Magnetic Locks

R T S E C U R I T Y EQUIPMENT INTELLIGENT LOCKING SYSTEMS The rapid expansion in online banking services and cloud computing opportunities has increased the public’s awareness of the need to ensure sensitive data, especially customer’s personal data, is kept absolutely secure. However data protection measures often neglect direct physical access protection to the 19” enclosures that house the critical equipment. Those responsible for security grant physical access to buildings, rooms or data suites should also have the ability to control unauthorised access to individual rack enclosures using an easily manageable and reportable system.

MLR1000 Standalone Handle integrated with existing access control system via (voltage free) dry contacts

Alternatively site server racks which typically support central server structures are exposed to special risks, as they are often positioned in low security environments, located on different floors, buildings or even geographical locations. Although the equipment is protected by locked enclosures the process for making and issuing of keys, duplicating them upon loss or reclaiming them from terminated employees all requires a complex time consuming key management system.

MLR5000 Suitable for decentralized server structures using central access control. Each handle has own its   IP address.

MLR3000 Suitable for centralized server structures with up to 32 handles per IP address via Gateway device

These types of security threats can be prevented with the use of mechtronic control solution that allow access to be identified and authorized using a central control point combined with software that provides comprehensive monitoring and record keeping capabilities. This is where Rack Technologies have a decided advantage. We can help implement a solution that meets the specific requirements of individual companies. Using intelligent locking handles that can be integrated into existing access control systems or providing a complete turn-key solution using RFID-based access cards and E-Lines State of the Art administration suite software.

R T P A S S I V E COOLING SOLUTIONS PASSIVE COOLING SYSTEMS

FLOOR LEVEL

Over the past few years the significant increase in processor densities has resulted in Data Centre managers being faced with the dilemma of how to cost effectively solve the problem of under performing cooling infrastructure. Before engaging the ongoing expenses of additional active cooling systems, the question that really should be asked is, are you actually taking full advantage of the system already in place? Quite often the answer is simply no. Why, primarily because cold air is allowed to mix with hot air, raising its temperature before it reaches the equipment thus undermining the efficiency of the CRAC units. Developing an air management strategy will ultimately produce significant economic benefits and should be the starting point when implementing data centre efficiency programs. Controlling airflow can eliminate the inefficiencies presented by a facilities layout, the characteristics of installed equipment or cooling infrastructure.

Gaps in raised floors against obstacles like columns, in particular unsealed cable entries under cabinets have been shown to waste 50-80% of conditioned air.

Rack Technologies offer a range of airflow management methods that target three areas of isolation - Floor Level, Cabinet Level & Aisle Level.

Allowing chilled air to enter the room where it’s not required, reducing available air pressure and the volume of air cooling your IT equipment. Brushed floor tile grommets provide an effective method of sealing cable entry points with up to 97% efficiency.

brush floor tile Grommets

Symmetrical two (2) piece frame constructed from powder coated steel with Nylon brush insert. Suits new or existing cable installations. Pieced can be used as pairs or individually. Sits flush with floor tiles, or on top depending on application. Custom sizes available on request. Inefficient airflow management mixing of hot and cold airstreams.

Benefits of Isolating Cold Air & Hot Air: • Eliminates hot spots within equipment cabinets. • Prevents hot exhaust air streams circulating back into equipment. • Enables higher server densities within cabinets. • Avoids additional running costs from supplementary active cooling systems. • Provides CRAC units with higher air return temperatures increasing their efficiency and lowering their running costs. • Gives IT staff a more comfortable room environment.

R T P A S S I V E COOLING SOLUTIONS CABINET LEVEL To maximize the cooling capacity of your data centre active cooling system, it is important to manage the airflow through, over and around equipment cabinets. Our IQ range of cabinets equipped with our engineered range of passive cooling components allows you to maximise your cooling efficiency, reduce your operating costs and minimise your carbon foot print. It’s the logical choice for improving data centre energy efficiency.

TOP PANEL BRUSH KITS Prevent hot air leakage around cable entries.

Modular in design, and complementary in nature, passive components can be configured to suit changing conditions from small installations of 2-4kW up to demanding equipment densities above 20kW. Brushed Cabling Panels Sealed front to rear cable routing.

2-4Kw Heat Loads

Eliminate Hot Air Recirculating through the cabinet Even if you block unused RU space, exhausted air can still pass around the sides, top and bottom of the equipment. Installing an IQ Air Dam Kit provides a barrier to recirculation, allowing only front to rear air flow within the cabinet.

16

4-7Kw Heat Loads

Increase Chilled Air entering top of Cabinet Chilled air entering the cabinet from vented floor tiles, often fails to adequately reach top mounted equipment at suitable temperature, limiting equipment densities. Using the vertical hot spot cooling system, additional chilled air can be delivered to the top of cabinet, directed on problematic hot spots whilst also reducing the negative effect of hot air passing over the top of the cabinet.

QUICK RELEASE BLANKING PANEL Seal unused RU space. Tool-less installation.

(Standard colour black)

CHIMNEY FANS Optional hi-flow chimney fans.

R T P A S S I V E COOLING SOLUTIONS CABINET LEVEL

(Cont.)

Isolate the Hot Air from the Data Centre Larger heat loads demand larger amounts of cold air. By isolating hot air from the data room, more uniform air temperatures can be maintained throughout the data room to achieve higher rates of cooling capacity. Combining the IQ Heat extraction Duct, IQ Heat extraction Canopy, IQ Rear Air Deflector and IQ Air Dam kit a complete one way air management path is created within the cabinet. Isolated chilled air enters the server inlets with the exhausted hot air then guided up through the chimney where it can be further isolated and ducted back to the primary cooling system using either a suspended ceiling plenum, or ductwork mounted above the cabinet. The isolated hot air is returned to the CRAC at a higher temperature enabling greater operating efficiency, whilst also providing more freedom for positioning of vented tiles, allowing cold air to distribute throughout the data room as required.

Ceiling extraction duct configuration, can be used with solid or raised floor systems.

Vertical exhaust duct system 7-20Kw Heat Loads

17

R T P A S S I V E COOLING SOLUTIONS Aisle Level Aisle containment is the new air flow management standard for Data Centres. The ROI’s are simply compelling providing significant benefits including: • Payback in less than a year. • Turn off CRAC units. • Reduced hot air recirculation. • Increased CRAC set points. • Significantly lower on-going energy costs. • Increased equipment reliability and fewer hot spots. • Added server capacity promoting deferred capital expenditure. Aisle containment manages airflow within a data centre by isolating hot aisles and cold aisles from each other, thus preventing the mixing of hot and cold airstreams. This enables hot air to be returned to the CRAC unit at a higher temperature, increasing CRAC efficiency, but most importantly enables chilled air leaving the CRAC to remain unadulterated before it’s reaches your equipment, providing uniform server inlet temperatures. Cold Aisle containment Encapsulates up to 90% of the chilled air entering the cold aisle creating a pressurised plenum. No matter what height equipment is installed; it all receives a consistent volume of chilled air of uniform temperature. Hot Aisle containment Isolates the exhausted air within the hot aisle, which can then be safely transported back to a CRAC unit using a variety of ducting methods available, alternatively it can be feed into a locally installed In-Row cooling unit before redistributed back into the cold aisle.

Aisle Containment Models

R T C A B L E MANAGEMENT iQ CABLE MANAGEMENT The iQ Cable Management System is purpose designed for high density cabling. Incorporating 1RU Finger spacing ensures cables adhere to correct bend radii requirements. The T fingers come in two lengths, 93 & 146mm and are typically mounted on steel channels in 2RU increments which can be selectively removed to allow entry of larger cable bundles.

A rigid 2 way hinged cover completes the installation concealing the cables to provide a neat and tidy appearance. Horizontal Managers are available in 1, 2 and 4RU heights, with vertical in 80 and 150mm widths. (150mm wide subject to cabinet configuration).

Cable slack spools can be used for copper or fibre, when long cables need to be spooled within the vertical manager.

Vertical Managers are also available in single sided versions as modular 8RU, or full height sections that are mounted to the side of vertical RU rails.

Horizontal/Vertical CABLE MANAGEMENT

iQ SERIES CABLE ZONES The iQ Series Cable Zones are designed to optimise accessibility and provide suitable space for high volume cabling. They can be used to incorporate the iQ vertical cable management systems, rack mountable PDUs or cable ladder trays.

Slotted 2RU Managers

The iQ Series cable zones can be used between bayed groups of racks, or attached to stand alone cabinets. Designed with lockable front and rear covers that integrate with top and bottom sections they are supplied with hardware for on-site application to the rack frame.
