innovation in your classroom Apply for a Steelcase Education Active Learning Center Grant Calling all innovative educators and educational institutions: Steelcase Education seeks partners in active learning ready to springboard the physical classroom for the advancement of learning in new and important ways. We have a strong passion for understanding how learning takes place and how smarter, more active learning spaces can help. At Steelcase Education, we help schools, colleges and universities create the most effective, rewarding and inspiring learning environments through insight-led research and innovation in furniture, tools and technology. That’s why we’re offering a grant that will provide funding and research for up to 15 Active Learning Centers each year. Each grant will provide furniture, integrated technology, design, installation and a post-occupancy measurement tool for one of four classroom types designed to elevate connection, improve engagement and spur collective

success of students and staff. These classrooms will support 24 – 32 students. Eligible classrooms must be located in the United States, Canada or Mexico, serving grades 6 – 12 or within a college or university. Grants are valued at $62,000 and deliver the full impact of active learning: classroom innovation and learning inspiration. Active Learning Classroom 4 Static maker space supports ideation and creativity Hands on problem-solving, informal or formal conversations, ideation and experimentation, design reviews or presentations are a number of things typical to educational maker spaces. This versatile space supports the new type of thinking and doing for 21st-century students. •• This space allows informal sharing, such as casual conversations between students and formal sharing, such as critiques or design reviews.

•• Tables in the center support students sharing with others and the instructor when providing a class demo. Verb easels, whiteboard rails and personal whiteboards comprise the arsenal used for sharing information as well. •• This environment provides large tables to support building and prototyping. •• Buoys near whiteboards allow students to step away from the making and begin thinking and ideating about their work. •• Depot storage aids the need for intuitively placed storage options encouraging a tidy space. •• Thread brings power up off the floor to user height with a clean and accessible user interface where no power may otherwise exist.
