Skokloster Castle Phone: 08-402 30 60 Open: May and Sept., Sat-Sun, 11am-4pm June-Aug. Daily 11am-5pm www.skoklostersslott.se

Skokloster Castle Skokloster is situated on a peninsula on Lake Mälaren in the beautiful landscape of Uppland. Carl Gustaf Wrangel had Skokloster Castle built during the Swedish Empire in the 1600’s. The castle’s collections make it unique and it is as internationally renowned as it is in Sweden. Guided tours among the 50,000 objects and a visit to the special exhibition will make your visit memorable. There was a convent located on the Skohalvön peninsula already by the middle ages. At the time, King Knut Långe lived here and the area became well known.

The convent church, preserved since the time of the nuns, is still bustling with activity and well worth a visit. At Skokloster there are lovely cafés and a restaurant and inn. The Skohalvön peninsula has a lot to offer. Meander through the cultural landscape, pass by the soldier tenant farm and school museum, go horseback riding, try clay pigeon shooting or visit pleasant camping grounds to go for a swim.

Biskops Arnö - The green island of Lake Mälaren Biskops Arnö has a beautiful, cultural landscape with forests, fields, meadows and pastures. During the spring the ground is covered with blue and white anemones. On the island are four hiking trails up to 5 km long. “Sinnenas Stig” or path of the senses is just one running 1.8 km long. The island’s long history dates back to the medieval period with buildings as proof. Built early on is a bishopric where the archbishops spent their summers. The herb garden on Biskops Arnö has been cultivated for 20 years and has a

large number of medicinal plants. The herb garden is open to the public every day during the summer. Enjoy the scents of the herbs, swim from secluded cliffs, grill hot dogs at Fästningsberget with a view of the bay or find your own favourite spot. Nordens Folkhögskola, a residential college, is also located here offering courses in photography, film and writing. During the summer STF runs a hostel and the café is open daily during June and July. Biskops Arnö Nordens Folkhögskola

Åbergs Museum Åbergs Museum featuring Lasse Åberg’s vast collection of comic and pop art, original drawings of comic strips as well as Disney objects has, rightly so, been getting a lot of recognition. There is plenty to see in the gallery. On display are original drawings by famous comic strip artists including Burne Hogarth, the artist behind Tarzan, and Hal Foster, the creator of Prince Valiant. Series originals hang together with comic inspired art from Picasso to Keith Haring. This is the only museum in the world where original comic art and

comic influenced art hang side by side. The museum also displays the world’s foremost collection of Disney items, dating mainly from 1928 to 1938. There are toys, porcelain objects, clocks, books, piggy banks, you name it... There is also a café that serves delicious food, coffee and homemade baked goods. The Tarzan Hut is a place for both small and big kids to have fun. Not all museums can say they have their own jungle.
