How to... ...Download images with NetVu Client A few options are now available. First select the download type, either MJP or VID/IDX files MJP files are recommended for smaller downloads, normally less than 500 Mbytes. How much time this relates to depends on the number of camera’s and record rate see section how to work out download size. MJP files are downloaded in one single file and only contain the selected cameras, audio and the exact time period entered. VID/IDX files are direct copies of the video partitions and contain all cameras and audio that cover the period selected. Video partitions can be configured as either 10Mb or 100Mb partitions. The bigger the partition the more information it can contain. For instance 100Mb partitions may contain 15mins of video images but a 10Mb partition may only be 1-2 mins of video images, again this depends on the record rate. If selecting MJP file type you can select the cameras to download the time range of the images, and the file name you wish to store the images to. At least one camera must be selected. If selecting VID/IDX type you select the time range and folder name to store the VID/IDX files. Note that the "Save to folder" option specifies a folder name rather than a file name. The downloaded files will be saved in this folder using the same filenames as the server - i.e. VIDNNNNNN.VID and VIDNNNNNN.IDX. By clicking the TO/FOR option you can specify a start and end time or just a start time and duration. Note: that long time periods will generate multiple files so it usually wise to split large downloads into smaller sections. Large files can cause issues with storage either on PC or CD/DVD. Note: VCR replay software is unable to handle large MJP files. It is recommended that MJP files be kept under 600Mb The "offset from GMT" value is used to adjust the entered times so they are submitted to the server as a GMT time. This will default to the current GMT offset of the PC but can be adjusted if required. Important: The target PC must be configured to the same time zone as the video server.

How to... ...Download images with NetVu Client The "Pause Live while downloading" option will pause the live image display and allow images to be downloaded faster. The "Close this window on completion" option will automatically close the download dialog when the download is complete. The "Disconnect call on completion" option will closedown the current call once the download is complete. Once you have selected a file or folder in which to save the images, click the Download button to start. The status bar will indicate the current number of images downloaded and the percentage downloaded so far. Depending on how the image server has been configured an FTP user id and password may also be required.

How to work out download size. To work out the size of the download we need the following information: - record rate (ms), number of cameras recording, number of cameras selected for download and the duration of the download. In our example we will use 160ms for the record rate, 16 camera’s recording, 2 camera’s selected for download and a duration of 15 minutes. 1) Convert the record rate into seconds i.e. 160 / 1000 = 0.16 2) Multiply result by the number of camera’s i.e. 0.16 x 16 = 2.56 this is the record rate per camera. 3) Convert duration into seconds and divide by record rate per camera i.e. (15 x 60) / 2.56 = 356. This is the number of images per camera per minute. 4) Each image is by default 20Kbytes in size multiply this by the number of images per camera and again by the number of camera’s i.e. 20 x 356 x 2 = 14240Kb that’s approximately 14.2Mb In our example we have created a 14.2Mbyte file, if the record rate was 40ms then the file size would be 4 times the size i.e. 56Mb If we wanted 60 minutes then we could multiply again by 4 that’s over 220Mb And again if we wanted all 16 cameras then multiply by 8 to get a file size of about 1.8Gbytes. From all this we can see that it’s important to consider the target medium. For instance CD’s can hold up to 700Mb and DVD’s can contain up to about 4.3Gb.
