Grading Policy There are no makeup quizzes, or tests! Please do not ask (unless one of these exceptions applies: doctors note, police report, towing slip, unexpected court date). All examinations are cumulative therefore it is important to keep reviewing the material. 10% will be deducted from any makeup quiz that meets approval. I will drop your lowest quiz score only (Not including midterm, the final examination or attendance) Letter Grades:

A=100%-94% B=93%-83% C=82%-75% D=74%-60% Reminder: A grade below “C” is considered failing in radiologic technology Grading Breakdown

Quizzes/Attendance = 20% of grade Written papers, oral presentations= 10% of grade Midterm Examination= 30% of grade Final Exam = 40% of grade

Attendance Attendance is mandatory—if you miss more hours than the class meets per week, you may be dropped from the class. If you stop attending class but do not drop the class, you may receive a failing grade. Three tardies or leaving from class early equals one absence. If you are absent or need to be absent for an emergency situation, you must talk with me to find out if you will be excused. It is your responsibility to make up any class work that you miss. If you stop attending class, it is your responsibility to officially drop the class through the college. If you have more than 4 absences, you will most likely fail the course.

Cell Phone Policy • • • •

Students may not use their cell phones to accept or make calls or text while in class If cell phones are brought to class, they must be turned to “silent” or vibration mode You may not “listen to music”, or anything else with earphones while taking tests (as this is grounds for dismissal from the class) Students who do not adhere to this policy will be asked to leave the class. If it happens a second time, the student will be referred to the Vice President of Student Services.

CLASSROOM CONDUCT (Page 189 LACC Catalog) Instructors are responsible for presenting appropriate material in courses, and students are responsible for learning this material. Although it is a student’s academic performance that is evaluated in determining grades, student conduct is important in the academic setting. Enrollment in a class may be terminated due to unsatisfactory student conduct, undue disrespect toward an instructor or administrator, or academic dishonesty. Each student is responsible for maintaining standards of academic performance established for each course in which he or she is enrolled.

4|P a g e

Violations of Academic Integrity include, but are not limited to, the following actions: cheating on an exam, plagiarism, working together on an assignment, paper or project when the instructor has specifically stated students should not do so, submitting the same term paper to more than one instructor, or allowing another individual to assume one's identity for the purpose of enhancing one's grade. The Policy on Academic Honesty, as described in the LACC College catalog, is strictly observed. Cheating and plagiarism are serious academic offenses. Any effort to copy another student's work during exams or to present another's work as your own will be considered cheating. It will result in a grade of F on the exam or assignment, and the student's name will be place on file with the LACC Executive Vice President, and the ARRT. Repeated offenses will result in my recommendation that a student be dropped from the course and become ineligible to participate in the Radiologic Technology Program.

Evaluation of Course You will be requested to complete a student evaluation of this course. I will notify you when it is available for you to complete. All evaluations are anonymous. They are used to improve the course and instruction. I encourage you to complete the evaluation when it is available.

Drop Deadline Statement The deadline to drop without a “W” is the last day of Week 2 (of the semester), which is September 11 for Fall 2016. If you must drop a course, drop before the specified deadline for dropping a class without a grade of "W." Dropping after Week 2 will result in a “W” on your transcript. Effective since July 1, 2012 students now have just 3 attempts to pass a class. If a student gets a "W" or grade of "D", "F", “I”, or "NP" in a class, that will count as an attempt. A student’s past record of course attempts district wide will also be considered. Therefore, before the end of Week 2 you should carefully consider if you can reasonably manage this course with the other factors in your life (e.g. work, family, course load, etc.). If you think you will not be able to complete this course with a C or better, drop the class. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to talk to me. You may also see a counselor in the Counseling Center in AD 108.

Student with Disabilities Any student who feels she/he may need an academic accommodation based on the impact of a disability should contact the Office of Special Services (OSS) at 323.953.4000, Ext. 2270 or visit their office in room SSV 100.

If you need help paying for books and other college expenses, call the Financial Aid Office at 323.953.4000, Ext. 2010, or see them at Student Services Village room 117 http://www.lacitycollege.edu/stusvcs/finaid/
