Just outside the town walls, in the centre of one of Italy’s smallest viticultural zones, stands the Lungarotti winery that has matured over the year with the vineyards surrounding it. There are many wines produced, all certified, and each detail is attended to with meticulous attention. Visitors are invited to see the production and aeging process: the visit covers every aspect and phase of vinification, from machinery using the latest technology to impressive rooms full of casks and barriques. A long hallway leads to the “vault”: the historical archives are the Lungarotti company’s pride and joy, where old vintages of the great reserve wines lie resting. After the visit, a wine tasting is held just next door at the wine shop. ADVENTURE ROAD – VESPA TOUR

Cashmere Road

FIRST ITINERARY It is not by chance that the English, fond of the luxuriant wool, refer to the area around Trasimeno as the “Cashmere Valley”, and that they put shopping by the lake right next to the region's artworks, landscapes and cuisine on their list of reasons to visit Umbria. In 1985, the crumbling 13th century hilltop hamlet of Solomeo, in the province of Perugia, was saved from certain demise by one of the Kings of Italian Cashmere: Brunello Cucinelli. Cucinelli purchased the whole medieval ruin and began restoring it to its original splendor. A selfproclaimed philosopher-businessman, Cucinelli produces daringly bright shades of cashmere - a wool which, for centuries, had been associated, almost exclusively, with timid, neutral tones. Another highly-esteemed protagonist of Italy's "Cashmere made in Umbria" industry, Lamberto Losani has been creating artisan-made cashmere for women for over 50 years. The family business is based in the town of Magione, on a hill overlooking Lake Trasimeno. Among the most important cashmere producers in Umbria has to be outlined also Rocco Ragni Cashmere. Genesia Alessandra Tibidò and Gabriella Chiaraluce, respectively Rocco's grandmother and mother, created the little laboratory at the beginning of the 70s inside a charming Dominican monastery in Compresso, which later became their family home. Thanks to Rocco’s passion for fashion, he managed to launch his own brand in 2004, Rocco Ragni Cashmere. Rocco's production aims to recover and revive real artisan activity, which represents the essence of Made in Italy.

Cashmere Road

CASHMERE ROAD –

Cashmere Road

SECOND ITINERARY Few people know that, for over half a century Umbria has been an important reference point for the manufacturing of high quality cashmere knitwear. This is due to the wealth of experience and tradition that the rural civilization, dedicated to the processing of hemp and wool, and to breeding the silkworm, has handed down to a whole generation of entrepreneurs who were able to understand – just as Renzo Tasselli did at the end of the sixties – that those practices and techniques could be put at the service of a rare and precious material such as cashmere. This Umbrian brand draws its inspiration from the know-how and the aura of taste - truly ‘made in Italy’. Its daily interaction is a rebirth based on creative imagination and talent. The style department and the company itself forge combinations of different materials, of innovative grafts of waterproof Cashmere fabric and of polychrome prints on thin textile realized from the most refined blends. Cashmere means quality based on 600-years long mastery. It is soft, silky and velvety to the touch. Moreover it is insulating: warm in winter and cool in springtime. Cashmere is always appropriate whatever your style is. For this reason cashmere clothes are the right choice in the most important moments as in everyday life. A precious gift to make and to receive. Luxury Cashmere careful choice is to use light coloured yarns because they are stressful treatments free and they enhance the qualities of the fibres. Luxury Cashmere proposes clothing collections and accessories made by the skilled hands of its luxury knitters. Every model is designed to fit and suit to each client’s desire of smartness and high quality style.

Tour price: 80 Euros/person (from 2 to 4 people) 65 Euros/person (from 5 to 8 people) (Minimum 2 people – Maximum 8 people. The price is intended for a half day tour.

Transfer with driver who will show you 2 cashmere shops, special discounts from 10% to 30% on Luxury Cashmere collection and 30% discount on Tasselli’s collection – a wine tasting will be offered at the end of the tour).

Umbria is one of the smallest regions in Italy and entirely landlocked, but that does not limit the landscape. Umbria's countryside can be as breathtaking as its medieval towns, from the mountainous splendour of the Monti Sibillini national park (best reached from Norcia) to the softer countryside of the Valnerina and the beaches of Lake Trasimeno. Umbria is renowned for its rustic countryside and historic hill towns of pinkish grey stone. It echoes the Middle Ages with a profusion of medieval villages, castles, and monasteries. Today, the old towns are Umbria's masterpieces. In Perugia, the region's capital, and in the smaller centres of Gubbio, Montefalco, and Todi, you'll discover numerous Romanesque churches, civic palaces, and endless medieval nooks and crannies. Spoleto blends medieval monuments with Roman remains and some of Italy's oldest churches. In Orvieto, Etruscan remains abound, and one of Italy's finest Romanesque-Gothic cathedrals perches on a high plateau. Assisi is one of Umbria's most famous towns and heralded worldwide. The burial place of St. Francis, the Basilica di San Francesco, was begun in 1228. Also Spello and Montone are something not be missed during your trip in Umbria: two typical hill-top medieval hamlets that are both among the most beautiful villages listed in the Club of “Borghi più belli dell’Italia”.

Built on a huge scale, the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli is one the largest Christian churches. Its magnificence may be at odds with the simplicity preached by St Francis himself but the flocks of pilgrims coming to visit the primitive Porziuncola chapel and the Cappella del Transito called for a building that was able to accomodate the faithful. The Porziuncola chapel was given to St Francis by the Benedictines, and is important because it was the initial point from which the Franciscan order was born. Assisi is a small town in central Umbria about 20 minutes east of Perugia and approximately half-way between Rome and Florence. The town is a Unesco heritage site known for the magnificent medieval architecture and for being the birthplace of Saint Francis. Visited by more than 7 million people per year, the Basilica of Saint Francis is really something not to be missed! It's divided into an upper church, the Basilica Superiore , with a celebrated cycle of Giotto frescoes, and beneath, the lower older Basilica Inferiore, where you'll find frescoes by Cimabue, Pietro Lorenzetti and Simone Martini. Also, in the Cripta di San Francesco, lies St Francis' elaborate and monumental tomb. Near Assisi there is the Eremo delle Carceri (Carceri Hermitage), the place where St. Francis of Assisi and his followers retreated to pray and meditate. Located 791 metres above sea level on the slopes of Mount Subasio, the Carceri Hermitage is located near some natural caves frequented by hermits in the early Christian years in a beautiful forest of oak trees where pilgrims still retire in contemplation.

With its Etruscan walls and a gorgeous Medieval centre, Perugia is not only a city for chocolate lovers, but also for artists and art lovers alike. One of our guides will help you discover the most important Etruscan artefacts and monuments of the town. Ipogeo dei Volumni is an Etruscan sepulchre of the noble of Volumni, placed a few kilometres from Perugia, in Ponte San Giovanni. Ipogeo dei Volumni, dated 1840, is part of the most extended archaeological area known as “Palazzone” and it is one of the most significant monuments of the entire Etruria and consists of an atrium and seven rooms. Six cinerary Etruscan urns and a Roman one made in travertine are exposed in the last and most important room, the tablinum, and they contain the remains of the members of this noble family. The Etruscan Arch was built around the 3rd century B.C., and it was one of the seven entrance gates to Perugia in the Etruscan period. About two centuries after its construction, the inscription "Augusta Perusia" was carved onto it to celebrate the conquer of the city by the Emperor Augustus. The Etruscan well is a great work of hydraulic engineering and testifies to the technical knowledge and the civic degree that the Etruscan population had 300 years before Christ. The well is practical to visit thanks to some stairs which allow the visitor to reach its deepest point.

Ceramic Road

Deruta ceramics are a milestone in the history of Italian pottery and probably the most popular among traditional Italian ceramics. They gained worldwide fame during the Renaissance thanks to their creative and qualitative excellence. The production of pottery is still the main economic activity, with more than 200 laboratories and factories producing dinnerware and decorative pottery in a large variety of traditional designs - such as Raffaellesco, Ricco Deruta, Arabesco, Geometrics - and more modern patterns. The Grazia Museum is an historical museum which documents the origins and developments of the Grazia factory through samples of the production since 1800 and majolica fragments dating back to the 1500s. It is housed within the walls of the Grazia factory which is itself a working museum as production still takes place in the same building built in 1922 by Ubaldo Grazia and his associates. It is interesting to see the furnishings that have remained almost unaltered. Domiziani has been working at an international level since 1987, with almost 30 years experience in the interior and exterior design industry. The company offers a wide range of products such as indoor and outdoor tables, bases for tables, chairs, gazebos, coverings, tops for bathrooms, sinks, kitchen tops, flooring, stairs, mirrors, ceramics, pottery and many other items.
