What is the AHA Activity Tracker? •

The Activity Tracker is a FREE website tool from the AHA that helps Americans make positive lifestyle changes through walking and a better diet. It’s a great way for individuals to track their progress as part of their activity goals and the AHA Walking Plans.



With the Activity Tracker, individuals and employees can:



Implementing this tool is easy and hassle-free for workplaces and their employees. And it provides an effective way to motivate and inspire more thinking about making permanent behavior changes, such as becoming more physically active and eating a healthier diet.

– Track their daily physical activities – even retroactively – Use our Google-map based Walking Paths to find or create walking routes around their home, office or when traveling – Track their daily diet intake – Follow a personalized Walking Plan – Get nutrition and physical activity tips from the American Heart Association to help them achieve their goals – See how they rank among their coworkers and nationwide – Easily find healthy lifestyle tips and guidelines from the American Heart Association

Who is using AHA Activity Tracker? • Large companies with multiple facility locations that want to create a company-wide walking competition and/or incentive program. – Clorox – 50 plant locations in the US and overseas • August – Registered all employees using the tool – Pedometers given to all registered employees to track daily steps • September – Launched the month-long walk program – Weekly competitions between plants • Managed by a single HR Representative • Heart Walk groups – Albuquerque School District – Participated in Heart Walk • Used Tracker to log their steps • To prepare for the walk they set a goal to walk 20 Million steps in the month prior to the local walk • Exceeded their goal by 1 Million steps! 9

Step 1: Company HR Delegate/Worksite Wellness Coordinator registers http://mystartonline.org/dashboard/hrstaff_register.jsp The company registration link is available on the site: In the Workplace then Activity Tracker, then Getting Started

• Only one person per account • Zip code uniquely identifies company name, e.g. AHA 75231 or AHA 06492 •National companies can set up second-tier, regional names with same HR Delegate or the local delegate. E.g. AHA Southwest Region 75231; AHA Corporate 75231. Caveat is to avoid many similar names to prevent employees registering under the incorrect account.

…this means the company name is already in use. - You may register with the same company name and different zipcode. - OR, send their contact information – email address, name, address, city, state, etc. – to [email protected]. She can easily complete the registration and verification process.

Step 2: AHA Staff Review, Verify and Activate company

•This process takes 24-48 hours. •Once AHA Staff has verified company and clicked Save button, HR Delegate instantly will receive automated email (from [email protected]) with delegate’s username and password confirmation.

• HR Delegate can log into mystartonline.org/reportingcenter and have access to aggregate information (Company Summary Report) and detailed information for each employee who opted in (Opted-In Employee Report) to share their information with their employer)

Upon verification, HR Delegate instantly receives confirmation email from [email protected] • NOTE: Username is automatically generated. Please check spam filter, too. We highly recommend HR Delegates copy and paste these credentials when logging in the first time to the On-Demand Reporting Center at mystartonline.org/reportingcenter. Registration Confirmation Message example: Your company request has been approved. Username: LISSA’S TIRES75231 Password: startwalking

• Company is now active • Employee/Individual can register under company name at StartWalkingNow.org • HR Delegate will also need to register on StartWalkingNow.org to participate. This site is separate from the On-Demand Reporting Center admin tool.

Step 3: Employee/Individual Registers by visiting StartWalkingNow.org and Become a Member or Register

Step 3: cont’d Since HR Delegate has registered and the company is Approved, employee will find company in Search Company drop-down box • Email address is unique identifier for registrant. Email address cannot be shared by another (e.g. couple cannot use same email address when registering individually) • Employee clicks Search for (activated) Company • Employee types in first few letters of company to find company. • Click on correct one • It will autopopulate into Company Name box

Step 3: cont’d Special notes about Registration Page

• When selected, Company name autopopulates • Companies can track local plants/offices by using the Home or Local Zip Code box OR... • by using “Dept./Team” box. This free-form box can be a combination such as “DALLAS -Legal Dept. “Larry’s Leggers” or “Legal” or for International Employees “Singapore – Finance” etc. This Dept/Team info shows up on the Excel spread sheet (next slide). The key is consistency in registering Dept. or Team names. • IMPORTANT NOTE: Health Information is not viewable by anyone except user. It is needed for the built-in algorithm that converts all activities into a single measurement – “Total Steps All Activities” • ALSO, because this registration contains health information, ONLY AN INDIVIDUAL should register him/herself NOT the employee’s COMPANY or AHA STAFF • Must be checked so individual will show up on HR Delegate’s report • Click Submit to complete registration 18

Step 3: cont’d Employee/Individual – Registration confirmed • Individual instantly receives email confirming username and password from [email protected] (please check spam filters too for this email) • Individual can then re-login to StartWalkingNow.org • Use Forgot Password functionality to retrieve password. Remember, email address is unique identifier in our database.

Step 3: cont’d It’s important that company employees register company and Dept/Team names consistently

• Note: Employees who have previously registered for the Tracker without a company affiliation and want to join their company worksite wellness program can do so on the Tracker Edit My Info page of the Tracker.* See slides 29 and 30. • Company names, Dept./Team names, etc. can be updated on the Edit My Profile page of the Tracker.

Remember: Opt-in Employee Personal Health Information is Private • Employees who opt-in to share information with employer will share only the data noted previously. Neither employer nor AHA staff will see employee height or weight. • Information gleaned from employees who do not opt-in will be part of an aggregate-only report. No identifying information will be shared. • The American Heart Association cannot access individual data due to privacy issues.
