1. THE FACULTY

The faculty of Humanities is the point of contact between the tradition of the ancient faculty of Literature and Philosophy and the need for a deep change in humanistic studies. There is a need to be prepared to answer those questions that in the last decades contemporary society has started posing to the literary culture too. For the first time in Italy, this faculty is engaging in an ambitious and difficult renovation project in a context characterized by strong traditionalism. To do so, Sapienza University offers great opportunities in terms of quality, teaching staff and state of the art structures such as libraries, museums and technological instruments. Nowadays humanists are asked to answer the fundamental questions posed by all developed societies and human beings: the meaning and reason of our existence, the relation between past, present and future, job market and policy, and the role of feelings and emotions in contemporary life. The future of humanistic studies is, more than ever, associated to the capability of understanding the real meaning of the relation between disciplinary research and its function in the contemporary world. For many information about the faculty, you can visit the web site: www.scienzeumanistiche.uniroma1.it

FOREIGN STUDENTS SECRETARIAT

General Secretariat building (adjacent Via R. Elena) Stairs C, second floor. ℡ (+39) 0649912707/745 E-mail: [email protected] Fax: (+39) 06 4991 2984 Open time: Monday-Wednesday-Friday 8.30 - 12 am Tuesday-Thursday 2.30 – 4.30 pm

2.1 To access Sapienza degree courses The procedures to follow to access the degree courses (except for medical Specialisation Schools) are regulated by a circular issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) and by the University Ministry (MIUR). After their arrival in Italy, the students should go the foreign Qualifications Secretary to carry out the first administrative procedures and then they have to stand an Italian language exam and, if required, an entrance exam to access the degree course.

2.2 Enrollment conditions and procedures The enrollment conditions and procedures differ according to the type of course (Degree courses, Specialisation Schools, Master, PhD, single courses, etc…) depending on the candidate country of residence.

2.3 Students resident in extra EU countries They have to present an application to the diplomatic delegation of their own Country according to the deadlines annually fixed by the MAE circular. The applications delivered to the diplomatic delegations are sent to the University where they are examined and assessed. The result of the evaluation is communicated to the delegations that contact the students adhering to the requirements, and issues the visa due to study reasons. After their arrival in Italy, the students stand an Italian language exam and, if required, an entrance exam to access the degree course. The Foreign Student’s Secretary carries out the enrollment for the possible entrance exam: the candidates resident in extra EU countries do not pay the 26,00€ enrollment fee for the exam.

2.4 Foreign students regularly enrolled and living in Italy or in UE countries They follow the same procedures applied to the Italian students: they just have to require the convalidation of their qualification.
