Course Description: Students will discover new ways to enjoy photos, create movies, make music, creative digital projects and more. This hands-on course introduces students to the features and interface of iLife ¹11. ILife ¹11 is a suite of digital authoring tools that comes with every Mac: Aperture, iPhoto, iMovie, GarageBand, iDVD, and iWeb. With iLife ¹11, students will learn to create media-rich digital projects and share them online with a few clicks. Featuring footage and images from around the world, the focused lessons cover all aspects of iLife ¹11 everything from organizing and sharing photo libraries to creating polished video and soundtracks. Students will learn the basics of how to produce movies, picture books, podcasts, music compilations, and custom DVDs. Students will also explore the interface and basics of the Final Cut Pro X digital film production program.

Unit Details: iLife teaches Media Literacy: the ability to communicate in a variety of powerful ways that are different from speaking or writing. Making professional-quality videos, podcasts, and slideshows, and being able to combine picture and sound effectively are skills that can be applied throughout their professional and personal life.

1A: iPhoto: Rediscovering Photos Overview: This unit will give students a basic understanding of the operations and limitations of iPhoto. Students will learn how to import pictures from digital cameras; how to organize, fix, enhance, and backup their library of photos; and hot to share their pictures in slideshows, printed books, and on popular photo-sharing websites. The product students will create while learning iPhoto is a professional-looking photo book, which will serve as their portfolio and represent their working knowledge of iPhoto applications. Learner Outcomes: Students will: 1. 2. 3.

2A: iMovie: Slice of Hollywood at School Overview: This unit will give students a basic understanding of the operations and limitations of iMovie. Students will learn how to combine digital photos, music, special effect, graphics, and title text in iMovie. They will be introduced to the concepts of themes and trailers, editing to maximum effect; adding narration to enhance videos, mixing sound, and sharing the finished product via the web or other digital Apple devices. Learn how to import video clips from the finder Skimming and playing video clips, marking favorites and rejects. Choosing project themes, adding music and design elements. Syncing movie to iPads, iPods, or iPhones. Develop movie trailers, design the trailer outline Fill in trailer storyboard, edit trailer clips, and customize storyline. Create a Sports Highlight video project. Use the Sports theme, apply sports oriented video effects and music.

Apply knowledge to refine their movie, edit the project, enhance clips, work with multiple audio tracks, stabilize clips, and fine tune. Learn advanced editing techniques, applying theme titles and transitions. Use precision editing features, record voice-overs. Be able to capture and manage their media projects in their Imovie library.

3A: Garageband: Learn How to Make Music Overview: This unit will give students the basic understanding of the operations of Garageband. Students will learn how to access music instrument lessons, play with virtual bands, create and arrange original musical scores, as well as share their finished songs on iTunes. Students will also learn some advanced project finishing techniques to help them complete and share songs, podcasts, and movie scores. Learner Outcomes: Students will: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9.

Learn how to explore and play instruments in the Learn to Play interface. Record their practice sessions and view their progress. Experience jam sessions in Magic Garageband Jam. Work with mixers during auditions, and customize instrument parts. Be able to record a simple instrument part and save a finished song. Learn the basics of recording music tracks. Experiment with editing tracks, applying effects, and duplicating tracks. Learn how to fix timing issues, arrange music, and learn mixing techniques to enhance songs. Have experience working with adjusting project tempos, and Apple Loops.
