European Congress and Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems 2013, 2014, 2016 or 2017 Call for Interest from Gothenburg, Sweden
Expression of interest to host the European Congress and Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems in 2013 or subsequent announced years, in Gothenburg, Sweden
Dear Members of the ERTICO ITS – Europe Supervisory Board, Together with associated organisations1) the Lindholmen Science Park hereby expresses its strong interest in hosting future European Congress and Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems. Feasible dates are 26-28 June 2013, 6-8 May 2014, 7-9 June 2016 or 13-15 June 2017. Sweden and Gothenburg has a long tradition of safety thinking for cars, trucks and roads. This has resulted in a number of forefront road safety technologies, and has helped the Swedish motor vehicle industry to achieve world-leading status. The Gothenburg region will, during the coming years, go through an impressive development process. This includes a highly interesting infrastructure development of road-, railway- and seaway development. The city has also right now initiated a very big re-urbanisationproject for the central parts of the city on both sides of the river. Both these projects will lead to a number of very interesting developments in the field of ITS where we at the time of the conference we are showing interest for will have a number of different show-cases and demonstrators ready for test and trials. During the ITS World Congress 2009 in Stockholm Lindholmen managed test and demonstration facilities both in- and outdoor. We introduced a world leading new concept that we have named the demo-theatre. This is a new format of how to present complex systems and research results through collaborations with artists and actors. Actual dramatized scenes were produced and run during the congress. Besides the ITS World Congress Lindholmen, and our partner network, has experiences from big events. Some examples are: EU high level meeting Oct 2009, Truck & Bus 2008 and 2010 and a yearly fair in Logistics & Transport. Parallel to the strong national and local research in the ITS field, the size of the meeting is most favourable for the city. The meeting will enjoy high visibility and have a strong impact in Gothenburg not only because of its compact city centre but also thanks to the extensive experience and long tradition in hosting meetings and major events. The international fair and many attractions make Gothenburg a buzzing city. It is also a comparably affordable place for large meetings. Lindholmen Science Park is the most dynamic development area in Gothenburg. It is a part of the north riverbank in Göteborg, where a new city district is being built up in the old harbour areas. Lindholmen Science Park has brought together key players within intelligent vehicles and transport systems, mobile internet and modern media and design. Collaboration partners to the Park are AB Volvo and Volvo Car Corporation, Saab AB, TeliaSonera AB, Telenor Sverige AB, Ericsson AB and Scania AB and the the Swedish Road Administration. All have overlapping interests regarding the advanced use of information and communication technology. The University of Gothenburg, Chalmers University of Technology and their joint IT University are also partners to the Science Park. Some of the larger companies located in the park include; Volvo Cars, Volvo Technology, Ericsson, IBM, Semcon, Dassault Systemes, Volvo IT and the Swedish public service broadcaster, SVT. The aim is to create increased innovation, international competitiveness and growth for the entire area. Lindholmen Science Park is also coordinating a number of projects to create national and international interesting common technical infrastructure. For the time-span of the conferences we will be able to
show-case a world leading driver simulator and a European resource for test and research of active safety systems. Gothenburg is situated on the west-coast of Sweden, easily accessible with more than 65 non-stop connections from around 55 European destinations. The two international airports are only 20 minutes by shuttle bus from the meeting venue and the city centre. A characteristic feature of Gothenburg is the compact city area where everything is within walking distance. The city centred main convention centre, The Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre, is a modern all-under-one-roof congress facility with a total capacity of 9,000 delegates. The in-house Hotel Gothia Towers can today offer 704 hotel rooms, making it the largest hotel in Scandinavia. Another 6,000 rooms, ranging from budget/student style to five-star, are available within convenient walking distance of the meeting venue as well as restaurants, shops, museums, architectural and seaside beauties. The beautiful archipelago comprises more than 50,000 islands. In the time of the year that we suggest arranging the meeting, is an optimal time period with its Nordic light and short nights. The Swedish authorities, the City and Region of Gothenburg, the related industry, research and academic side are supporting this at the very highest level, nationally and locally. At this stage we are pleased to submit written support from the following organisations: ITS Sweden Automotive Sweden and Business Region Göteborg University of Gothenburg Chalmers University of Technology SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden The City of Gothenburg The Swedish Exhibition & Congress Centre We sincerely hope that you, the Members of the ERTICO ITS, look positively on this expression of interest and will consider Gothenburg as host city for its European Congress in ITS in the year of 2013 or one of the subsequent announced years.

Gothenburg 10 March 2010
European Congress and Exhibition on Intelligent Transport Systems & Services, in Göteborg, Sweden 2013 or 2014
Dear members of the ERTICO ITS – Europe Supervisory Board Representing the organisation Automotive Sweden, it is with great pleasure I would like to submit our support for Lindholmen Science Park and collaborating partners to host the European Congress on the European Congress on ITS in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden. The automotive industry is one of the most important branches in western Sweden. More than 60 000 people work within the industry. Three out of four automobile manufacturers are located in western Sweden — AB Volvo, Volvo Car Corporation and Saab — which provides a strong power of attraction of knowledge, research and development. Several “Centers of Excellence" within the automotive industry are located in western Sweden such as SAFER, which focuses on the field of safety, and the Swedish Hybrid Vehicle Center where various actors from industry, academics and the public sector partake side by side. Automotive Sweden provides an overall glimpse of the automotive branch in western Sweden — from within the public sector, industry and academics. Automotive Sweden is a non-profit, governmental organisation owned by the regional authorities in western Sweden. We would be happy to see Gothenburg as host for the European Congress on ITS. Göteborg has a proven tradition of hosting congresses and events. We are sure that European Congress on ITS will be an important addition to the long list of international gatherings in our city and we would like to express that Automotive Sweden will fully support the local contacts in organising this event. I sincerely hope you will agree the city of Gothenburg is an ideal venue for the congress. Yours faithfully
