willingness to create something truly special and affordability that provides the Ultima difference. Hardly surprising really, given that they are made in Yorkshire.
Our attention to detail borders on the obsessive, so naturally we only use the finest components. Take our hinges for example; unlike most of our competitors we use ‘in-line’ hinge plates on our cabinet doors. This makes fine-tuning the door height easy. Whilst it doesn’t sound like a big deal, anyone who’s ever spent hours dismantling door hinges to manually adjust the height may disagree. We don’t use filler panels either. Ever. All our appliance housings are designed and manufactured to fit appliances perfectly without any unsightly gaps. All our kitchens are hand finished too. Our solid timber doors are sanded by hand as no machine can ever replicate the finish we require. Certain key components are also still fitted by hand so we can ensure tolerances are

A world of choice
How many times have you fallen in love with a product only to find it’s not available in the colour of your choice? We think that’s very last season and not really the Ultima way.
Kitchen design has come a long way in the last few years driven largely by the way we live our lives. For example; many of our ranges now feature integrated dining areas and breakfast units as well as islands with integrated hobs, sinks and wastes. The trick is in maintaining the concept of critical distances and workflow principles to create living spaces that work and are both practical and at the same time, superb social environments in which to live and entertain.
We understand that colour is subjective. It’s a very personal choice despite what the current trend or fashions dictate. We appreciate that when you’re spending a lot of money on your dream kitchen and you shouldn’t have to compromise on colour or even finish for that matter. It’s about your dream and vision – after all, who gets excited about ‘what’s available’?
Dreams aren’t about compromises and ‘availability’. We believe in providing customers with what they want. It’s about you and turning your vision into reality – whatever colour that may be.

This is one of the reasons why we put so much thought into our manufacturing processes. It means we can offer our customers more flexibility and choice so if they want us to colour match a painted door to a specific shade, no problem – even if it's electric pink. Best of all, on many of our ranges we’re able to offer painted doors in any colour of your choice for a small surcharge. We have specially selected 11 finishes to create the Ultima colour palette, but if you have a favourite in mind from Farrow and Ball, Harlequin or Fired Earth please let us know as we offer a full paint matching service.
Our designers aren’t afraid to challenge convention. They are always looking at the relationship between the user, the kitchen and the china, glassware, cookware and utensils being used. Our pan drawers are a good example of this. All our ranges feature 500mm deep pan drawers providing an extra 20 per cent of storage space when compared to standard 450mm pan drawers used by some of our competitors. We also recognise that there’s no such thing as a standard room size so many of our cabinets are also available in half-size widths as well as a range of depths. We will even make special depth units for a small surcharge. This means your kitchen can be tailored to fit the space available without the need for awkward fillers or unsightly gaps.
Our kitchen ranges include contemporary, traditional, classic and shaker styles. In fact there’s a style for almost any home – from post-modernist, minimalism to rustic country living and everything in between. When it comes to storage we use Kesseböhmer for their inventive solutions providing direct, easy access to the contents of kitchen units. Drawer boxes and pullout systems are by Blum and feature soft close dampers and drawers that can be fully extended. At Ultima we’re constantly looking for new product innovations and pioneering the use of new materials and technologies. Not gimmicks, but clever design ideas and new ways of doing things like movement activated lighting and pop-up TV monitors, allowing instant access to online recipe books and interactive guides. Things that actually improve the way you interact with your kitchen – things that make you smile every time you use them.

shaker The beauty of a shaker style kitchen is in its simplicity. The characteristic features of this style of door are a square framed design with an inset flat centre panel.
