EXPLORING ART WEBQUEST AND ART HISTORY ASSIGNMENT THE HUMAN FIGURE IN ART

This assignment will be graded twice. One grade will be given for the Webquest component. The second grade will be given for the Art History component. DUE DATE:

____________________________

Artists from different cultures and time periods throughout history have depicted the human figure in diverse ways. What materials did they use? Why did some artists paint realistically while others preferred abstraction? What was Michelangelo thinking when he carved David? What materials did Rodin use to sculpt The Thinker? Are the two artists related or connected in any way? In this Webquest, you will research 2 different artists of your choice and observe how they depicted the human figure in their artwork. In doing so, you will discover the answers to these questions about the artists you choose to investigate.

YOUR ASSIGNMENT Your assignment is to research 2 different pieces of art, each by a different artist, that deal with the human figure and provide me with a reproduction of each artwork. You must also write at least 2 paragraphs about each piece (a minimum of 4 paragraphs total). Include answers to the above questions as they pertain to your chosen artists and works as well as anything else you discover. You must also create 2 questions (similar to the questions found above) and answer the questions you have created within your paragraphs. You must include complete URLs (links) to all of your sources. See other sheet on the back of the rubric for a list artists you may choose from.

An image for each artwork is included at the beginning of your paper The name and artist for each artwork is included in your title and at the beginning of your paper Your writing tells me what YOU observe about each work, reflects YOUR thoughts and not what art critics and historians say about the work, I want to know what YOU think and see when you compare and contrast the two works.
