Day 1:

Travelling

Travelling overnight from London Heathrow to Nairobi on flight KQ101, departs at 19:00 and arriving at 06:30.

Day 2-5:

Siwandu, Selous Game Reserve

Notes This morning you will land into Dar, clear immigration, collect your luggage and make your way through to the Arrivals Hall. There you will be met and escorted to the check-in area for your Coastal Aviation flight down to the Siwandu Airstrip in the Selous Game Reserve. From the airstrip you will be taken on the short game drive transfer through the park to Siwandu Camp where you will be spending the next 3 nights. After lunch and some time to relax you will meet with your ranger and fellow guests for afternoon tea before heading out on a game drive to explore the beautiful and game rich Selous Game Reserve. In addition to your morning and afternoon game drives, you will be able to enjoy guided walks and boat cruises on the Rufiji River during your stay at Siwandu.

The remote and little-visited Selous Game Reserve covers more than 5% of Tanzania’s total area and is the largest of its kind in Africa. At an unbelievable 55,000 sq km it is almost twice the size of Belgium and four times larger than the famous Serengeti in the North. The landscape here has remained almost as it was before tourism began and the massive park has only a few accommodation options. The Great Rufiji River and its tributaries are the lifeblood of the reserve, creating a network of forests and woodlands around the lagoons, sandbanks and lakes with tall palm trees adding to the scenic splendour. Because of its size and remoteness, the reserve has over 2,100 species of plants, 350 species of birds, 60,000 elephant, 108,000 buffalos and an estimated 1,300 of the worlds’ roughly 4,000 remaining rare wild dogs, giving guests an opportunity to glimpse all of these exotic animals in true unspoilt wilderness. Boating, walking safaris and fly camping are all available in the Selous.

Overnight: Siwandu

Sheltered in a grove of palms on the shores of Lake Nzerakera, part of the watery byways of the Rufiji River system, Siwandu is perfectly situated within the prime game area to fully experience the abundant wildlife of Selous Game Reserve. Explore the breathtaking landscape by foot on our morning game walks, by 4WD vehicles with our expert driver guides and on the water with boat cruises on both the river and on the lake.

Page |5 Broadly spaced along the lakeshore, Siwandu’s superbly appointed accommodation ensures maximum privacy and every opportunity to soak up the sights and sounds of the purest African bush. The spacious octagonal tents allows guests to observe animals as they saunter past while reclining on the majestic king sized bed under the overhead fan or from the open-air stargazer showers which adjoin the ensuite bathrooms. With a total of thirteen tents, Siwandu is evenly divided into two camps, to create the perfect safari ambience and also allows guests to exclusively book Siwandu Private Camp.

Day 5-8:

Jongomero, Ruaha National Park

Notes After your morning activity you will enjoy breakfast in the lodge before being transferred back to the Siwandu Airstrip for the Coastal Aviation flight to the Ruaha Game Reserve. You will be met at the Jongomero Airstrip and transferred through the reserve to Jongomero Camp where you will be spending the next 3 nights. Again you will be able to enjoy lunch and some time at leisure to relax before starting your game viewing activities in Ruaha. As with Siwandu, you will be able to enjoy both game drives and guided walks (over 16s only) on routes that were developed by the guides from Jomgomero so you get a truly unique experience. There is also the possibility to enjoy overnight "fly camping" in the reserve which is an amazing way to get close to the bush and enjoy this beautiful, unspoilt reserve.

Page |6 Following its recent expansion, Ruaha is currently East Africa’s biggest national park and the second-largest on the African continent. It is also Tanzania’s most sizeable elephant haven and home to a profusion of bird species, including kingfishers, plovers, egrets, hornbills and sunbirds. Crocodiles and hippos thrive in the Great Ruaha River, which flows along the sanctuary’s eastern border and in the dry season between July and November, animals flock to the last remaining water sources, presenting an exceptional wildlife spectacle. There are a number of accommodation options available but some close for the wet season in March and April.

Overnight: Jongomero

Under the magnificent shade trees, on the banks of a seasonal river in the remote southern sector of the Ruaha National Park, Jongomero is gloriously isolated. Far from the madding crowds, this secluded idyll offers a chance to discover true unadulterated wilderness. On a sweeping river meander lies the camp bar, lounge and restaurant; an open wooden terrace shaded by a high thatched roof and filled with sumptuous sofas and striking furniture made of reclaimed dhow wood. After game experiences by vehicle and on foot laze around the elevated pool and enjoy the sights and sounds of being so close to nature. Accommodation at Jongomero comprises eight well-appointed tented suites with spacious private veranda and ensuite bathroom. Snuggle under warming quilts in an eight-foot wide dhow wood emperor bed and fall asleep to the hum of Africa beyond the canvas.

Day 8-13: Ras Kutani, Ras Kutani Notes After your morning activity and breakfast at the lodge you will be transferred back to the airstrip for the Coastal Aviation flight back to Dar. There you will be met and transferred by road (about 90 minutes) down to Ras Kutani where you will be spending the next 5 nights. Here you will be able to relax after what will have been a busy safari circuit and enjoy the peace and tranquility of this lovely property. If you are feeling active then you can enjoy snorkeling, kayaking, boogie boarding and walks along the beach as well as walks in the forest behind the camp. If you are travelling at the correct time of year there may also be the chance to see the Sea Turtle Nests which are found on Ras Kutani Beach hatching which is an amazing way to round off a memorable trip.

Ras Kutani rests between the deserted shores of the Indian Ocean and the quiet inlets of a freshwater lagoon, creating an idyllic barefoot hideaway.
