Participate in the weekly MDT meeting and also take part in facilitating up discharge planning. Expected to see patient daily on the ward rounds, request investigations, review them and initiate appropriate treatment where necessary. Expected to do some simple procedures like cannulation and catheterization. Take part in the on call duty rota where we see and clerk patients coming through the AAU and also review the sick patients on the ward. The learning opportunities include the daily interaction with patients and trying to sort out the problems, consultant ward rounds, clerking and examining patients coming in through the acute on take list. Weekly meetings on Tuesday where different teams do a case presentation or medical journal review. Also FY2/FY1 combined teachings on Wednesday where we are taught the common medical problems and how to manage them.

F2 Emergency Department The Emergency Department comprises of 8 consultants – shared between the Basingstoke and Winchester site, with multiple middle grades who are also working between both sites. The SHO/FY2 currently only work in Basingstoke and are not expected to work at both sites.

They are expected to attend the structured teaching programmes provided by the department. The doctor will be responsible for such other specific clinical duties as allocated by consultants including performing other duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. F2 Paediatrics The Paediatric Department comprises 3 main working areas – Charlie’s Day Unit where acute paediatric cases are seen (either GP, ED or community referrals), G2 ward which is the main inpatient ward for paediatrics, and the neonatal unit, which also includes deliveries and the postnatal ward. The department is linked with tertiary centre in Southampton, but also with Great Ormond Street and London hospitals.

The other responsibilities are to attend the ward round, see new patients on arrival to the department, carry out neonatal checks and other jobs as required by senior staff. F2 Respiratory The Department of Respiratory Medicine is compromised of 2 consultants; both are part of the acute general medical on-call rota. They also provide specialist respiratory service including NIV and sleep medicine, lung cancer, airway disease, interstitial lung disease and TB. The department has a multidisciplinary approach and is supported by 2 respiratory specialist nurses, a lung cancer coordinator and a chest physiotherapist. There is a weekly bronchoscopy list and each consultant has 3 clinics a week. There are regular departmental teaching with emphasis on audit and research. The department is closely linked with the thoracic surgery department in Oxford, John Radcliff hospital.

The type of work to The F2 Doctors will be part of the respiratory team and will expect and learning provide patients care for all in-patients under the care of opportunities respiratory. They will deliver the daily medical care, including assessment and management. They are expected to gain specialist respiratory knowledge and will have a chance to perform respiratory based procedures such as spirometry, pleural aspiration and chest drain insertion (under supervision). The F2 doctor is responsible with the other members of the team for the ward care of patients and the maintenance of the patient’s medical record. They will have the opportunity to work with the consultants in outpatients clinics and will conduct the

ward discharge clinic regularly. They are expected to attend the structured teaching programmes provided by the department and the trust. The doctor will be responsible for other specific clinical duties as allocated by consultants, including the occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. They are going to be part of the junior doctor’s on-call roster and will provide cover for the medical assessment unit as per rota. Typical working pattern (Based on 09:00 to 17:00)* in this placement There is a daily ward round at 0900 followed by a lunch time trust teaching on Tuesday and Wednesday with MRCP teaching on Thursday. The afternoon generally is to carry on duties as advised and to provide ward cover. On Wednesday morning there is an X-Ray teaching session and fortnightly in the morning there will be a discharge clinic. Thursday morning is the lung cancer, with the afternoon for either ward cover or audit/research depending on the clinical duties. The post involves the assessment and treatment of acute general psychiatry patients in an open psychiatric ward environment. There are daily opportunities to learn about common presentations of acute mental illness, the assessment process involved including how to assess mental states and the appropriate use of medication, psychological treatments and ECT. Liaison with families and other mental health professionals will provide many learning opportunities. The unit runs regular journal clubs and case conferences and there are opportunities to be involved in learning about some

psychological treatments too.
