Following Equipment Transformers for low-voltage halogen lamps Electronic step-down converters for low-voltage halogen lamps With the help of temperature and service-life tests conducted during the construction phase, Vossloh-Schwabe’s electronic converters are developed to provide a high degree of reliability in all areas of application. The quality and reliability of the electronic converters are documented during the production process by burn-in tests and by subjecting all components to continuous in-circuit and function tests. Vossloh-Schwabe (certified according to ISO 9001), conducts heat measurements and voltage tests using its own, state-of-the-art testing facilities and maintains its own, VIDE-approved EMC laboratory. The design of VS electronic converters enables amp brightness to be regulated using conventional phase-cutting trailingedge dimmers. Some types of converter can also be dimmed using phase-cutting leading-edge dimmers or can be equipped with a separate potentiometer connection for regulating lamp brightness. Depending on the ambient temperature and the degree of stress, the operating frequency of VS converters can range between 30 and 60 kHz. Electromagnetic safety transformers When using electromagnetic transformers, care must be taken to ensure the permissible output range is not exceeded as this could otherwise reduce the lamp’s service life or lead to the transformer generating excess heat. Furthermore, electromagnetic transformers must feature current overload protection either in the form of primary-side fine-wire fuse whose value is given on the type plate or a transformer with a thermal cutout. To this end, VS transformers with fuse holders form a particularly convenient option.

following equipment

All electromagnetic transformers made by VS are classed as safety transformers according to EN 61558 and guarantee a high reliability. The outstanding quality of VS products is documented by the Company’s ISO 9001 certification.

Following Equipment Electronic ballasts for compact and tubular fluorescent lamps Single-ended compact fluorescent lamps (tc lamps) Compact fluorescent lamps deserve the claim “particularly economical and eco-friendly” because they require considerably less energy in luminous comparison to incandescent lamps while guaranteeing a substantially longer service life. Tubular fluorescent lamps (t lamps) Despite the ongoing development of new lamp types outsides the family of fluorescent lamps, the majority of artificial light produced nowadays still comes from fluorescent lamps. As T lamps are characterized by both high light output and a long service life they are predominantly used for industrial purposes and in offices. Electronic Ballasts The brightness of fluorescent lamps can be regulated with the help of dimmable electronic ballasts. Adjusting lamp wattage leads to a further reduction of energy consumption and of the associated costs. The corresponding ELXd units from VS enable conventional 1–10 V control units to be connected via a bipolar 1-10V dimmer interface. Interfaces were developed in accordance with EN 60929. Under the consideration of the maximum current of the respective control unit, it is also possible to operate several electronic ballasts in parallel.

Following Equipment Ballasts for high-pressure sodium lamps (HS), Metal Halide Lamps (HI) and Mercury Vapour Lamps (HM) Electronic Ballasts The critical behavior of high-pressure lamps during the starting and hot restart phases just as their sensitivity against main voltage fluctuations both influence light color and lamp service life. However, operating high-pressure lamps with electronic ballasts not only avoids these problems but increases lamp efficiency in comparison with magnetic ballasts. The electronic ballast evaluates lamp data during operation and adjusts the lamp current to suit. This guarantees operation in all operation phases. An electronic ballast will ensure a lamp safety turned off at the end of its service life, thereby preventing any risk in the event of the rare rectifying effect occurring with high-pressure lamps (HI and C-HI) featuring an outer bulb. With the help of temperature and service-life tests, VS electronic ballasts guarantee a high degree of reliability.

following equipment

Magnetic Ballasts The electrical specifications of VS’s range of ballasts comply with lamp-specific requirements. VS attaches great importance to ensuring the impedance value of electro-magnetic ballasts is kept with within particularly narrow tolerances. This advantage, which is achieved by individual adjustment of the air gap during the automated production and testing process of every ballast, decisively contributes to optimizing the light output, light color and service life of discharge lamps.
