Introduction This document has been developed by Innova spa in fulfilment of its obligations as established in the contract Innova –ISTAS “Supply of tender services for BASIC project”. Innova is responsible together with the support of the BASIC project Chinese partners of transferring Technology and Awareness in the field of IT tools and IST solutions. The present document “ICT tools cards” has been developed as appendix of the Deliverable 5.1. “Sustainable ICT Survey”. It has been designed so to provide Chinese SMEs with short and meaningful information on the ICT tools specific feature and contents so to enable companies to immediately identify the services obtainable by each application and its potential impact in companies’ business processes and products. Innova has developed a questionnaire designed so to deepen the available information of the whole group of tools presented in the survey in the following categories: Software Brief description Main content Industrial Sectors targeted Technical information (hardware/software requirements) Major software benefits for the user The questionnaire has been then sent to the ICT software tools developers so to obtain first hand information and compare Innova expert team evaluation of the tools with the one of technology owners. The final selection of ICT tools presented in this documents has been obtained evaluating the tools according to the following criteria: 1. industrial sector of application: the wider sectoral application is possible the higher interest the tool can arise among the pool of companies supported by the BASIC project 2. easiness of integration into company management practises: user friendly interface, compatibility with major operating system, performance of the services offered compared to the other available on the market 3. usefulness of results in the terms of: communicability of the results, impact in the international trade opportunities for the Chinese SMEs 4. availability in the short medium term of the software Chinese version According to this criteria, Innova expert team has selected a set of tool, 14 software tools for the Environmental Management System and 6 for Life Cycle Assessment. Finally, the ICT tool cards have been also designed so to be uploaded in the BASIC web site, together with the Del 5.1 “Sustainable ICT Survey” titled “ICT and business sustainability in SMEs” and the related flyer, so to constitute the Virtual library on ICT tools for sustainable SMEs that represents the Del 5.4. of the BASIC project. Here below follows the ICT tools cards including the information available per each of the selected tool.

SOFTWARE TOOLS RELATED TO EMS Management systems – These are either specific environment management systems, integrated environmental, health and safety systems or hybrid systems that incorporate sustainable development or security An EMS is defined as the organizational structure, responsibilities, practices, procedures, processes ,and resources for implementing and managing an organization’s environmental affairs while ensuring conformity to its policies, standards, and stakeholders’ expectations. An Environment Management System (EMS) is a tool for managing the impacts of an organisation's activities on the environment. It provides a structured approach to planning and implementing environment protection measures. An EMS monitors environmental performance. An EMS integrates environmental management into a company's daily operations, long term planning and other quality management systems. It has been standardized by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and it also forms the conceptual basis for a number of management approaches that consider a product across its life cycle, covering resource acquisition, product manufacturing, product use, and end-of-life. LCA is the foundation for two other powerful decision-making tools, life cycle engineering and life cycle value assessment. LCE takes the basic LCA framework and adds an analysis of the technical and economic aspects of the product system under consideration.: By adding these two additional considerations LCE provides decision-makers with a concurrent analysis of the technical, economic and ecological implications for a variety of product related applications such as material selection, technology changes, and new design options. LCE tools are integrated directly into product design and engineering and they allow decision-makers to evaluate different scenarios taking into consideration environmental, cost and technical factors Life cycle value assessment (LCVA) uses a systematic methodology to identify, quantify and analyze the environmental, financial, and if desired, social implications of each of the activities involved in producing and consuming a product or service. LCA (that identify the key environmental aspects of products throughout the product life cycle) is a fundamental tool for Design for Environment (DfE) or Ecodesign. DfE is the integration of environmental considerations into product and process design.
